U.S. export inspections were pretty light for #corn, OK for #wheat, and good for #soybeans (compared w/ expectations). Some 551kt of the beans were headed to #China.

U.S. export sales were pretty good last week (thru the 16th, day after trade deal was signed). #China bought 225,882 t of #soybeans. Best week for #corn in a month, 3rd best week for #wheat so far in 19/20. Best week for #soymeal in several years.

#China has bought 11.6 mmt of U.S. #soybeans for 2019/20 through Jan. 16, which aside from last year, is the fewest for the date since 2007/08. China made some big promises, but 9 days after the deal, still no sign of huge purchases. Black line needs to go up, up, up!

In fairness, this chart reflects to Jan. 16, and the deal was signed Jan. 15. However, no daily sales yet, which are required to be reported when the sale exceeds 100,000 t. And 100,000 t is pretty pitiful compared with the massive volumes #China is expected to buy.

And I have made this stance clear in several of my columns, but a very large chunk of this boost in #China's purchases HAS to come from #soybeans, IMO. That is based on historical maxes and reasonable yearly increases in other commodities.
