2013A meteor explodes over Russia, injuring 1,500 people as a shock wave blows out windows and rocks buildings. This happens unexpectedly only hours before the expected closest ever approach of the larger and unrelated asteroid 2012 DA14.

367943 Duende, provisional designation 2012 DA14, is a micro-asteroid and a near-Earth object of the Aten and Atira group, approximately 30 meters (98 ft) in diameter. It was discovered by astronomers of the Astronomical Observatory of Mallorca at its robotic La Sagra Observatory in 2012, and named for the duende, a goblin-like creature from Iberian and Filipino mythology and folklore.

It passed 27,743 kilometers (17,239 mi) above Earth's surface, closer than satellites in geosynchronous orbit.

And it still took another 40 years for women to get the right to vote.

The fact that this didn't happen until 100 years ago is one of the most mind boggling, discriminatory/unjust facts of human history.
