The baseball season is over Carl, so your sports picks may turn  into "slim pickings"

1333 – The River Arno flooding causing massive damage in Florence as recorded by the Florentine chronicler Giovanni Villani.

Of the thousands of  major river flooding events on this planet since humans have recorded them, I wondered why this one was a big deal?

Well, apparently this location(in Italy) has a unique, greatly valued artistic and cultural heritage that resulted in unusually high losses when extreme flooding hit.

In reading about all the flood events and history of this area in the article below,  I noted that this flood was exceeded by an even greater one in 1966(during global cooling), on November 4th. Sure enough, on tomorrow's "this day in history", we have that flood listed.

Yeah....... I know it's not as exciting as reading about the latest saga on "the adventures of Donald Trump" and how people (over) reacted but at least it's something new (-:

1960 – The land that would become the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge was established by an Act of Congress after a year-long legal battle that pitted local residents against Port Authority of New York and New Jersey officials wishing to turn the Great Swamp into a major regional airport for jet aircraft.

In New Jersey ? I thought it was located in Washington, DC.

Great pickings from football and Basketball, Mike. However, don't expect any posts about the world's most popular and boring sport.
