BIDEN'S BEEN WORKIN' THAT SINCE GRINER GOT CAUGHT BREAKIN' THE LAW!
I SAY: "KEEP THE LYING ADDICT IN RUSSIA!"
9 years in prison for possession of weed that is hurting no one? You think that is justice 12345?
Where are the Libertarians?
You would make a great judge............in Russia (-:
This is a tragedy and obviously a product of the horrible US/Russia relations. She's just a political pawn.
Griner's biggest crime was ignorance for bringing the stuff with her.
She was busted with MARIJUANA vape oil
Brittney Griner situation explained: Griner gets moved to penal colony in Mordovia
The seven-time All-Star was detained in Russia on Feb. 17 for allegedly carrying a marijuana concentrate in her luggage

Griner confirmed she has a doctor’s prescription for medical cannabis, Blagovolina said, which she uses to treat knee pain and joint inflammation.

For those that don't understand medicinal THC and CBD, here's an education for you. I have an autoimmune disorder and severe osteoarthritis that features systemic inflammation and much of my cartilage eroded.
Since Michigan legalized marijuanna 2 years ago, they have a dozen+ dispensaries in the Detroit area:

I stopped using weed when I was a teenager because alcohol was a better buzz for me. Today, I use a THC,/CBD balm, not for the buzz but for the pain/inflammation. It works. Here's the product that I use. It's a balm that cost $80 and lasts, maybe 2 months. Expensive but people in pain will pay a high price for something that helps.

I shopped around(with numerous phone calls and on the internet) before finding this one that has the most THC and CBD of any on the market. When I'm in Detroit, I stock up on it from a dispensary on Michigan Ave in Inkster.
I don't know this lady but her story rings very true and with a doctors prescription(so she can travel with it) she has a legit reason to have it in the US. Very dumb to take it to Russia but she is no drug smuggler, as she was convicted for being.
She is a horrible victim here and clearly this is one of the most extreme cases (in the lime light) of a person being abused because of politics between countries in a country not giving a rats ars about human rights.
MM, doubt if there are many larger sports guys here than me. I am growing tired of the new athletes of today though. They are a spoiled rotten group who have the attitude of doing what ever they want whenever they want. Grinner is a well traveled very well compensated athlete who has been all over the world. She knows what is what when crossing international boarders and has many people in her circles as aids. She knew what was expected and how some foreign countries treat those who defy them. Not saying what her punishment should be but let not be naïve about her and the igorance of her actions.
mcfarm,
I agree with your opinion (as do many people) about many extremely overpaid, worshiped pro athletes today that let money and fame go to their head's and ego's.
Instead of using their enormous influence to help others and make the world a better place, they waste it on selfishness and themselves, while setting a bad example for people, especially kids that look up to them.
With that being the case, you and other sports fans should love the stories/links below.
When people are making big bucks and are idolized by millions of people all around the world it will always result in prima donnas, and this is particularly true in the sporting world.

mcfarm,
I could tell you more about baseball than anyone in the 1960's/1970's but I'll bet you know much more than me about today's players and also in other sports too. Some of the articles above are a decade+ old. I'll bet you know almost all the athletes on the list(I don't know all of them).
The last article and the one below are from 2011 but I was surprised that they named the Tigers, Miguel Cabrera in the #4 spot for Prima Donnas. Miggy has always been extremely loved by Tigers fans. He's listed because of his issues with alcohol. If you want to use alcohol to define being a Prima Donna, then Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth would be on the list. This thread IS about the drug, marijuanna and how its apparently, going to destroy the life of a professional athlete. Only in a way that is different than any others in the past.

Now back to Griner and her marijuana use, which I think is a completely different situation than any other professional athlete in the past with their drug and alcohol problems(this was for pain with a medical doctor's prescription) and unrelated to being a prima donna.

She's had at least a couple of incidents(that we know of) involving violence on her part that resulted in penalties. One on the basketball court and one with her wife, so she's obviously not a perfect person.
Her life style, is used to judge her by some people. It's a free country, unlike Russia and everybody has a right to their opinion in the United States.
