Washington — President Trump said Monday that he is deploying members of the National Guard to Washington, D.C., and that the federal government has taken control of the D.C. police as part of a push to crack down on crime in the nation's capital, despite data showing crime has declined in the city in recent years.
"I'm announcing a historic action to rescue our nation's capital from crime, bloodshed, bedlam and squalor and worse," Mr. Trump said at a news conference at the White House. "This is liberation day in D.C., and we're going to take our capital back."

Violent Crime in D.C. Hits 30 Year Low

As of August 11, 2025

The statistics below reflect the data entered into MPD's records management system as of 12 am on the date above. These numbers are based on DC Code Offense definitions and do NOT reflect Part I crime totals as reported to the FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). This report should be considered ‘preliminary’ in nature. The reports are subject to change due to subsequent determinations related to amendments in classification, unfounded cases or changes in offense definitions.

Property Crime - Total | 14,734 | 14,093 | -4% |
All Crime - Total | 16,872 | 15,679 | -7% |
My educated guess/speculation is that Trump KNOWS that crime has plunged in DC for reasons that have nothing to do with him but he wants to take credit for it.
You watch. He will manipulate(lie) the statistics to compare crime after he does this and compare it to crime at some point in the past, when it was higher and insist his crack down on crime caused it. His schemes have become so predictable and so self serving.
What a waste of tax payers money and focus on a NON problem to deflect away from all the real problems, some of which he is causing and some are getting worse. His tariffs schemes are a delusional, 1 man wrecking ball that can't help but cause tremendous, widespread damage.
This is an entirely self serving PR stunt, abusing his power once again to use a federal agency in a way not intended with another galactic display of bad judgment when applying the use of our countries resources.
It's only been 7 months and this chaotic, counter productive, authoritarianism by our president without our R Congress challenging him and providing a bit of sanity has created a blatant IMbalance of power.
That would not be as bad........if this authoritarian had not lost his mind
My guess is this is just a dry run to set a precedent for future police state deployment, probably some crisis that is self inflicted by Trump.
Thanks, joj!
With this guy and his completely loony talking and actions, one disappointing surprise after another... we can't rule out anything.
Maybe you'll be right!

I think that a big underlying driving force for many of President Trumps decisions Is the amount of control it allows him to exert which defines his decision making.
Not smart reasoning based on legit facts that lead to improvements in that realm but instead, just opportunities to apply pathological control as the omnipotent, most powerful man in the world.
This could also be part of his attempt to take the focus away from his spiraling out of control Epstein-gate and tariffs disasters.

just when did Mm join a MSM fake news company. Over and over he claims he will tell the good and the bad. This is another fine example. Tariff disaster. MM has predicted the end of western civilization because of Trump and yet just this week Trump has a meet with Putin on tap, settled 2 more wars and inflation comes in at point 2...yes point 2. And all that does is prove once again what a hose job Powell is giving Trump and all Americans by holding these interest rates for political reasons. Something like 675 m cost to tax payers so Powell can be so stupid and childish.
It doesn't matter what they do in DC as far as arrest they need to do something about the crazy city counsel and judges. They could show 800 arrest in one night but what does it matter if they are out the next day. Unless of course they charge them Federally . Would be interesting to see how many actually do any time.
Thanks for your comments, mcfarm!
I'll let the objective, authentic facts here speak for themselves.
Thanks very much, jmk!
Related to your comment. I think the people who are the biggest criminals, by far doing the most harm are our ethnically bankrupt politicians that live in DC.
They have a million times more power than common criminals and homeless people(the later that deserves empathy and assistance). They touch millions of lives and are most concerned with self enrichment and maintaining their power.
https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5447093-trump-dc-democratic-cities-chicago/
The president’s comments came at the same press conference where his FBI director, Kash Patel, touted that the murder rate was on pace to be the lowest in modern history.
“He was just getting warmed up in Los Angeles,” Newsom posted on X. “He will gaslight his way into militarizing any city he wants in America. This is what dictators do.”
The administration also pointed to the volume of crimes reported thus far in 2025, despite statistics showing it has dropped year to year.

