Peeling eggs

Trying to peel a soft boiled egg that is runny is extremely challenging. The white sticks to the shell.

The more you cook the egg, the easier it is to peel and also to separate the white from the yellow.

Sometimes, even  hard boiled eggs are very hard to peel/separate from their shells.

If you run a small amount of water from the tap on your hard boiled egg while peeling it, the water gets under the shell and allows you to separate it easier but don't do that with runny eggs or it will wreck them.

Hard boiled eggs are easier to peel but then, every once in a while, you'll get a few of them or the entire dozen that are tough to peel and it seems like the whites are stuck to the shell and almost impossible to separate the whites from the shell?

35 years ago, a farmers wife that worked with my wife told her that the fresh ones are always very tough to peel.  I just looked it up and she is right, it has to do with the PH of the eggs. I've experienced some that were not that fresh that were hard to peel but that appears to be the exception.

If you lived on a farm and gathered as many eggs as I have plus peeled for a family of 6 you would have learned that trick from your mother "knee high to a grass hopper"

I don't know what we have to do to educate you city types lol

Another trick is storing veggies in a hole in the ground with straw over the opening

Gotta make them spuds last all winter, and hope the varmits don't find your hiddy hole

An old hiddy hole comes in handy some times, or a hole with wood cover outside the house foundation so you don't get lost in a snow storm

Or a rope between house and barn so you can get back to the house. You would be surprised how easy it is to lose your direction in a white out, if the yard is swept clean with fresh snow/wind, and snow drifts where there wasn't one yesterday

Did you know potato sprouts and the plant itself is poisonous

And go to the bath room. Don't ever tell mom, after 4 layers of clothes you need to go to the bathroom. You won't be going outside that day. You will learn

I walked 2 miles to school every day. Uphill coming and going lol
