Global warming slowing but regional variances?

Hello Mike,

I was just reading your thread about global warming slowing down due to plant processes in an increased CO2 level atmosphere.

This got me thinking however in relation to my recent thread on California rain predictions for this year.

I can recall when I was in grade school there were some bittery cold winters (I want to say late 90's/early 2000's). So much so that the 4ft above ground pool that my parents had in their backyard would regularly develop a thin layer of ice on top (perhaps around 1/8in, maybe a little thicker).

What little water was running through the drainage creek behind their property would also freeze solid and my brother and I would regularly 'harvest' this ice for fun.

I haven't experienced a cold winter like that her in California in many years so I'm wondering how regional variation plays into all of this.