mcfarm,
If you want me to report positive things about Trump, then our president needs to do positive things. It's that simple. This isn't Fox News.
You're encouraged to continue to help me out to find those positive things as one of President Trump's cheerleaders. If they are valid, I will spent time highlighting them.. If attacks on him are unfair, I will highlight that too.
Things have been getting pretty one sided here recently. I haven't suddenly changed a thing. I'm still not a D. I still don't have TDS and don't hate Trump.
But Trump is our president now and his decision making justifies objective coverage, good or bad.
Again, nobody is stifling you, disrespecting you or attacking you(you are still my friend), which is much better treatment than Mr. Trump would give you here if you didn't agree completely with his messaging.
+++++++++++++
In watching Fox tonight, I can understand why you feel this way, mcfarm. I do watch Fox on a regular basis. NOT to find out what to think and hear things I want to be true but to try to understand why people that watch Fox think the way they do and what drives Fox in the evening.
It's not to tell the truth but instead is to maximize ratings.
I will add that its good to reduce crime for the citizens of any community, including D.C. Even with its drop in the crime rate recently, D.C. still has plenty of crime.
So that's a positive.
But the question is whether it suddenly justifies an emergency because 1 person decides its an emergency and they bring in the National Guard.
The same person who has spent much of the past 7 months practicing over reach, sometime extreme over reach.
With NO consultation or heads up for the law enforcement leaders in DC. Just like he forced the National Guard on authorities in California, despite them objecting. How can entities work together on anything when 1 of them is opposing the other one.
It's not a matter of who is right and who is wrong. It's respecting people in that jurisdiction by working with them.
What Trump did with the National Guard in California likely did more damage overall than good because he violates protocol and respect of other people.
If you have a common goal, you do things to unite. Communicate. Be transparent. Respect each other.
Trump is anti uniting, anti transparent/communication, ANTI respectful.
He decides what makes him look best and goes for it, regardless of advice from others. If they disagree or come out with stats he doesn't like he does this:
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/nuzUtA2PL1E
He hires/appoints his friends and those that did favors for him, helped elect him and that profess loyalty to Donald Trump and not to the Constitution, science or the American people.
Who would ever hire 21 people from an extreme, far right tv network for key government jobs that serve ALL Americans, more than half of which are NOT republicans?
https://www.yahoo.com/news/21-fox-news-personalities-contributors-221718333.html
Then he fills all positions with people that he knows will have their #1 priority being this: Fulfill all of Donald Trumps wishes, never disagree with him and constantly tell the world how great Donald Trump is.
Only 29% of independent voters said they approved of Trump's job performance, a 17-point decline from the 46% the president enjoyed among independents at the start of his second term. The 29% approval rating among independent voters is the lowest Gallup has tracked with the group in either of his two terms.
Trump has maintained strong support from Republican voters ‒ dropping just one point from 90% in January to 89% ‒ while backing from Democratic voters has slid from 6% to 2%.
Although Trump's "Big, Beautiful Bill" legislation marked a major legislative victory for the president, a CNN poll conducted by SSRS this month found 61% of Americans opposed the megabill, which includes cuts to Medicaid and food stamps and an extension of Trump's 2017 tax cuts estimated to add $3.3 trillion to the debt over 10 years.
Trump has also lost support on his handling of most issues. Only 37% of Americans approved of his handling of the economy in July, down from 42% in Gallup's February poll. Trump's favorability rating on immigration decreased from 46% to 38%, his handling of foreign trade from 42% to 36%, his handling of foreign affairs from 44% to 41%, and his handling of the Middle East from 40% to 36%.
Trump is supposedly all about removing government controls on the citizens of the United States and allowing capitalism and free trade, not government dominating the rules of everything and penalizing companies and consumers with expensive regulations.
This administration claims:
The White House
"REDUCING GOVERNMENT OVERREACH: President Trump’s Executive Order is consistent with his Administration’s policy to dramatically reduce the size of the Federal Government, while increasing its accountability to the American people."
His tariffs schemes are the biggest government controlled, ANTI free trade ANTI capitalism policy by our government in the last century!
Government overreach on steroids!!
++++++++++++++
The reality is that Trump is reducing government overreach of things that he doesn't like(so that he can control them personally to some extent) but INCREDIBLY increasing government overreach, in fact to much more damaging levels in realms that give him, Donald Trump the power of the government to wield however he decides.
Taking over the National Guard with his governmental emergency powers as president and using it for his, Donald Trump, Federal government overreach defined law enforcement tool that literally, steals control of law enforcement from the hands of local law enforcement in Los Angeles and D.C(with them vehemently objecting and trying to stop him) for entirely political reasons is the quintessential example of blatant abuse of extreme governmental overreach, using it as a political weapon.
As three of the most powerful men in the world attempted to seize yet another media moment broadcasting the White House’s crackdown on crime in Washington, protesters in the station drowned them out.

