Hands off protesting

I've been insisting this would happen for 2 months, once the weather warmed up and we've already begun ramping up the protesting.

The MSM and Ds will do everything in their power to take advantage of/exploit this and amplify it......Trump has given them massive ammunition to work with.

After the damage from Trump's deranged tariffs (worst presidential decision in my life time)  starts kicking in, people's outrage, along with agitators will likely turn some of the protests into riots. Hopefully I'm wrong about that part.

However, there is a near 100% chance that the RESIST or HANDS OFF movement will gain more and more momentum this year!

You ain't seen nothin yet!!!!

Just wait until the weather warms up. This has the potential to be  similar to the rioting that happened during the George Floyd protesting in the Summer of 2020.

The same people are just as, if not MORE upset right now. Why would we expect them to act differently this time, since they were not held accountable last time??

It will be interesting to see how Trump attempts to stifle the protesting/rioting.

This could actually set off an even stronger reaction as they reject his efforts to suppress them!!!

Why would anybody tracking the dynamics and direction using authentic facts,  expect differently???

Cold Civil War?

We're already in it! Now we wait for the new battles and escalation during the next 4 years!

+++++++++++++++

What will be Trumps response to this?

NOT listening to the protestors! Defiance! Defending the worst decision/actions by a president in my life time.

What will be MAGA's response to this?

Complete denial and instead, glorifying and defending their leader, no matter what he says and does.

We welcome all views here and respect everybody's right to express their opinion, especially if it's different than the moderators view!

Just a reminder to new readers here. I voted for the office of president in November last year for 1 reason.

Because Donald Trump promised to end the war in Ukraine.

I am very pleased with his personal efforts to bring peace....... that are being sabotaged by NATO and Russia.  He might fail but he's the only powerful person trying to get peace for the Ukrainians. Ukrainians want peace NOT NATO.

NATO wants Ukraine not peace. Russia wants to keep NATO out of Ukraine, not peace.

I’m loving these and the numerous other protests going on since Trump’s term started. I don’t recall ever seeing anything even close to this much peaceful protesting in our country. It is fantastic to see this much pushback. And it seems there’s a lot of protesting just about every day!

I don’t like the Tesla vandalism at all. There’s no excuse to break the law and besides that it gives MAGA political ammunition and it raises insurance claims that can lead to premium increases for everyone.

Some libs at another BB support it because they compare it to Rosa Parks breaking the law by sitting in the front of the bus and leading to reforms. But although that’s also breaking the law, I argued that the difference is that it’s breaking an immoral and unfair law that she was trying to get reversed. Vandalism isn’t an immoral or unfair law, and the vandals are not trying to get rid of laws against vandalism.

I think that people have a right to protest in a democracy  in order to express themselves and make everybody aware of an injustice IN MANY CASES.

However, it’s sad that good causes and good, people are often used by others to create tremendous chaos and disruptions that turn good protesting into rioting.

Professional agitators know how to inject additonal rage into mobs of discontented people. How to cause a rapidly cascading positive feedback from emotionally charged people feeding off of each other

The media will encourage the emotional rage which is bottled up and ready to explode in the perfect storm at some protests.

The Ds see it as golden opportunity to fight back against President Trump. This would be good if they didn’t use inflammatory language in many cases.

As a result of knowing these realities and what they will likely mean as this rebellion movement matures, I have mixed feelings.

!Many to most of these people have TDS and flat out hate  Donald Trump. Hatred is the most destructive human emotion of all, especially to the hater.

The mentality of protests that feature a message of hate is quite a bit different than a protest from people that are promoting love and messages of empathy or better treatment of a group of people being discriminated against.

I read and listen to the  extreme, hateful, negative messages from  key messengers of the RESIST OR HANDS OFF movement. It makes me appreciate the potential for this to  intentionally feed excessive Rage into people that already hate Donald Trump.

It’s the recipe for turning protests into riots. For inspiring acts of violence to express the rage and hatred.

