Congratulations on living during the best time of human history in one of the best places on the planet!

Cherish your opportunities and don't waste time being disrespectful, mean or judgmental of other human  beings that you disagree with.

It's also my parents 67th wedding anniversary.

Dad is still going strong, headed for 97 years old in September.

Independence Day (colloquially the Fourth of July) is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence, which was ratified by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America.

The Founding Father delegates of the Second Continental Congress declared that the Thirteen Colonies were no longer subject (and subordinate) to the monarch of Britain, King George III, and were now united, free, and independent states.[1] The Congress voted to approve independence by passing the Lee Resolution on July 2 and adopted the Declaration of Independence two days later, on July 4.[1]

Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts,[2] baseball games, family reunions, political speeches, and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. Independence Day is the national day of the United States.[3][4][5]

Despite the wonderful messages on the above posts, there's no denying the Grand Canyon sized divide in our country which is growing wider and deeper every day.

The internet, social media, professional media, politicians and other sources intentionally create political bubbles/echo chambers that tell people what they want to hear about their politics.

People go to just those sites to get the news exactly the way they want to read/hear it.

Republicans read/hear that they are always right about everything and democrats are always wrong about everything.

Democrats read/hear that they are always right about everything and republicans are always wrong about everything.

Most people believe in manufactured realities created by their political party message and gatekeepers targeting them to control their actions/money/votes.

Almost 70% of Republicans still think that Donald Trump won the election in 2020 and will never change that view.

At least half the people think that the current climate optimum for most life on this greening planet is a climate crisis and the fix for it, is the extremely ANTI environmental solar and wind that would cost over 400 trillion to replace fossil fuels with this crappy energy.

Those are stark realities of the real world that must be acknowledged if one is to really see/understand what's going on and not be fooled into believing everything is great.

Neither of those things above show signs of changing and there are a dozen other issues that actually could be resolved...........except that too many on both sides are at an extreme and very few will concede anything.

As I watched all the various shows about the 4th on TV last nite, including one of the best on what the slaves did and did not do during the war I was especially struck by what the ever loveable CNN did. Why sure, they wanted to celebrate our great country, our founders wisdom and sacrifice and our very freedom by showing just what? Well a replay of a Watergate special. I suppose someone here could make a case on how such a strange selection was made but I am at a loss. Judging CNN by its past behaviors I can only assume it was an attempt to embarrass or shame America and esp the repubs. But all it amounted to was shame for CNN. But hell ,they have grown quite used to shame, that's all they have on a near nightly basis.

mcfarm,

Maybe you're not aware that this time frame is the 50th anniversary of the Watergate break-ins.

Thanks for bringing it up!

It's not just CNN doing the reporting.

so you are saying all these Watergate special were on prime time on the nite all the 4th celebrations?  I have no clue but do not believe that for a moment. As I said I was flipping channels all nite and never saw another Watergate special at prime time and still believe CNN had motives for shaming them selves again. But if you will please post all the Watergate specials on last nite during prime time I will read more about it.

mcfarm,

TV networks have hundreds of different things that they can broadcast and, very often there are 10 times more than they can broadcast on a particular day, so they have to manage a schedule.

Much of it has to do with timing. In this case, it's likely that they could have been booked with other programming on the exact anniversary of the Watergate breakins and unlike other media sources that use online communication, that can prepare stories ahead of time and put out 3 times as many stories on certain days, for CNN or other networks, there are only 24 hours each day and they can't make 72 hours in a day with 3 times as much stuff.

It's possible that they waited until this weekend because they wanted it to be this weekend but so what?

Everybody else was doing it earlier and somehow, you think that July 3rd is a sacred day/night?

Maybe they realized everybody else was showing the same stuff and decided to do it on July 3rd for that reason.

Regardless, this is a pretty silly conversation.

and yet you and Tim had a long conversation about something similar and you then accused Fox of "censorship"...wow that's odd. Can someone {MM} copy and paste his response here to the on he gave Tim about censorship when Fox did not cover the hearings live.

What's special about the eve of the 4th? Never said it was special but all the networks seemed to think it was and all the galas and stars and special appearances seemed to be on the eve of the 4th which was when...well the evening of the 3rd. Not my problem did not schedule it and did not know it until I flipped TV channels for a long while. If you think this is silly then so be it but do not belittle me with you weak and pathetic defense of CNN. They have long lost any credibility and should not be defended with "there are only so many hours in a day".

If they were concerned with "scheduling" I would think even CNN would of noticed every body was in on the 4th celebrations and imagine they got smoked in the ratings big time. What's new about that? So I guess I will just use your argument and declare CNN was censoring the 4th celebrations.