One of the craziest things is that R governors from states that have cities with a higher crime rate than DC are sending their National Guard to assist this Federal takeover/over reach of law enforcement. Ironically, from the guy that promised LESS government to get elected.
Mr. Trump fulfilled his promise to "drain the swamp" but he filled it back up with swamp creatures that are even worse, while practicing a form of government that is a hybrid between democracy and fascism/authoritarianism.
The most egregious violation by Trump in doing this is his abusing the men and women of the National Guard for his self serving, political nonsense based on his pathological thinking that doesn't care about the human beings, who's lives he is disrupting for a FAKE National Emergency and for them to do something they never imagined would be what they would be called to duty for.
The National Guard is composed of wonderful, patriotic men and women that are willing to drop everything in their civilian lives in order to serve the needs of our country.
If they wanted to be cops, they would have signed up for the local police force.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Guard_(United_States)
The majority of National Guard soldiers and airmen hold a civilian job full-time while serving part-time as a National Guard member
+++++++++++++
In addition, some of them were going to college and had to drop out because of Trump. All of them with jobs, had to leave their jobs. All of them had to leave their residence and families. All of this is costing our government a tremendous amount of money.
All this to act as psuedo cops in Washington D.C. for the politics of Donald Trump.
It's just not right to take advantage of and sheeet on this wonderful, patriotic people like this. Trump obviously doesn't give a sheet about them.
++++++++++++
The National Guard is a special part of the U.S. military that answers to both state governors and the president. While it began as a “strategic reserve,” the guard has come to play an important role in domestic and overseas operations.
https://www.cfr.org/backgrounder/what-does-us-national-guard-do
https://onlinewilder.vcu.edu/blog/national-guard-disaster-response/
MM, do you understand that national guard duty is voluntary? Do you not understand that if you volunteer you fully should know just what you volunteered for. My grand daughter is the guard in DC. Not a single tear, scream or whimper out her or anyone in her unit. She gets up every morning and does her duty. Just what do you think of these fine young people? Seems not much or how else to explain these silly notions of their intelligence, devotion to duty, and love of country?????????
MM, do you understand that national guard duty is voluntary?
Of course I do mcfarm. You didn't comprehend a word in my last post.
Our wonderful patriotic, VOLUNTARY National Guard is being abused for a political stunt of the current president!
Their lives and their families lives are being completely disrupted!
Not for a national emergency, not for defending our country.
Not because of a crisis. Not to assist US citizens to recover from a disaster or cope with a pandemic.
Entirely as a political stunt in a place where the majority of the people and the mayor don't want them there.
Do you not realize how that sucks for them?
When they help people after a hurricane or flood or during COVID the people being helped are extremely grateful and the National Guards sacrifices bring them the rewards of knowing they provided assistance that those people wanted, needed and appreciated.
Are you not aware of how they are being received in D.C>????
Fox won't tell you this but the residents THAT DON'T WANT THEM THERE are protesting and verbally expressing this to these people who are putting their personal lives on hold for this. They know it's a waste of their time and have to take the verbal abuse of the people that don't want them there and are rejecting them but they don't complain because they are just doing whatever their president assigns.
Do you think that's fair to them and their families making this sacrifice for Trump's ego/political stunt/authoritarianism? It's that Trump, self serving interest +being strongly rejected by the people that live there.
I can tell you with high certainty that their wives/husbands, children, parents and families that don't belong to MAGA are pretty upset with Trump for taking their spouse or dad or brother/son away to be a part of this political gimmick that is self serving for President Trump.
Our great National Guard deserves so much better treatment. More respect for their humanity, lives and families. Not used as pawns to serve the impulsive political whims of somebody blatantly abusing their authority.
Do you think that this will entice new, patriotic Americans to sign up for the National Guard?
In all prior missions before Trump started using them, the National Guard was seen ALWAYS as men and women, serving and helping Americans and America UNIVERSALLY! Great for recruitment.
The majority of people REJECTING the National Guard's involvement in DC is bad for FUTURE recruitment. This is a public relations disaster for the National Guard. They are just doing their jobs but have been unfairly put in a role of doing a very unpopular job for half the people viewing it compared to near 100% approval of all the other jobs they do.
Maybe not with MAGA but for most of everybody else.
These are some of the very negative consequences that Fox News will never tell you about.

Manner, who served the guard for 15 years, says deploying troops into D.C. is a bad idea for several reasons. He notes that the guard is not trained in "policing actions," like the Metropolitan Police and other officers, and their deployment to U.S. streets negatively impacts their readiness to respond to emergencies, like war and natural disasters.
"The sad thing is this is a political prop. Our young soldiers and airmen are political props," Manner said.
++++++++++++++
What makes it even more insane is R governors with cities that have a higher crime rate than DC, sending their national guard to join in the abuse of our National Guard as political props.
Our awesome National Guard does not deserve this pee poor abuse at the hands of Predator Trump!
''Of course I do mcfarm. You didn't comprehend a word in my last post.' MM 8/23/25.

I have great respect and admiration for your wonderful grand daughter for her service to our country, as my previous posts very strongly emphasized. YOU may want to ignore the facts that I mentioned but my empathy for human beings and the National Guard members, compels me to discuss the FOR REAL negative psychological impact this has on them as human beings.
You don't have to be able to comprehend it and may think that because you have a relative in the National Guard it somehow gives your MAGA view credibility but I will continue to discuss the OBJECTIVE NON MAGA views here.
And at the same time, your MAGA views are always welcome here, mcfarm. 100% of the time, they are! I encourage you to continue to give us your opinions.
The ones that disagree with me are my favorite by far.
Those are the ones that I learn the most from.
In sincerely comprehending other people's views that are different than ours, 3 things can happen, sometimes all 3:
1. We can learn new things.
2. We WILL learn about why other people think the way they do. This ALWAYS HAPPENS!!! Even if they are wrong, we will gain new insight into WHY they think this way.
3. We should always fact check ourselves again, using the scientific method to be sure, we aren't overlooking the points the other person is making. If we are overlooking something, it's a wonderful opportunity to adjust our opinion based on things we didn't know.
I sincerely like being wrong but only in combination with using it to change/adjust to being right. This means I/we learned something. We corrected from being wrong to being right based on the authentic evidence/information. Other than it damaging people's ego's, what better way is there to LEARN?
Many people live by the "ignorance is bliss" principle where they believe in things that describe a wishful world, going to biased sources that tell them what they want to hear/read.
I intentionally go to both sides. Fox, CNN, NPR. NPR is out to lunch on the fake climate crisis.........but I understand why they are that way.
Fox news strikes out the vast majority of times...........but every once in a while they hit a home run, even a grand slam. Even the most diabolical personality on television, Mark Levin has hit grand slams before. If I didn't watch his offensive broadcasting, I would not understand him and his viewers and might miss the rare gold acorns that he stumbles on like a blind squirrel.
And when I provide negative assessments about Mark Levin, it's not based on anything other than actually WATCHING HIM and commenting on the authenticity of his fake persona, with choreographed mannerisms(taking his glasses off at all the right times, while he spews/yells out hate loaded narratives.
Delivering extreme, very laughable, nonsense based on fake and twisted, very toxic facts which make his shows more like science fiction but extremely dangerous fiction because his viewers BELIEF ALL OF IT!
How do I know that?
I watch him!
At least when my wife isn't around. She can't stand hate teaching charlatans like him(and she leans strongly to the R party) but it especially stresses her out, if she also has to listen to my comments about Levin while he's on the air.
I missed Levin's take on Bolton yesterday but might watch him tonight. If he stumbles on an acorn, I'll pass it on.
++++++++++++++++++
OK, I went to Levin's site for his radio show and opinions.
Sorry, no acorns or home runs from Levin this week. Just his usual, biased garbage designed to maximize his ratings by telling MAGA what they wish was true and stealing their intelligence.
One thing that is actually pretty funny, is that Levin actually elevates Ghislaine Maxwell to a very credible character witness for Predator Trump that we should believe(contradicting all the authentic facts, especially about her. That's typical Mark Levin.
See, I wouldn't know this without actually LISTENING to Mark Levin! But I admit to being greatly entertained by him which actually makes listening to Levin fun in a strange sort of way.

