Amongst many other illegal activities committed by Hunter (with Joe, the "The Big Guy" being THE KEY TO THEIR BRIBING SCHEMES) was him violating the laws related to him being a foreign lobbyist but not registered as such.
If you remember, Hunter was a lobbyist in Washington for a decade before Joe became the point guy for corruption in Ukraine.
Instead of fixing the corruption, the Biden's saw an opportunity to exploit it to enrich the Biden family.
The smartest guy that Joe knows got appointed to a corrupt high position/board member with a corrupt natural gas firm in Ukraine.......with no energy experience or connections to this industry..........based purely on his dad being the corrupt VP of the United States with extreme power to control foreign aid and power in Ukraine.
While there, Hunter used his dad's influence for years (yes, Joe was in on numerous calls and meetings). In fact, without Joe participating in their influence peddling schemes, they couldn't have bribed a penny out of the corrupt people there.

Hunter is convicted of a nothing crime, while all his real crimes go UNprosecuted because those crimes were the result of "The Big Guys" involvement.
