Meet our TD, Craig Hines. Retired middle school science teacher with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corportation.
Craig was inducted into the Indiana State Chess Association's Hall of Fame in 2022!
Only 8 other individuals in Indiana chess history have been given that prestigious award.
https://indianachess.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=169378&module_id=90489
You might wonder...........what's a TD?
Here's an explanation from the US Chess Federation for USCF rated events, like many of the ones that Craig has been doing for years.
Our tournament above is NOT USCF rated and especially encourages beginners. Well over half the students playing will be at their first tournament.
Meet my Dad, who still plays skillful chess(barely) at age 98. I give him my queen to start and we have some great battles.
He doesn't have any great chess world achievements to his credit..........except that he taught his son(me) to play chess in 1966 because he wanted to share a fun game with the son that he loves......... and look what happened.
Never underestimate your seemingly limited power to have a positive impact on other individuals that blossoms into something much greater because that person passes it on and amplifies it in their encounters with new people!

The last link with my Dad's story came from world renowned, Susan Polgar's site!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Polgar
Susan Polgar (born April 19, 1969, as Polgár Zsuzsanna and often known as Zsuzsa Polgár) is a Hungarian-American chess grandmaster. Polgár was Women's World Chess Champion from 1996 to 1999. On FIDE's Elo rating system list of July 1984, at the age of 15, she became the top-ranked female chess player in the world. In 1991, she became the third woman to be awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE. She won eleven medals at the Women's Chess Olympiad (4 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze).
Also a trainer, writer and promoter, Polgar sponsors various chess tournaments for young players and is the head of the Susan Polgar Institute for Chess Excellence (SPICE) at Webster University. She served as the Chairperson or co-chair of the FIDE Commission for Women's Chess from 2008 until late 2018

Mike, Please post the results of your chess tournament.
Thanks cutworm!
It's was a huge success once again!
I'll pass on the entire results when I get the chance!
We had 4 teams in the Scholastic Chess of Indiana Team Championships yesterday, in Hammond, IN(just outside of Chicago) 1 in each of the 4 divisions.
McCutchanville's 3rd and under and 6th and under.
North Junior High's 8th and under.
North High School's 12th and under.
They all did a great job. Our families from all the teams sat together and made it a wonderful social event.
This was the high school team:
I'll pass on additional pictures when they come in:
I always go to Detroit for the week after the tournament to stay with my Dad while the kids have Spring Break.
I got him a special early Father's Day present related to chess this year and I'll share images of him with his present when I get back.
Dad is 98 years old and taught me to play chess when I was 10, in 1966. Him and I will play 2 chess games every day this week.
