Our numbers will be way down this year because we started sign ups with less than 2 weeks to go before the tournament.

Regardless of  whatever the number is this year,  many students will enjoy playing in this tournament again in 2025. A tournament with origins of almost 4 decades ago.

Here's the story on that:

Our scholastic chess tournament could not have gone better!!!!

Incredible, that 2 weeks ago I thought we would have to cancel it and we ended up with 154 students, from preschool to 12th grade competing today.

More to come including results and hopefully pictures.

We had tons of people playing key roles to help make our tournament so successful again.

1. Coach Logan, who stepped in to replace my partner to run the computer generated pairings and results with lightning fast speed and efficiency.

https://www.coachloganchess.com/

2. Dozens of parents from the 5 schools that I coach at, who helped set up, tear down, run the tournament and run our concession stand that made $400(one of our best years). Also, there were numerous donations of  food, baked goods and snacks.

3. North Junior High and the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation that allowed us to use this wonderful facility, as well as delivering the tables and chairs that we needed.

4. My wife Debbie, who took all the entry fees with her Venmo and Pay Pal accounts.

5. The parents(families) of the students that participated. Paying for and supporting them by giving up their Saturday to be at their chess tournament.

6. Our 5 schools, the many other schools, including home school and their chess coaches/families that provide chess programs and opportunities during the year for these students to participate in scholastic chess.
