30% of U.S. winter #wheat is in good or excellent shape, well below the analyst expectation of 40% and last year's 53%. Some 36% of the wheat is in poor or very poor condition. This is USDA's first national assessment of winter wheat conditions since late November.

U.S. winter #wheat in 30% good/excellent condition is 22 points below the 5yr avg for the date. The last time ratings were lower for the date = never. Similar scores were observed in the same weeks in 1989, 2002 & 2018. Below trend yields in all 3 years.

All eyes will be watching the Plains/Midwest for potential drought busting rains.........or drought amplification  before the growing season with old crop supplies of all the grains critical and dire need for a HUGE new crop in the US.

Nothing big the next week where we need precip the most!

The first crop rating could be the worst ever for the HRW crop!

When it comes to U.S. winter #wheat:Most of the poorest yielding crops had lower early April ratings - not all of them though (1995, 2007)Crops in poor shape in April were not necessarily that way in NovemberThe fall/spring ratings for the 2022 crop are among the lowest

It's about that time - U.S. spring planting will soon be in full swing. This farmer in western Iowa is making preparations on Wednesday. Haven't seen much activity though.

Winds gusting to 60 mph in the S.Plains drought areas today.

This was expected. Wheat price may be down today ahead of the USDA report on Friday.

Temperatures and precip have NOT been favorable for early planting in many areas. Much too wet in the ECB.

Weather still BULLISH for HRW and corn prices.

Too dry for HRW, too cold for early corn planting, too wet in the ECB.

Wet and cold early, often leads to less corn and more bean acres........bearish for soybean prices.

Extended weather.
