While pushing ‘America First,’ Trump set to accept Qatar’s luxury jet as Air Force One
The Qatari plane and its whiff of excess would also seem at odds with Trump’s message that Americans may have to make do with less as he remakes the global economic order.
WASHINGTON — In Donald Trump’s vision, he’s set to usher in an American “golden age” in which the nation makes more of the world’s goods and sells more of its products.
But when it comes to the president’s personal travel, he’s ready to ditch the old 747 known as Air Force One in favor of a luxe jet that the royal family of Qatar, a tiny yet rich Arab country nearly 7,000 miles away, wants to gift to the U.S.
The image of the 'America First' president floating above the clouds in Qatari splendor doesn’t sit well with some of the MAGA faithful, much less the good government groups who warn the deal may run afoul of the constitutional clause that bars gifts from foreign nations absent congressional approval.
"That's a pretty strange offer," Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis. said.
Laura Loomer, a Trump ally, posted on social media that while she would “take a bullet” for the president, accepting a plane from Qatar would be “such a stain” on the Trump administration. “I’m so disappointed,” she wrote.
“They’re giving us a free jet,” Trump said. “I could say, ‘No, no, no, don’t give us. I want to pay you a billion or $400 million, or whatever it is,’ or I could say, ‘Thank you very much.’ You know?”
Getting Congress to approve the present, in keeping with the constitution’s emoluments clause, would seem a heavy lift. A 60-vote supermajority would be required for Senate passage.
But if Trump forges ahead and accepts the plane without Congress’ assent, there may not be much to stop him. He demonstrated in his first term that he has little to fear by way of impeachment.
Ben Shapiro slams Donald Trump for accepting a $400 million jet as a gift from Qatar: "Taking sacks of goodies from people who support Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood, al-Jazeera, all the rest — that’s not America First!... I think inherently it is bad. I do not think this is good. I think if we switched the names to Hunter Biden and Joe Biden, we’d all be freaking out on the Right."

Thanks, Larry!
Fascinating based on the mentally ill president with delusions of grandeur pathological thinking.
1. Qatar knows that materialistic Trump has the biggest ego on the planet and appeals to it with this massive gift. Trump THRIVES on people bowing down to his omnipotence.
2. Trump is massively flattered because of this but also wants the world to know that they offered him this gift, which is the biggest benefit for him. That everybody know that his omnipotence was so highly valued by another country trying to win favor with him.
3. His opponents going bonkers over it is actually another benefit to Trump. Trump loves to do things that upset his detractors. Whether he will accept the gift or not, we don't know but he wants the left to think he's going to accept it because it's so upsetting to them. Yes, I know some Rs are against it too.
4. Biggest benefit of all for Trump is this elevates him or something related to him to the top story in the latest news cycle. Attention makes him tick.
Dear TDSer'S. What does this have to do with Trump. Why do you jump just like the libs always do to foolish conclusions. Just like France did when they "gave us" the Statue of Liberty the President is not involved the way I heard it anyway. Qautar wants to ease some of its guilty conscience by giving America a gift and Trump either will or will not use it until the next election, who cares.
Qautar owes the US big time just like France owed us big time so yes what is the harm of accepting as a country a gift. Seems just last week you were all on a roll about "getting along" with other countries and now you want to offend them because you hate Trump. Its very weird stuff and a sickness for sure.
Thanks much mcfarm,
Expressed like a true blue TGS guy!
Trump Glorification Syndrome.
well MM how about an answer then? I just asked questions because I have not heard much about the deal other than what I asked. Do they owe the US? Of course. Did France owe the US? Of course. Did they give the plane to Trump or the US? Where was the big out cry when we accepted the Statue of Liberty? Should we of turned the statue down like the tdsers want us to turn the plane down? Seems like easy questions if you are accusing me of over support unless there is something I have not heard. I have not heard one thing today or last nite about the plane that has the tdsers spleens all exploding.
And for far more than the umpteenth time I support good policy for a strong America. I do not support Trump the man in many of his actions. But I do know good policy when I see it and terribly bad policy has been so easy to see the last 4 years its even easier to support the opposite. No matter what the personality of the person who brought the good policy.
Thanks, mcfarm!
This is just more extreme nonsense by Trump and anybody that supports it.
For me, this is just an analysis of pathological thinking and actions.
But if you want some reasons for NOT doing it
1. It will cost the American people billions of dollars to take the jet apart and retrofit it with the security and equipment needed and take a couple of years, when Trump is close to the end of his term. It would be much cheaper to start from scratch with a jet not assembled yet.
2. Who takes lavish gifts from terrorist countries/organizations? Defending this is taking the TGS to the next level. Ironically, from the same MAGA people that have been screaming the loudest about terrorism and terrorist countries. MAGA has been the most intolerant of all groups in this country when it comes to Muslims, suddenly doing a 180 because TGS compels it.
3. This is a peace offering and gift similar to the Statute of Liberty???? That's TGS on steroids, blood doping and smoking crack cocaine while committing a felony!

