Our students did a magnificent job competing at the chess tournament today!

Here are some pictures of a few of them from 3 of our 5 schools. We had less than 20 playing today but in March, at the tournament that we host at North Junior High, here in Evansville IN,  we usually have over 80 from our schools and 200, from 30 area schools in grades K-12!

In between those tournaments, we will be competing in 4 different Scholastic Chess of Indiana events, including up to 20 that qualify for and play in the State Championships!

Terrific to have these young people competing in the "Sport for the Brain"  against real people sitting across the board from them (vs an electronic screen) learning good sportsmanship and other character building skills while challenging themselves and exercising their brains........... as they slowly develop into wonderful adults.

Dad was always a decent chess player but what makes him an elite chess player now, is that he's lived to 94 and maintained enough cerebral functioning and chess playing skills so that he's outlived most of the players that were better than him a couple of decades ago (-:

10 Big Brain Benefits of Playing Chess

https://www.onlinecollegecourses.com/2012/03/25/10-big-brain-benefits-of-playing-chess/

Not for nothing is chess known as “the game of kings.” No doubt the rulers of empires and kingdoms saw in the game fitting practice for the strategizing and forecasting they themselves were required to do when dealing with other monarchs and challengers. As we learn more about the brain, some are beginning to push for chess to be reintroduced as a tool in the public’s  education. With benefits like these, they have a strong case.