It looks like joj may have been right! Only it's MUCH, MUCH worse because there is no crisis. Trump just wants to abuse his unlimited governmental power to take over states/cities based on pathological thinking/justifications.
Too much. The guy that was elected on a platform/promise to give the states more power and federal government less.

My guess is this is just a dry run to set a precedent for future police state deployment, probably some crisis that is self inflicted by Trump.
+++++++++++++++++++
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has insisted there is “no emergency that warrants” Trump sending troops into the Windy City.
https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/5468179-wes-moore-trump-national-guard/
Moore, in a Sunday interview with CBS News’s “Face the Nation” with Margaret Brennan, said there were “plenty of reasons” why he opposed the deployment, including that it is unsustainable, not scalable, and unconstitutional.
“The fourth reason is because it’s deeply disrespectful to the members of the National Guard,” Moore said. “As someone who actually deployed overseas and served my country in combat, to ask these men and women to do a job that they’re not trained for is just deeply disrespectful.”
+++++++++++++++
1. The cost to tax payers to do this for 1 city is over $1 million/day
2. This can't be sustained. You can't ask the National Guard that signed up for REAL emergencies to spend the rest of their lives, away from their families(in another state) and giving up their civilian lives/jobs/education to walk around and pretend to be cops in another state, not doing much most of the time. This is deeply disrespectful to them.
3. It can't be sustained in just city. To expand the same thing to other cities is ludicrous and shows Trump lacks the ability to comprehend complex situations enough to come up with viable solutions.
Instead of flushing all this money and resources down the toilet and using/abusing the National Guard to do something they didn't sign up for(they would have signed up to be cops, living with their families in their homes if this was THEIR choice). Trump should be working with the cities with the highest crime rates to support them. Their programs. Their police. Their leadership. Instead, he does the complete opposite. He attacks them in an extremely disrespectful way. Calling them childish names. Providing nothing but criticism but no assistance that can have a PERMANENT impact.
After Trump is done abusing the National Guard for his political stunt to get attention and pretend to be about law enforcement so that his base can cheer and pretend he's great to boost his ego and the National Guard is finally allowed to go back home to their families where they belong. Waiting to serve our country for a REAL emergency which they signed up for.............then what?
Trump has no idea. Seriously, like his tariffs, negotiations for peace in Ukraine/Middle East and other realms, he has no long term, coherent strategy that he stays focused and consistent on.
He rules by the seat of his pants and impulsively changes course for the silliest of SELF SERVING reasons.
Maybe he will send the National Guard to Chicago and other cities, maybe he won't. He might have no idea himself.
Serious people that fight crime, have a serious plan, can tell us what it is, why it will work and put it into effect permanently because its sustainable. They work with the people who's job it is to fight crime(in this case, the mayor and police chief), NOT against them.
+++++++++++++++
The biggest thing here for Trump is that he is loving all the attention and his ability to exploit his power using pathological thinking as the most powerful person on the planet. This is almost always his top priority in every realm.
He doesn't want to work with local officials to help them improve their police departments. Because they are Ds he is intentionally opposing them. When he and the National Guard leave, it will be back to the local police and he will have gotten his attention and battle with no long term benefits to anybody. Just costs to taxpayers and time lost away from their families and lives to our National Guard.
Most of us forgot completely about the National Guard in DC near the end of Trump's first term. This was legit because of the rioting.
By Idrees Ali and Makini Brice
if our citizens, gov employees and guest cannot feel safe in our capitol just what kind of country do we have. Why and how did this ever become an argument? Our capitol was a mess and the local refused to complete their duties. Just why does the left want the capitol to become a crime pit. You might think the left has an agenda/////???? Really the left with an agenda to hurt America. At any rate not a MURDER IN 9 DAYS SAYS A HELL OF A LOT FOE THE JOB THE NEW SERIOUS ANTI CRIME PEOPLE ARE DOING.