Here's more on the Statute of Liberty to help you out:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_Liberty
4. I still think that Trump will reject it because he sees how it tarnishes his omnipotent reputation and is blatant corruption and hypocrisy for even some of his most loyal TGS supporters to see. If not for that, he probably accepts it.
5. If he does end up accepting it anyway, then his pathological thinking is escalating to an increasing danger to our country and the world.
6. I'll continue to recognize Trumps accomplishments and good things for the next 3.5 years with as much gusto as his Twilight Zone type, very bad judgment decision making. Most of all, I will enjoy the analysis.
Besides the previously stated reasons, this is what Trump really wants it for below:
As far as Team Trump goes: if you've lost Loomer, you've lost the plot
"The decommissioned Qatar aircraft will go to a future Trump Library."
+++++++++++++++
Mr. Delusions of Grandeur is imagining how great this will be for his legacy. When future generations will be awestruck as they tour the Trump Library and see this massive gift to this omnipotent president that the entire world bowed down to.
No joke! That's what he thinks.
no one I know of ever compared the plane to the statue of liberty. the comparison was the gift and the decision to accept the gift or not. To offend the giver or not? To allow the giver to ease their guilt for abusing America's good will or not. Its the act not the gift. Again I have not heard what the heck Trump's personal problems have to do with this. Did Jefferson, Madison or Washington take this heat? I do know something of those times and people and have not read where their personality's ruined the event.
Thanks, mcfarm!

The $400 million jet that President Trump says the Air Force plans to accept from Qatar would be worth 100 times more than every other presidential gift from a foreign nation combined since 2001, according to an Axios analysis of State Department data

The negatives outweigh the positives by 100 to 1 on this.
Actually, there are no sensible positives.
Inflating Trump's galaxy sided ego is a blatant negative and is driving his pathological thinking which is hurting the US and world.
Killing our relationship with key allies, like Canada. Causing chaos with absurd tariff schemes that supposedly will fix an impossible to fix trade imbalance between our trading partners. Embarrassing the United States.
No, Trump does not need to have his ego inflated even more.
oh crap the bed Fred. What just came out today. Negotiations on that started over a year ago when we had a President that was sleeping on the beach. And after all the yapping guess what it was Biden not Trump. It had to be Biden's ego not Trumps. It had to Biden in the center of the emoluments clause not Trump. It had to be Biden again responsible and all this talk was unjustified yammer laced with TDS syndrome again. You all ought to be embarrassed. Damn it to hell it was almost an issue with a few thousand libs and the wacked out press and now that issue in gone.
"Crap the bed fred"
Thanks for the expression, mcfarm!

“Far from saving money, this unconstitutional action will not only cost our nation its dignity, but it will force taxpayers to waste over $1 billion in taxpayer dollars to overhaul this particular aircraft when we currently have not one, but two fully operational and fully capable Air Force One aircraft,” said Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill.

It's really not even debatable whether this was a smart idea or not.
Trump's Milky Way sized ego likes it and he wants it in his presidential library for future generations to be amazed at how the world bowed down to the omnipotent president in 2025, showering him with an amazing gift never seen before by previous presidents(who would have all graciously turned it down and it fact, it never would have been offered because foreign countries would know better than to do such a thing under any other administration).

For somebody that claims they are trying to cut government waste and costs to tax payers, this is a big hypocritical kick in the teeth for his own self serving interests.
and for someone {the biden crime family} who were accepting cash for various favors from all around the world it seems to look particularly bad. So blame the guy who started the grand plan for the plane over a year ago. Trump could of distanced himself from the Biden plan and it still would of made all the usual TDS headlines. So I guess they thought they might as well accept it and it would be helpful for further peace negotiations in the ME. Personally I really could care less what they do with it
As the government hiring freeze nears its end, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management has released new guidelines for hopeful federal employees

I'm guessing that you like this idea, mcfarm?
No, what I prefer is this old fashioned thing called common sense. That would be for kids to go to school and be held responsible. I am guessing since it has not been mentioned none of you are too upset with the new Cal Commy proposal on school grading....like 20% is passing with no testing requirements.
I would expect federal employees to show up and actually work.....every day. Simple things that sense the Biden election have been totally removed from daily life. And in the after math is going to take a while to repair this mess in every damn corner the libs have left.

Hey mc, I agree 100% and bet Mike does, too. Common sense! I’m all about common sense and logic. At least I think I am. <G>