I wish it were not true and didn’t mean what is likely coming up.
Another item that will add fuel to the fire is that protestors are Expressing themselves  to be seen and heard because they want to make a difference for their cause.

Trump is more likely to push back and potentially use Trumpian language that threatens them and further enrages them instead of hearing their message.

This can lead to a rapid escalation in the most negative elements. Neither side is listening to each other and it becomes a fierce battle from 2 sides that intensely hate each other and want to win at any cost.

Thats the most likely outcome later this year and beyond unless something  powerful disrupts the current dynamics.

An assassination for instance.

This would be tragic but let’s be honest. There  is an unusually high probability for this to happen, compared to any other president because of the current environment.

After the rioting gets out of control, or President Trump is assassinated, the main messengers of hatred that intentionally escalated the movement for their political agenda or for ratings will not be held accountable for, their  key role.

The upset folks cannot be quiet. They need to keep up the protesting to help with pushback from opposition. The opportunity to do this is what helps make our form of government a great one. There are a lot of unhappy folks for very good reason. Trump treats his political opponents as enemies, which has always disgusted me. So far it has been almost all legal peaceful protesting though with it based on intense anger, which I share and thus fully understand. Yesterday’s massive level of protesting probably got extra fuel from the two day stock market plunge that Trump fully caused.

Vandalism? That is a new term for fire bombing Teslas, spewing dangerous chemicals into neighborhoods, test driving vehicles and wrecking them purposely. Wonder what word would have been used had Trump pulled this?

Hey mc, We’re both against the Tesla vandalism or whatever you want to call it. Preaching to the choir. That’s beside the point.

Larry,

I agree strongly with the democratic principle that gives us the right to protest peacefully.

That takes priority

I wish that this was Utopia but we should all be prepared for what will be coming next.

Projecting that is based  on comparing objective observations of the past with the current situation and using critical thinking to predict what's coming next this time.

Many of the same players with the same mindset and same outside forces provoking them. Different reason this time and if anything, more powerful one to maximize the rage because of the pre existing, intense hatred for Donald Trump.

In the Summer of 2020, much of the rioting was because of a hatred of cops...........a general term.

In 2025+ the hatred and target will be focused on 1 man, Donald J. Trump.

The thing that will make it especially confrontational is that the other side worships President Trump. There couldn't be 2 more diametrically opposed polar opposites with extreme emotions.

After what Trump has done recently, I totally sympathize, 100% with these protesters. They have a right to express themselves. This last tariff decision by Trump is the most egregious violation of a president's responsibility(he should be using wisdom and good judgment with advice from objective, smart people) that will result in catastrophic damage (if carried out).

After this loony decision, I feel like going out there myself and joining the protesters!!!

But seriously, I would feel out of place there. I've already heard the extreme positions and intense hatred for Donald Trump from too many people. I respect their right to feel that way but  I don't want to be part of the hate.

Protest and speak out on MarketForum? Heck yes, but the intense hate part is what will take us into rioting and beyond.

And let's not ignore that President Trump is the easiest to hate President in history because he preaches hate, intolerance, divisiveness and closed mindedness. He's only getting paid back in the same emotional currency that embodies him.

Again, I personally don't want to be part of the hate, regardless of whether it can be justified or not because NOBODY can make you hate them. If a person shot my wife in the head, then it would be near impossible not to hate them. That's NOT what we are talking about here.

This is political hate generated by tens of millions of people and their message gatekeepers that will give each other positive feedback.

wow, the spinal cords of Americans sure have changed. FDR and company put this country thru nearly a decade the great depression and never heard of millions protesting and in fact he was elected 4 times. Once when he was nearly in Biden shape and his wife ran many of his duties in a Biden like cover up. Trump takes office and out of the blue come millions of protestors you say. Number 1 that number is wildly exaggerated and number 2 Trump has not had but a couple months. How does this happen? Ordinary people pretesting my ass, you know as well as most Americans, there is big time, big lib money behind these fake protests. Paid organizers, fake signs and big media right there in the center  pitching cow manure.

thanks, mcfarm,

Comparing Trump to FDR??