———————
Hey mc,
I thought I read that the crime rate in DC wasn’t all that bad and that this this was exaggerated. If so, why not let the local authorities in charge continue to handle crime? Am I remembering that not so bad crime rate correctly or am I imagining reading that?
The issue here is the current federal Executive branch of govt. for the umpteenth time unnecessarily overreaching with regard to its Constitutional authority. Is that what you want? I thought you were conservative. That sounds more like what a lib would want, a larger and more powerful Federal govt. What about states’ rights? Does that no longer matter?
Thanks, mcfarm!
President Trump, who has sent the military into Los Angeles and Washington, has targeted states and cities governed by Democrats.
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/26/us/politics/trump-national-guard-chicago-dictator.html
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I‘m against crime too but am sorry to say that this very short term, purely political stunt is flushing money and resources down the toilet. Here's EXACTLY why.
It's unsustainable. The National Guard being abused for this because of a short term fake emergency declared by Trump will be going home at some point. What will be left is the exact same dynamics that were there BEFORE they arrived.
Their lives disrupted, the hundreds of millions of dollars spent having them out there for X weeks...........all gone forever and wasted.
If Trump was actually serious and understand how to fight crime, as do police forces and local communities who he, ironically refuses to work with intentionally and actually attacks them and calls them names he would be ASSISTING THEM and their long term programs that make a difference.
Investment in programs that interrupt the violence. Mentorship. Support for homeless programs. Psychological counseling and treatment programs. These DO make a difference longer term to stop the CAUSE of the crime.
Think how much of a REAL difference that President Trump could make if he understood this? Instead, he's flushing this money and resources down the toilet, FIGHTING with the ones that understand this to make Donald Trump, the "tough on crime" president look good. While under his facade, he's a big fake that wastes our tax dollars abusing his power in realms that he doesn't comprehend well and refuses to work with those that do understand them.
I've discussed THE solution on the previous page a number of times here. How to go about it. The cost and so on.

Below is one example and it applies to EVERY race:
Also, please stop only looking at the color of people's skin and judging the severity of the crime or damage based on skin color. We are all HUMAN BEINGS.
Who cares if the cop was white and the 13 year old was brown? That played 0 role in what happened in that dark alley...............ZERO.
Yes, more black and brown people live in the inner city..............how about we get together and work on fixing that problem.....not because of their skin color but because they are human beings.......please, let's do that!!!
Let's start by teaching(and setting an example) to treat each other with respect, especially those from a different political party or political belief system because they are human beings. Less hate, more love. Less judgment, more tolerance and understanding.
Anyway, here's the thread from last year:
https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/53752/#53753
Young black males commit violent crimes at a rate(in the study that I sourced a couple of year ago) 6 times higher than young white males. Being raised without a good male role model has alot to do with that. Would taking away welfare cause young black men to suddenly metamorphose into responsible fathers and husbands?
Maybe you think that young black women would stop having sexual relationships or use better protection if there was no welfare.
Turns out that black women actually abort more babies than they raise in many big cities and many of them raise those children without husbands. If they are having those children because it gets them welfare, then we must assume that no welfare would result in a higher black abortion rate.
The welfare system is not the main problem in this case. Changing the culture requires outside help. These people on welfare and in the inner cities that were raised by single parents(moms) or in dysfunctional families, don't have the understanding or blue prints to know how to be good parents(especially the men) or how to be successful in life.
There has to be something that interrupts the repeating, viscous cycle via the education system or thru local organizations that connect with vulnerable children, starting at young age to teach them.
I strongly believe that good parenting classes in high school should be mandatory, especially in low income areas with single parent families. Can you teach love? This is not about religion but that's exactly what the 4 Gospels of Jesus did. .....and its blossomed into Christianity that has profoundly changed the world for the much better. What I'm suggesting is ethics classes combined with parenting classes. The principles go hand in hand. Teach children to respect others, the value of human life and what a good parent and spouse should be doing in a successful relationship. Have people in their community(ideally from their neighborhood) come in to share their positive experiences as dad's/husbands and mothers/wifes.
With absolute certainty, this would have a profoundly positive affect on many children in dysfunctional families.
https://education.seattlepi.com/would-mandatory-parenting-classes-schools-good-idea-1803.html
Teaching at school can only do so much. What happens when they leave school to a bad neighborhood with a bad parent(s)?
A high % of bad black fathers are in prison. This is another topic altogether but it's another golden opportunity for other men, regardless of color to step forward and be mentors, role models or good examples. This is absolutely realistic.
How would that work? First you identify the men. Many will be from the suburbs, many, will be older and will have already raised their own children successfully. Some will be very young and want to have a family but haven't found the right partner yet. I have recruited men like this to be my basketball, soccer and baseball coaches(mostly the younger ones for sports). If you offered money, you will get more than just volunteers but most people like this don't do it for money. There needs to be screening, background checks and child protection classes to avoid predators/pedophiles that will weasel into programs like this to abuse boys.
Men, filling in as a positive father figures/ideally foster parents(even if they are paid) will and do make a difference in most of these boys lives. The younger the child, the better chance to connect with them before the bad things in the world surrounding them define who they are:
https://www.fosterfocusmag.com/articles/just-foster-dads-part-1
Forget about the welfare or no welfare issue or government, no government's role. Either situation is a recipe for failure if you don't have responsible adults that understand what it takes to be good parents applying their love and skills to the at risk, vulnerable children.
Most parents and spouses learned about parenting/married life from being their parents children.
We spend billions of dollars on the education system but fail to educate and prepare children for the most important role they will ever have as adults.
If these are such great idea's why aren't are paid politicians and government on to it?
Our politicians and government don't work for us much of the time and their ideas are usually not creative unless it ties in with something that will help them get elected........promises to give people things like reparations for blacks or free health care or free college. ....or to save the planet(sorry if that offends anybody from one party-but if you look at my belief system today, its the one that defined the democrats from the old days-which included me).
Being a good parent(and citizen) is several orders of magnitude more important to individuals/families and society than actions to address a fake climate crisis........even if there was a climate crisis. "
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Another thing that would help that is not being discussed, to go along with better training of cops(that HAS been happening and HAS been effective already across the nation) is to encourage them to be more of a part of positive endeavors in the black communities that they enforce laws in.
The benefits are 2 fold. The more officers that you have coming to local schools for instance, to interact in a positive way with students, the more trust that you will build in them. They ARE good people. This is being done in most communities already but there is usually a designated "Officer Friendly" and just 1 or 2 people that go to all the schools.
Most of the other cops are out there battling crime. They get bombarded all day long with real life negative experiences with criminals. After awhile, human nature, common sense/analytical thinking and street smarts working together create a cognitive bias in them...........stereotyping young black males. This leads to profiling. It can lead to them disrespecting a group that shows the most disrespect to them. The training they receive has to overcome human nature on their part which is telling their brains to judge the people based on their observations.
This can be offset when officers establish relationships and involvement in those same communities with the vast majority of blacks who are upstanding citizens. This can help balance their view.............to connect with the good side in a personal way and not always just the bad side. Have cops spend a few days in a positive environment with good people in the same community to balance all the negatives.
How about you and me try to imagine the life of an inner city cop, where violent crime is rampant and they are constantly risking their lives to arrest violent criminals who often resist physically and very often are verbally abusive. Of course that's their job. They signed up for that and know what they are getting and should be prepared for it, right?
Still, they are human beings..........almost every one of them good human beings and very few of them racist but more, them being affected by the challenging environments they work in.

