Great animal videos from this source too:
Thanks, cutworm. I’ll watch that shortly.
I don’t want to wake my wife up by watching a video in bed.
Oddly, the speaker referred to making his bed in military school.
one way to help create personal contentment is to intentionally do things that make yourself proud of yourself.
Resist doing things that you know are wrong but more than that, try to be disciplined in spending at least some time each day…..maybe just a few minutes….. doing something that at the end of the day when you go to bed or in the middle of the night, when you wake up and can’t sleep, you can think about which makes you proud enough of yourself to offset enough of the negativity of the world That it gives your life meaning!
Its best when others appreciate us and we feel that but we can’t always rely on that and we can get too obsessed with doing things to get approval or recognition.
We are the masters of our personal domain. It takes time and discipline to apply that and convince ourselves that using small positives that continually add up is the main recipe to success and happiness.
Very few people win a lottery with a sudden windfall that pays robust happiness dividends.
you have to focus on little things to make yourself proud of yourself. try to use this to define who you areor move incrementally in the right direction, towards Who you want to be or what makes you proud of yourself.
Those are words that make it sound easy and as if it’s just a choice that everybody can make.
Cognitive bias and a life of conditioned, well entrenched behaviors and thought processes make it extremely challenging to make changes.
But we live at the best time in history to exploit the wonderful technologies at our fingertips to use to enrich our lives if we just use them wisely.
Sorry it took so long to watch the video, cutworm but it was definitely worth remembering to get to it this evening!
This was one of the best videos that I've listened to EVER!
Post of the week!

One of my favorite parts of the speech was when he spoke about what would happen if each graduate changed the lives of just 10 people..........and those 10 people changed the lives of 10 people, how that would multiply.
I teach that same mentality when it comes to us interacting with other human beings……sometimes in basic every day encounters:
https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/99752/#100240
A few people are in a position to change many millions of lives in a positive way, like MLK for instance.
People in the media can touch hundreds of thousands of lives or even more sometimes. Politicians even more than that. (sadly, many to most are motivated by forces which see people as objects to manipulate for their self serving interests).
A religious faith leader can touch thousands of lives, almost always with benefits.
Teachers do typically touch many hundreds of lives.......a school teacher for instance. Almost always positive.
However, most people have jobs/lives that don't give them that opportunity and may not be cut out to be a life changer.
So they have to seek out opportunities to help make the world a better place.
Share their gifts, even if its just with their families or coworkers or when they interact with strangers.
Sadly, there are plenty of people making the world a worse place too. This means the ones striving to make the world a BETTER place must be more effective than those that only care about exploiting people to get things they selfishly desire.
Considering the increasing, extraordinarily divisive political environment and increase in hatred in our country, those of us aspiring to make the world a better place are losing the battle.
But the speaker also made other profound points.
NEVER GIVE UP was one of them.
He didn't say this but I do.
No matter where you are in life. Near the top, near the bottom or in the middle somewhere. What you do today determines if things get better, worse or stay the same tomorrow and afterwards.
We can lose everything with 1 tragically bad decision but it usually takes years of hard work to achieve the successes that matter.
Tenacity and discipline and never giving up after failures that knock us down.........temporarily.
Celebrating the incremental successes are part of the recipe for sustained growth!
After we've raised a family and retired, our lives change drastically. In many cases, we struggle to hold on to what we have, physically and mentally.
I like to say my objective in the gym isn't to improve my strength and conditioning. ……It's to get weaker and less conditioned at the slowest pace possible with age.
If an older person can be anywhere close to todays physical health and functionality in 5+ years, its a rip roaring success!
Man, was it ever fun lifting weights as a young adult. Seems like every work out, I was stronger. Blessed with tremendous strength and an overabundance of physical energy/drive.
With extremely high intensity work outs, I benched 345 lbs, while weighing 170 lbs.
I loved lifting weights and body building with the rewards in the mirror and from admiration of others.
But I extremely over trained and have an autoimmune disease that wore out all the cartilage in my joints as well as having damaged tendons/connective tissues as well as having Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.
