I used to think the job of the gov't was to protect it's citizens

Now I believe the job of the gov't is to protect itself

In the early stages of society, government started as Oooog stayed up nights to gaurd the flock and crops.

Then,  some form of order was required when Oooog accused Merrrrrg of taking one of his sheep without paying.

Then came the time when the Taagalogs tried to claim the land that Oooog and the Mercalots had been tending.

It's evolved over the years,  but the above scenarios are the only ones where government has ever proven effective and arguably, the only time it's needed.

Seems these days, as government takes on more and more functions, the above are evolving out.