8-27-25: Sending in the National Guard for a short term political stunt addresses none of that and when they go home, NOTHING IS FIXED! The person sending in the National Guard, once again shows that his actions are self serving for no long term benefits for America(often counterproductive).
When experienced people MUCH smarter than him, that truly understand the issue speak up ..........he actually attacks them and calls them names and does the complete opposite of what they suggest and what can work to make a sustainable, positive difference in these communities.
Trump, MAGA and Fox news want us to think that all the D run, big cities with high crime rates are failing because they don't have a National Guard there to enforce laws.
Increasing the LOCAL police can be 1 part of the big picture, LONG TERM solution, along with suggestions from the previous page.
However, sending in the National Guard for a temporary, short term fix that can never be sustained at a few cities and saying "Look everybody how smart I am. I stopped crime in these hell holes"..........without spending a cent or tapping resources that actually work in the long run is just a sensationalized political stunt.
not a murder in now 11 days.....all that needs to be said. Any other argument is just silly. How many times have we heard if it saves one life it was cheap but now since Trump is involved saving lives is suddenly a joke and should be ignored. Our capitol is surely important enough to police it properly.
Thanks very much, mcfarm!!!
https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/illinois-national-guard-general-president-trump-chicago-crime/
The Democratic mayor also said the presence of masked ICE agents and National Guard members “is not working.”
Several members of the City Council rebuked Bowser's conciliatory remarks, chiding her for characterizing the surge of federal law enforcement as helpful despite many Democrats’ warnings that Trump is using scare tactics to exert his presidential authority over the city.
"We should not, as the District of Columbia, be giving people the impression that this is a good thing, that we are OK with it, that it is helping the city. It is not doing any of those things," at-large Council member Robert White Jr., a Democrat, said in a video on X. "I am not OK with this. The average resident is not OK with this. D.C. residents, D.C. voters, are not OK with this."
++++++++++++++++++++++
What looks obvious to me is that cutting police has a cost in human life.
Exactly, cutworm!
That's exactly why we should be focusing on INCREASING local police force's and local community programs that are SUSTAINABLE. Coming from the law enforcement entities that live there permanently.
Not just a piling on of our military for a brief, impossible to sustain political stunt that ends up flushing most of that money down the toilet, ABANDONING the requests and needs of the local law enforcement and local community that are left to pick up the pieces and deal with it because they are Ds.
We should note that Trump is only targeting D run cities because that's how it is with big cities. People that live in big cities are very strongly connected to D values, so they vote for D candidates.
Trump sees this as an easy peasy way to have a battle with Ds over crime and make himself look good by abusing his power to send in the National Guard AGAINST the wishes of the people that need help with the existing programs, NOT the National Guard.
We don't have even a tiny fraction of the man/women power needed to fight crime across the big cities in our country in the form of the National Guard. Everybody that's actually serious about fighting crime knows that with crystal clarity.
More LOCAL police is a wonderful solution to go with other LOCAL programs that address the root causes as well as enforce laws PERMANENTLY.
Invest in the technologies to help those local communities fight crime.
Invest in the prosecutors office(and judges) to catch up on the backlog of cases. Invest in the facilities to house criminals.
Invest in the programs to help change the mentality and the vicious cycles.
Invest in the counseling.
Using the National Guard is a dead end street. A political stunt that exploits peoples lack of understanding of the effective ways to reduce crime long term. Instead, invest in the things that actually work to permanently reduce crime.
Breaking the cycle of crime requires solutions that empower people and strengthen communities.
++++++++++++++++++
Instead of sensationalizing the expensive political stunt currently going on in D.C. that is a very temporary use of the money and resources from somebody that is unable to understand much of the above, let's actually MAKE A LONG TERM DIFFERENCE for the people that live in these communities that they ALL BENEFIT from.
Ironically, Trump's Big (NOT) Beautiful Bill does the diametrically opposed polar opposite of this!!!
It's hurts the lowest income families which are the most likely to commit crime when they have less jobs/income/health care/resources. There's nothing in there for helping local communities with the assistance they need to fight crime.
Trump Defunds Effective Crime-Prevention Policies
Misguided budget cuts could reverse encouraging crime trendsJuly 22, 2025
Enter Donald Trump for his Oval Office encore. He has slashed funds for the very programs that are working to restore public order. In April, the Department of Justice canceled $820 million in grants supporting more than 550 organizations across the country directed at reducing crime and promoting public safety.
In a new analysis, my colleagues Nicole Ndumele and Ames Grawert detail the striking scope of these cuts. For example, the administration cut $13 million from a program that directly funded law enforcement in rural communities and has been used to investigate sexual assault charges and curb child abuse. It cut $3.5 million from a program that brought together law enforcement officials, community leaders, and researchers to address violent crime — a program that Trump himself deemed a success in his first term.
The DOJ also cut funds from programs that have developed novel approaches to violence prevention that are both effective and humane. It cut $169 million from community-based programs that fund promising new ways to reduce violence by relying on community leaders to de-escalate conflicts before they become violent.
At the same time, Trump continues to blare that crime is rampant and immigrants are to blame. As he defunds violence prevention programs that work, he is pouring resources into a drive to detain and deport immigrants — who, again, statistically commit little of the violence people fear.
These policies literally defund the police — along with proven public safety programs — while they fund Alligator Alcatraz. Demagogic words, self-defeating policies. It’s a bad combination.
Evidently violence prevention programs do not work as well as more law enforcement.
Trump is showing that enforcement works in DC.
Thanks very much, cutworm!
As for grants I'm reminded about a grant the Scheriff received for a bout to patrol a nearby lake. Then they had to have a vehicle to pull the boat. Then a garage to house it. then fuel oil ect. But the worst part was that's all the deputies wanted to do. A very big waste of money, that resulted in less protection.
Thanks, cutworm. Cute story but it has nothing to do with anything I've stated here, if you're actually reading it.
Objective facts about authentically fighting crime on a sustainable basis.
Invest in LOCAL law enforcement, including training. We seem to agree on this!
Invest in the technologies to help those local communities/cops fight crime.
Invest in the prosecutors office(and judges) to catch up on the backlog of cases.
Invest in the facilities to house criminals.
Invest in the programs to help change the mentality and the vicious cycles.
Invest in the counseling.
Which one of the items above are you against, cutworm?