I have 2 orthopedic surgeons that will replace my right shoulder and both knees when I give them the green light. I've lost over 3 inches of height from degenerative disc disease To go with the severe osteoarthritis.
However, I found some wonderful supplements and several prescription meds that are helping to keep what little cartilage is left and lubricate my joints and reduce inflammation. Suppress the immune disorder.
But going to the gym now, is so, so, so hard compared to before. But it must be done. I have a portable steam sauna/tent at home. I have to use it at least once a week. It must be done. No excuses.
NOT doing this, with 100% certainty will result in my physical and mental condition deteriorating.
Not doing this will shorten my life by X number of years with near certainty. The toughest part is making myself start each session. Once started........it's really not so bad.
I say this mostly for others to think about this reality and apply it to their lives.
You can slow down the inevitable deterioration of your body with strength training and conditioning by doing whatever activity that suits you.
If you keep postponing it, you can't reverse lost time in some areas.
And its the law of diminishing returns which should be viewed in a positive way.
Doing it just 1 time a month will have more benefits per session than 2 times/month. Which will have more benefits/session than 4 times/month.
4 times/month will ADD up to more benefits overall, let's call that 100%.
Just 1 time a month may have 33% of those benefits NOT just 1/4th or 25%.
2 times might be 60%, not 50%.
3 times might be 82% not 75%. I hope that makes sense.
What was the last point about?
To tell you that just 1 time a month is better than 0 times a month. It’s NOT a waste of time. And if you are ever able to generate the motivation to do it more than that…….it always starts with the first time.
Even if it ends after that first time (hopefully not) that time counted for something.
Even if you don’t do exercise until 3 months later…..it still counted for something. The point is DO SOMETHING!
Heres one of those somethings that almost everybody in every situation can do …..anywhere and with very little motivation required.
Stretching.
The main factor is just making yourself do it.
Lots of benefits no negatives. Even 5 minutes counts for something and is better than 0 minutes.

Like the speaker stated. You can never give up, especially knowing that you are fighting a losing battle. As we age, everybody's body deteriorates. You can never win because the fountain of youth doesn't exist. We will all deteriorate and eventually die.
But you MUST fight the aging process with disciplined tenacity! Or else you lose your health quicker and die sooner.
Doing something. Anything at all towards that losing battle against your aging body, always counts for something.
Knowing that we did something and that it counted towards a positive outcome is also the recipe for being proud of ourselves. And it contributes to good mental health. It helps fight depression.
Even if we cant maintain a constant effort and especially if we can’t make an impressive effort …..please, just do something.
The isolated something’s all count and they can start adding up to be the slow growing, building block/foundation to support increasing positivity in our lives.
And if it doesn’t lead to that?
We’ve lost nothing and it still counted towards something good when we did it!
Another thought For us older people.
We usually judge our current physical condition based on a comparison to what it used to be. Of course we do. That’s natural because it’s all we’ve experienced personally In our lives.
Instead of that, try to appreciate that same principle…..projected forward.
The something’s that we can do today will always be greater than the something’s we can do several years down the road.
At 68, I can’t do most of what I could at 28.
A body at 28 doesn’t even need much special attention to be healthy but if you do work hard at that age, you experience tremendous rewarding growth.
However, at 68, a rapidly deteriorating body can do more than it can do at 78.
Take advantage now of that to slow down the rapid deterioration or there won’t be a 78.
At 28 doing exercise is easy and benefits are immediate. Not doing it doesn’t seem to cause immediate harm.
At 68 it’s extraordinarily difficult. Benefits are mainly to slow down the aging process. Not doing it means you age faster, feel worse and die sooner.
If you procrastinate doing something, as an older person……you will likely have squandered an opportunity.
Not only because Father Time is closing the window of opportunity rapidly but especially because your capabilities to use and to capitalize on opportunities is rapidly diminishing with age.
It seems futile to work hard at something which only yields 50% or 25% of what you could do 40 years ago.
However, it’s 200% of what you will be able to do in X amount of years.
So compare what you can do today to the future because that’s where you’re going hopefully. The future, not the past, which is over forever and ever…..except for your memories of it.