FDR made smart decisions during a very bad time to make things better.

President Trump just made the most idiotic decision by a president in history and turned a good time into a bad time single handedly because he clearly doesn't understand howthe global economics and currency systems work.

MAGA is convinced that the rest of us are just  not smart enough to understand his brilliant plan and we need to just give it time because President Trump is omnipotent and always right.

The real problem is that it’s MAGA that doesn’t understand his plan and has the faith of a religion in him because it’s Donald Trump.

I explained with crystal clarity on the trading forum why his plan will never work and totally expected you guys to respond with links of how it will work and even how it’s working already.

I am greatly opposed to using hate as a motivator for thoughts and actions.
Despite voting for Trump in November and expecting plenty of nonsense the next 4 years, this is way beyond anything acceptable.
If I was the one in control right now, I would impeach him.

Dont forget that I vehemently defended him when the Ds embarrassed themselves and our country when they impeached him over their 100% politically motivated   phone call justification.

This is an entirely different deal. It clearly demonstrates that he is extremely delusional And very dangerous.
He thinks that he can make up new laws in global economics, calling trade imbalances for legit reasons, TARIFFS and by decree, passing his own rules that banish the trade imbalances and ordering manufacturing businesses to return to the United States.

This is more like science fiction and clearly demonstrates his delusions of grandeur,, pathological thinking as the most powerful person on the planet on a whole new dangerous level.

His nonsense about making Greenland part of the United States sending the VP there and all that absurd  stuff is more evidence of his omnipotent mentality but it has just been a huge joke for us to laugh about. It ticked off everybody in Greenland and tipped off a lot of people that he’s delusional but didn’t really seriously do that much damage.

His fake tariffs decree has already done tremendous damage and is no joke. It means this guy is extremely dangerous to our country and the world.

Regardless of me being behind him strongly in ending the war in Ukraine, his rooting out the fake climate scamsters  that are using it for political agenda and crony capitalism and a couple of other things, unless he comes out and rescinds much of these junk global economics theories, I consider him to be unqualified to consistently use good judgment and his mental illness, delusions of grandeur, to be advancing similar to Bidens cognitive decline..

If the stock market drops enough, enough of the Republican Congressional members may finally cave due to their personal wealth plunging. That’s what may finally get them fed up enough with Trump to take away his pseudo-dictatorial powers (i.e., unopposed), finally get a spine, and for the good of our country join the Dems in voting against allowing just one man, Trump, to control the tariffs, which he’s not supposed to be able to do absent a legit emergency.

Thanks, Larry great point!

Trump has crystal clearly violated the Constitution with his fake tariff nonsense to fix the big trade imbalances that are not fixable because of the indisputable laws of economics  between poor countries and rich country production costs.

At the very least, Congress and the Supreme Court should immediately take actions to make what he did illegal and reverse all of it.

U.S. Constitution.net

Who Controls U.S. Tariffs? The Constitution vs. Presidential Power

    by Eleanor Stratton

in

https://www.usconstitution.net/executive-tariff-authority/

These powers are not absolute. The Supreme Court has consistently underscored the need for an “intelligible principle” guiding the exercise of any delegated authority. This judicial oversight ensures that the President’s tariff-related powers align with congressional intent and constitutional mandates.

While the President possesses significant authority to impose tariffs under certain conditions, this power is framed by statutory directives and constitutional principles that uphold the balance of powers. The legislative branch retains its critical oversight role, ensuring that tariffs are used judiciously in accordance with national interests and the rule of law.

+++++++++++++++++

What Trump did is clearly in violation of the Constitution but even if he had this power, what he just did shows that he's not able to connect basic, global economic laws to the authentic realities and accept them.

1. Poor countries will ALWAYS have much lower production costs(especially labor). They will make and sell things much cheaper than rich countries. They will ALWAYS have much less money to buy things, especially higher priced things from rich countries.