Even President Trump agrees that what he's suggesting outside of D.C. is against the Constitution, which he's willing to break left and right, ever since he lost the 2020 election, then got elected for a 2nd term.
Here's the man himself saying it:
https://www.facebook.com/reel/1769323723965734
https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-said-t-deploy-national-223947002.html
In the ABC News clip, Trump tells George Stephanopoulos, “We have to go by the laws. We can’t move in the National Guard. I can call insurrection but there’s no reason to ever do that, even in a Portland case,” referring to the then-current Portland, Oregon protests over the murder of George Floyd.
‘We can’t call in the National Guard unless we’re requested by a governor,” Trump said at the time.
++++++++++++++=
Last time that I checked, Congress didn't make any amendments and the Supreme Court hasn't made any huge decisions to change the Constitution truth that Trump was insisting on in 2020.
The Constitution hasn't changed but here during his 2nd term, Trump says he can do what he wants. He no longer cares about the Constitution with the R Congress, abdicating their separation of powers to him to violate the Constitution with little resistance.

These are not my words, they are the exact words of Trump.
speaking of the "cute" remark to cutworm MM. did you intentionally cut off the Trump quote or did the idiots at MSM do that for you? Fed code 10 12406 states and I know this is troubling t you because Trump is President...but that code give a lot of lee way to the Executive for a good reason. It states he can call out the guard for many reasons. One of which even local authorities cannot enforce the law.
This so eerily similar to the voting mess when the left does something like allow China to try to cheat with fake drivers licenses they not only do not stop it but cover it up for 5years because why? Well Wray and fbi found it china was trying to cheat for Biden and then suddenly dropped the investigation.....curious. Can you imagine had they tried to help Trump instead of Biden? The total atomic bomb that would of been. Instead we got millions flowing to the Biden family and a lying cheating doj to boot,
You all better make up you minds just what kind of doj you want and if you got the guts for a republic or not.
Thanks much, mcfarm:

Objective facts about authentically fighting crime on a sustainable basis.

well gee that is a tough one MM. Seems one side recently has had the entire law and order thing and one side has not. The left would be the has not.
You all better make up you minds just what kind of doj you want and if you got the guts for a republic or not.
Guts has nothing to do with it for me. That false Fox/MAGA narrative to convince people that only they have the secret to save our country and it always means following Trump like a religion doesn't work for me.
For me at least, its all about:
1. Rules and laws that mean following the Constitution
2. Ethical standards that include treating ALL people with respect, including those that disagree and those from a different party. Listening to what they have to say.
3. Honestly, not telling thousands of lies/year
4. NOT weaponizing your power against your political enemies
5. I already stated what I think we should be investing our money in to reduce crime
Seems one side recently has had the entire law and order thing and one side has not. The left would be the has not.
Thanks, mcfarm!
Wouldn't it be great if Trump really cared about EVERYBODY and he actually did some things to help the left with the big city crime using the proven effective, golden standards for effective crime fighting listed below.
Tell me which one of these is not a good idea, please? Tell me which ones Trump is using to help fight crime in high crime cities.
Objective facts about authentically fighting crime on a sustainable basis.

