1972 – Eastern Air Lines Flight 401 (a Lockheed L-1011 TriStar) crashes in the Florida Everglades on approach to Miami International Airport, Florida, killing 101 of the 176 people on board.

This one is personal. The crash was due to a burned out indicator light, which was being investigated by both the pilot and co-pilot below the cockpit deck. The plane was on auto-pilot, but while getting up, one of them must have bumped the wheel, knocking it off of auto.

Just a few months before we were thrilled when the Tristar did a fly-over our Burbank plant on it's maiden flight from Palmdale.

The Ghost of Flight 401

In this chiller based on true events, a jetliner crashes in the Florida Everglades, killing more than 100 passengers along with the flight officer, Dom Cimoli (Ernest Borgnine). When engineers use pieces of the damaged plane to repair other jetliners, crew members and passengers experience haunting visions of the dead flight officer. While Cimoli's ghost seems terrifying at first, each crew eventually realizes that the spirit is warning them of impending disasters.

Thanks Carl. Mac was doing much better late Saturday, so we are back to hoping for an early week discharge.
