Reading articles about the New Zealand shooting and subsequent gun control measures.
Ran across this statement by a representative of a gun advocacy group regarding the banning of military style semiautomatic weapons:
"This will not be popular among some of our members but ... we believe this is the only practicable solution”
Can you imagine anyone, left or right saying that in this country ? I don’t know what “practicable” is though. I’m off to look it up.
Well what do you know, learned something today. Am I the last to know about this word ?
you asked ". Am I the last to know about this word ?"
No. I was the last
My son, a part time reviewer of technical journals said: “maybe not the absolute last, but far from the first.”
They do have substantially different meanings.
Kudos to the NZ fellow for knowing how to use it.
"you asked ". Am I the last to know about this word ?"
No. I was the last"
You're not the last anymore Gunter (-:
We had a teacher that continually used the word “irregardless”. Just couldn’t convince him it wasn’t a word.
Anyway, back to the statement. Can you imagine anyone here saying such a thing ?
As in, I’m going to catch hell for this but it’s the right thing to do ?

No one here but
Someone promised he was going to stop illegal immigration and he is catching h377 for his efforts
I'm last now. So cool to learn a new word.
