16. Now in order to kill the enemy, our men must be roused to anger; that there may be advantage from defeating the enemy, they must have their rewards.
Iran was ,is trying to use this against us

2. Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy’s resistance without fighting.
I believe this is the President Trumps current stratagem. An attack would violate this

5. The general, unable to control his irritation, will launch his men to the assault like swarming ants, with the result that one-third of his men are slain while the
town still remains untaken. Such are the disastrous effects of a siege.

Iran may be trying to bait the US into acting the way rhey often have.

Which is us deciding to teach them a lesson for using violence against our equipment by displaying a superior violent act that does even more violence and also kills a bunch of human beings.

This almost never works. The side that you are teaching a lesson to, feels greatly harmed by your over reaction and even more justified with their position that you are treating them unfairly and they hate you even more and they use your/our attack on them as evidence to act exactly  in the opposite direction of what bombing them is intended to do.

That's why we remain at war on so many fronts.

If you justify military action,  you use military action until the target can no longer respond. Occasional surgical strikes  never solve anything.

But you need damn good justification for bombing your target into submission.  And we haven't had that since WWII, IMO.
