George Washington

In 1797 George Washington did something amazing.  After serving 2 terms he chose to give up power.

1/3 of his supporters wanted him to be their king.

1/3 of his supporters wanted him to be president for life.

For the next 224 years, every president followed his lead.

And then came Trump.  He attempted what properly should be called a coup.

If justice were served he would already be in jail (like many of his followers already are).

Contrast that with Joe Biden.  Although his cognitive decline is self-evident, he did the hardest thing for a politician to do.  He threw in the towel.  Whatever you think of his policies, he put the country over his personal desires.

It is also worth noting that Biden is not the leader of a cult. When Democrats saw the writing was on the wall they abandoned their leader.   Admittedly, late in the game, but not too late.  Nothing, absolutely NOTHING would make the cult abandon Trump.

And speaking of cult behavior,  everything that comes out of Speaker Johnson's mouth and everything that comes out of JD Vance's mouth is just the dictates of Trump.  It is not "Republicans" saying Biden should step down.  It is Trump.

When a bipartisan group of Senators crafted a conservative border/immigration bill it wasn't Johnson saying it was dead on arrival (without reading it).  It was Trump.  More evidence that Trump cares more about power than the welfare of the country.

Do you want to know what JD Vance REALLY thinks of Trump?  He described him in 2016 as an "idiot" and as "America's Hitler."  https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/vance-trump-hitler-quote/

Trump is dangerous. Not because he is an unhinged liar, a rapist, and a criminal.  He is dangerous because he doesn't respect the peaceful transfer of power.

George Washington is rolling over in his grave.

That bill allowed far to much illegal immigration, before any restraint was enforced. It was a bill to say "hay look at this", but it would not have solved the problem. Things like this are nothing short of political grand standing, and would have done nothing more than what Biden could already do.

FDR was reelected. He did not refuse to leave after losing.

That bill bolstered officers available for security.  It gave 80-90% of what the Republicans wanted under Trump.  It had to satisfy the conservatives in the Senate.  They had all the political leverage.