2. Rich countries will always make things using much higher input costs (especially labor) and sell them at much higher prices. They will always have MUCH MORE money to buy things, including cheaply priced  things from poor countries.

3. There are other factors too. A shortage of skilled labor workers in the US.  Companies need to build or retrofit facilities, purchase equipment and invest in technology to compete with the advanced manufacturing capabilities of their overseas counterparts. This level of investment is risky, particularly in a volatile global economy.

4. These irrefutable global economic laws will always cause a trade imbalance between poor and rich countries in favor of the poor countries.

5. Which, as it turns out is not always a bad thing since it helps balance the great inequities between the rich and poor countries. Rich countries because they are rich can afford to pay more, along with all the other massive material world benefits they have surrounding them FROM THEIR OWN COUNTRIES. Poor countries don't have material world diddly squat, including money. They work extremely hard for dirt cheap labor prices to generate exports to rich countries just to survive.

Trump is abusing his power, trying to make this invalid. Insanely referring to the above, indisputable trade imbalances as "tariffs" and claiming that he will not only make them go away by decree, he will cause the manufacturing industries in the poor countries (that are there to take advantage of cheap production costs)  come to the United States where we have very high production costs.

Complete lack of understanding in the most basic economic principles by Trump. Why should we give this any time to work?

Trusting in Trump is not going to make the impossible happen!

I watched Fox news for a couple of hours tonight.

It made me sad to think of so many people having their intelligence stolen with constant hate and manufactured realities all evening long.

It's definitely working for them to make money by selling lies to  Rs that tune in to hear them.

Fox News Breaks Cable News Ratings Record

https://www.tvinsider.com/1184512/fox-news-ratings-trump-hannity-gutfeld-watters/

Fox lied to us tonight and claimed that Trumps approval rating shot up by 4% since he announced the tariffs........but they didn't site any polls.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

Let me do that:

Donald Trump approval rating today: Here's what polls say amid tariffs and trade disputes

https://www.yahoo.com/news/donald-trump-approval-rating-today-080224281.html?fr=yhssrp_catchall

The most recent Harvard CAPS/Harris pollfound 49% of registered voters approved of Trump’s job performance, compared to 52% last month in same poll.

Donald Trump's Approval Rating Goes Negative With His Top Pollster

https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-approval-rating-negative-pollster-2056230

+++++++++++++++++++

Trump's ratings have peaked with a ton of downside coming with the Trump recession. The only way to stop that is if Trump suddenly rescinds the tariffs and accepts the trade imbalance. However, since he doesn't understand global economics 101 (and/or he thinks that his omnipotence can make impossible things happen by command) this seems unlikely.

Fox is telling us that many dozens of countries have already conceded to everything Trump is demanding and are pleading with him to make a deal.

Their viewers will continue to tune in to have their intelligence stolen.  Ignorance is bliss!

While the MSM distorts the news with left sided bias, at least much of their news is still true.

At Fox tonight, it was just 1 lie after another, some of them pretty absurd/egregious.  I get why so many millions of Fox viewers think the way they do!

The  biggest concern is that they have convinced a tremendous amount of people of things that will cause confrontations with the other side that is protesting Trump.

One of them is to confidently profess and encourage intense hatred for anybody that isn't part of their R club. All night long on every show.

 Hate(and love)

Thanks, mcfarm!

Wow, this version of FDR does sound extremely similar to what Trump is doing.

For a party and leader that is all about capitalism, free trade, the government staying out and the Constitution, Trump's fake tariff scam is the most powerful Constitution violating, government controlling, free trade stifling move in the history of our country.

If the fake tariff scam had 1 iota of a chance of managing  the trade imbalance, using authentic economic principles instead of 10 times more damage than the meager speculative potential benefits, I would be for it.

This scam is just as likely to happen as charlatan Musk's scam selling us on 5 million people colonizing Mars.

Musk on Mars:

On both these topics, all I ask people to do is look at what Musk and Trump are promising, then look at the authentic, indisputable facts provided and use their brains to do critical thinking, not their political affiliation and religious faith in these flawed people.
