This is probably a shocker to most older Americans. As a scientist, I actually find this extremely fascinating..........the reason for the thread/post.  Obviously, it's MOSTLY from being able to be open about their sexuality compared to when old people like me were young but 21% is 10 times higher than my generation. I question the accuracy of that high number in truly representing all Americans of that age group. If it is accurate, then even the scientists/medical experts who specialize in studying this for a living,  are extremely underestimating the numbers. Regardless, let's learn more about it since it jumped out at me.

I actually studied this at length around 15 years ago and understand the solid science that indicates natural biological factors, completely outside the realm of experiences growing up as the main cause but am still very surprised that the % is this high. There still is tremendous uncertainty to explain specifically what causes this biologically.

Minireview: Hormones and Human Sexual Orientation

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3138231/

Most people are sexually attracted to individuals of the opposite sex; they are heterosexual. There is, however, a significant minority (3–10% according to many estimates) of men and women who are exclusively attracted to individuals of their own sex; they are homosexual.

metmike: The 21% who claim to be gay in this recent survey is over double the 3-10% number found from this very credible scientific source. This doesn't jive with the Gallop Poll.

How psychology has helped society accept homosexuality

Attitude change and acceptance have been facilitated through psychological science.

metmike: With regards to genetics. If this were a trait passed on by genetics, one would think that it would have disappeared over time or become LESS common because homosexuality  does not result in reproduction.

The article below gives us some stark statistics.

https://www.cdc.gov/msmhealth/stigma-and-discrimination.htm

Gay and bisexual youth and other sexual minorities are more likely to be rejected by their families. This increases the possibility of them becoming homeless. Around 40% of homeless youth are LGBT. A study published in 2009 compared gay, lesbian, and bisexual young adults who experienced strong rejection from their families with their peers who had more supportive families. The researchers found that those who experienced stronger rejection were about:

  • 8 times more likely to have tried to commit suicide
  • 6 times more likely to report high levels of depression
  • 3 times more likely to use illegal drugs
  • 3 times more likely to have risky sex

Again, with 21% of our youngest generation identifying as gay (even if the number is greatly inflated) and this predisposing them to the risks/behavior noted on the last page, we can see that this is one of the contributing groups that have resulted in the stratospheric levels(and increasing) of deaths from drug overdose and suicide in the United States.

Many here, may find this thread hard to relate to.

Maybe you don't have any gay friends or know somebody that committed suicide or died from a drug overdose.

Which is why it's such a golden opportunity to understand a huge part of the world...humanity........ that many (especially older) people don't  understand and thus, it makes it impossible for them to feel compassion.

Just repeating........21% of the youngest generation identified as gay in this recent study. That would be a heck of a lot of people to not understand!

We love our freedoms in the great USA and most of us take them for granted because we've  lived here our entire lives.

This below is a shocker and travesty too:

The ‘Global Closet’ is Huge—Vast Majority of World’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Population Hide Orientation, YSPH Study Finds

https://medicine.yale.edu/news-article/the-global-closet-is-hugevast-majority-of-worlds-lesbian-gay-bisexual-population-hide-orientation-ysph-study-finds/

The study found that concealment is highest in certain African and Middle Eastern countries and lowest in Western Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand. Distinct differences, however, were found even within specific regions as a function of varying social and political factors. In Eastern Europe, for example, the study found that four-fifths of sexual minorities reported concealing their sexual orientation, while in nearby Northern and Western Europe, only about one-third reported doing so.

Same-sex marriage is currently legal in 28 countries, while 43 provide protections against hate crimes based on sexual orientation. Same-sex sexual activity is criminalized in 72 countries, including eight countries where it is punishable by death, the authors said.

I have absolutely no problem with anyone identifying as being within LGBTQ. I've had gay relatives and good friends, for example. And possibly some others who I wasn't aware of. But despite my full support of the LGBTQ community, including the "T" portion, I agree with transgender Caitlyn Jenner that it is common sense that transgender women shouldn't be allowed to compete with cisgender women due to the unfair advantage resulting from larger average frame sizes. Hormone therapy and surgery do not eliminate the larger bone size of transgender women. Feeling this way doesn't at all mean I'm "anti-T" though some left wingers think that thinking this way makes them not just anti-T but also anti-LGBTQ! That's so ridiculous!

I've even seen some left wingers calling Jenner a bigot because of this. Well, just as they say only women should have a say about their own bodies in regards to abortion, then why shouldn't Jenner, who is transgender, have more of a say about trans women competing with cisgender women than non-trans left wingers??

NPR had the author of a fascinating book on Monday evening:

When Brooklyn Was Queer: A History    Hardcover – March 5, 2019                By            Hugh Ryan

https://www.amazon.com/When-Brooklyn-Was-Queer-History/dp/1250169917

It was interesting to hear about how gay people going back over 150 years ago had their secret group meeting places.

Interesting, until towards the end, when the interviewer asking the questions decided to interject her political bull dung into it.

Asking rhetorical questions and stating that the author must be very fearful about how the Supreme Court, after they set back womens rights half a century on the abortion issue are immediately going to target the gay community to undo much of the progress that they've experienced, as well as reversing civil rights laws that currently protect minorities.

As mentioned last week, my biggest challenge when listening to somebody lying to scare people because of their abortion  agenda is to not hate them.

Why Won’t the Left Talk About Racial Disparities in Abortion?

Scholarly studies show that black women are far likelier to terminate their pregnancies than whites.

THE EFFECTS OF ABORTION
ON THE BLACK COMMUNITY

https://www.congress.gov/115/meeting/house/106562/witnesses/HHRG-115-JU10-Wstate-ParkerS-20171101-SD001.pdf

The Abortion ConsumerDis-proportionally, the leading consumer of the abortionists’ services is the African-Americanfemale. According to the 2011 Abortion Surveillance Report issued by the Center for DiseaseControl, black women make up 14 percent of the childbearing population, yet obtained 36.2percent of reported abortions. Black women have the highest abortion ratio in the country, with474 abortions per 1,000 live births. Percentages at these levels illustrate that more than 19 millionblack babies have been aborted since 1973.ivAccording to the Departments of Public Health of every state that reports abortion by ethnicity;black women disproportionately lead in the numbers. For example, in Mississippi, 79 percent ofabortions are obtained by black women; in Washington, D.C., more than 60 percent; in Georgia,59.4 percent; in Alabama, 58.4 percent. In state after state, similar numbers are found, with blackwomen aborting at two, three or more times their presence in the population. At every incomelevel, black women have higher abortion rates than Whites or Hispanics, except for women below
the poverty line, where Hispanic women have slightly higher rates than black women.v
The prevalence of abortion facilitieswithin minority communities serves as a
major contributor to the rate in whichblack women obtain abortions.
Accordingly, black women are 5 timesmore likely to have an abortion than whitewomen. A recent study released byProtection.

metmike: Ironically, they claim to have a position that is for women's rights but in reality, they are FOR taking the right to live away from millions of minority babies.

In addition, we can assume that some 20% of those killed babies would have been GAY. So they are discriminating against blacks and gays.

If we took a survey and asked 1,000 people, who's mother was going to get an abortion but changed her mind and didn't kill them, are they glad to have their life or would they prefer to have been killed i the womb.......... what do you think the answer would be?

Also, children that are adopted. Would they rather have been aborted instead of given up for adoption?
