In televised remarks Thursday afternoon, Whitmer said she "knew this job would be hard, but I'll be honest, I never could've imagined anything like this." She specifically blamed President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly declined to condemn far-right groups.
"Just last week, the President of the United States stood before the American people and refused to condemn white supremacists and hate groups like these two Michigan militia groups," she said. "'Stand back and stand by,' he told them. 'Stand back and stand by.' Hate groups heard the President's words not as a rebuke, but as a rallying cry, as a call to action. When our leaders speak, their words matter. They carry weight."
In response, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Whitmer is "sowing division."
"President Trump has continually condemned white supremacists and all forms of hate," McEnany said in a statement to CNN. "Governor Whitmer is sowing division by making these outlandish allegations. America stands united against hate and in support of our federal law enforcement who stopped this plot."
metmike: The governor of Michigan(I'm here right now in Detroit) hates Donald Trumps guts. Based on many of her statements, it appears as if she hates Republicans too.
What happened here was horrible and very wrong but had been planned for several months by this group that had been having a big problem with Whitmer, who constantly antagonizes Michigan conservatives instead of trying to be uniting.
Trump had nothing to do with this. Sad that she blames him.
Nothing new......Trump being blamed.
Trump was blamed for the shootings in El Paso and Dayton.
Trump was blamed for the climate fires and climate hurricanes.
We were told that Trump made up the southern border crisis, then when it was confirmed that he was right, we were told that he caused it.
Trump is blamed for almost all the coronavirus deaths...........despite states, using the Constitution making their own laws and guidelines.
"LIBERATE MICHIGAN!!!"
- Donald Trump. (his caps not mine)
I wonder why liberals automatically assume a phrase like "Liberate Michigan" is a call to violence? We live in a country based on the principal of non-violent transfer of power called elections.
I suppose, looking at what's going on in liberal towns across the country will tell you all you need to know about how deeply libs value violence, so it's understandable they'd project that belief onto everyone else.
Of course, violence is not their only tool. They use impeachment as a campaign tactic and now Pelosi wants to expand it to a legislative tool while using it to obstruct the process of judicial appointments. A process that previously excluded the house taking their metaconstitutional mischief to a whole new level.
And now, with an election right around the corner, she wants to invoke the 25th amendment. And by all measure, the libs have the upper hand in the upcoming election. Does she know something we don't, or is this just insurance?
Yeah, libs sure look at things differently from normal people. What amazes me is that we seem to have a growing number of the electorate who can watch these filthy tactics and, in gap mouthed drooling approval, say "Yeah, this is the way it should be done".
Soon, I'll get arrested for posts like this.
Good one to illustrate my point joj!
Everything that Trump does or says, like this gets twisted like a pretzel to have a secret meaning which waits around for interpretation until after a bad thing happens.
Here's another of numerous examples:
https://abcnews.go.com/US/trumps-language-mexican-immigrants-scrutiny-wake-el-paso/story?id=64768566
"The president has denied responsibility for inciting violence in American communities in the past, despite an ABC News investigation in November 2018 finding multiple criminal cases involving mostly white men where Trump's name or rhetoric was invoked in direct connection with violent acts, threats of violence or allegations of assault."
metmike: What these biased journalists completely miss, ironically is that it's THEIR interpretation and constantly broadcast false narratives of Trump being a racist and in support of violence to hurt people from THEIR twisted interpretations that define messages that these people get.
If Trump says "LIBERATE MICHIGAN" for instance, it doesn't really have anything to do with following the Constitution or first amendment rights of citizens in MI, which is a conservative battle cry........ it really means "kidnap the governor" but only Trump and the kidnappers knew it at the time..........until this happened.
Now we know, thanks to..........not Trump confirming this nefarious act was a good thing and that he supports it (because the reality is that he condemns it) but from the MSM shouting from the rooftops that this is exactly what Trump supports......and they blast their false narrative message that Trump supports racists and white supremacists(when he doesn't) and racists/white supremacists get THEIR message, not his.
These evil people are getting the MSM and dem message that the left wants to pin on Trump, not Trump's actual message.
Some state governments are criminalizing and censoring lawful speech under the guise of protecting public health.
Ronald J. Krotoszynski, Jr.John S. Stone Chair at the University of Alabama School of Law
Like I said, he didn't advertise any nefarious intentions, it was the MSM and dems that do that..............and that's the message they want people to get about Trump to smear him and it works but part of the effectiveness is it sends messages to groups like this that Trump never gave.
Then, when an event happens, the MSM reinforces it by saying "see, this is what we told you!"
And they are exactly right. This is what THEY told us, not Trump.
I'm in Detroit right now.
Here's how our extremely liberal local paper (that REALLY hates Trump and always for this liberal governor) decided to cover this story.
"During a Thursday afternoon news conference, Whitmer who has frequently clashed with Trump, mentioned the president's comments at the first presidential debate on Sept. 29 when Trump told the Proud Boys group to "stand back and stand by."
metmike: This group had been planning for months. If that was supposed to be a secret message to them, then they disobeyed Trump because he said "stand back" not "act now". When and where has Trump ever told a group like this to act?
About WI, afterwards, he clearly stated that he wanted law enforcement to handle violent protesters not vigilantes but the MSM twisted his words after that one too.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"The Republican president has repeatedly tweeted positive remarks about protests against Whitmer's COVID-19 restrictions. Some of the individuals charged in the plot Thursday have attended the demonstrations.
In April, Trump tweeted, "LIBERATE MICHIGAN!"
In May, he added that Whitmer should "give a little" and "put out the fire" after hundreds of protesters rallied at Michigan's Capitol."
metmike: Clearly trying to blame President Trump. In this anti Trump world, you can't be for people to stand up for their first amendment rights without also, being responsible for any and all bad things that people do with that position.
Sort of how things are with the cops right now.
We have a very tiny % that are racists and abuse the position...........so let's create a false narrative with that to support our cause that uses cops...... vilifying all of them.
There are bad people from all walks of life and professions. Stop using their political position to try to poison the entire party they support or the vast majority of good ones in their profession.