Instead of helping, his Big NOT) Beautiful Bill takes away resources from poor communities struggling to fight crime.
My point is that the local government should bear the burden of police protection. ( and the other things you previously mentioned.) Federal grants are wasting money, time and control. The dems defunded the police and put out ideas such as paying felon's not to commit any more crimes!
Cincinnati is having the worst murder rate in a long time. They are 163 officers short. Dems have been in control of Cincinnati as long as I remember.
Any murder is 1 to many.
I agree strongly , cutworm.
Like you stated, this should be about local government controlling law enforcement and not the National Guard!
And that this should be about saving THE MOST lives by investing long term in local government with sustainable programs that maximize benefits to the most people over time.
cutworm said it "should" be about local gov but right now its not. And his city of Cincinnati and mine of Indpls are 2 prime examples of the mess local libs cause. As is plainly stated in our constitution if the locals will not fight crime the feds will have to.
And this nonsense about Trump doing nothing for the "average" American has to stop MM. what you think of Trump personally is of not matter. Unless you want to objectively evade the facts Trumps policies, nearly every single thing he ran on, and is pushing is helpful. From the boarder to the inner city his policies have helped. His approval rating are now up not down as you profess. Trariffs have not wrecked the economy and inflation is 2%. Again which way have you lectured for month after month they would go?
His best hope is for dems to just keep parading around pushing crime, open boarder, trans this and trans that, and Trump is a nazi dictator. Just reinforces who really controls the left and what they stand for.
Unless you want to objectively evade the facts Trumps policies, nearly every single thing he ran on, and is pushing is helpful.
Thanks for the Fox News and MAGA cheerleader, manufactured facts, mcfarm!
In the real world, we can bust that to smithereens with 1 word: TARIFFS!
Increasing inflation(Fox won't tell you about how its LATER THIS YEAR, when they get passed on and have most impact-which I've been saying from the beginning but you ignore). Weakening economy with lost jobs. Last time I checked, those aren't the stellar indicators you cheer about.
Wrecking long lived, free trading agreements that are positive for both sides with our trading partners. Causing our business with other countries to BE LOST!!! This is indisputable. Trump's tariffs and penalties on other countries (and their response with tariffs on our stuff) cause other countries to REPLACE US with new agreements and business with other countries.
You can't comprehend that because your sources refuse to tell you the truth and you want to believe in the "infallible Trump" fairy tale. However, a perfect example that impacts you more than anybody are soybean sales to China.
China is normally our biggest buyer of soybeans, you know that better than anybody. The tariffs are the only reason that we've sold ZERO soybeans to China since Trump announced his insane tariffs on China and they reciprocated.
The price of soybeans that our farmers would be getting right now, would likely be $1/bushel higher if not for Trump's tariffs. All the beans NOT sold to China from our country have been coming from Brazil/Argentina, where China has been willing to pay MORE for the beans than the prices they could buy them at from the United States.
That's because China is smart and knows that Trump's tariffs are hurting the United States even more than his country. In fact, most of the world knows this, which is why Trump's 90 deals in 90 days promise was a joke.
Where are all these great deals????
Now, instead of telling that truth about a massive failure to make deals, Trump's people talk up the amount of tariffs being collected.
But who pays those tariffs?
American companies pay that tariff on goods they buy. It hurt American companies. Then, they have no choice but to pass on their increasing costs from paying tariffs to consumers. As expected, this is taking numerous months to work thru the economy as many US companies have been working off of inventory from earlier this year.
This is the main reason the Fed has not lowered interest rates to stimulate the weakening Trump economy.
That isn't speculation and just an opinion, mcfarm. It's indisputable math and basic economic principles at home and with our trading partners. Free trade is good for everybody.
For a guy that promised less government, the tariffs schemes is the biggest government overreach in global economic history.
And his promise to give more power to the states with less Fed. government control/interference. Can you say National Guard.
What are your comments about Trump's words in 2020 and his violated promises to get elected, mcfarm?
Please, no Fox news false narratives. Tell me how producer, mcfarm and his hard working/risk taking fellow farmers feel about losing so much money because of the $1/bushel lower selling price for their soybeans, entirely because of Donald Trump's ruinous tariffs.
This is just 1 tiny example of 1 product. Multiply that by many hundreds of products and many dozens of countries that are being substantively damaged(from both sides) and the damage is enormous!!!
Seriously, mcfarm. US producers could really miss out during the key selling season but those lost sales to our farmers so far are forever. They can never be made up. That's less money in the pockets/bank accounts OF EVERY PRODUCER that sells soybeans in the United States right now.
What is your comment on that and Trump's comments in 2020, please.
Trump deploys National Guard to D.C.
By metmike - Aug. 28, 2025, 9:02 p.m.
I will tell you the very same thing I did months ago when we started down this road. America has been abused by foreign countries for decades. America's politicians have sold us out for decades. American citizens decided months ago to bare the pain of tariffs to bring about more fair trade. Yes it is painful but so was WW II to a much greater degree and what did Americans do.....they sacrificed for the good of the country. they did sit round and whine about things. By the way we are at near full employment. The gdp is over 3. The boogey man is not around every corner. You do not work for msnbc and their 12 people audience.
So in my particular business I get by with less labor help, more hours, older equipment ,less tillage, more repairs, better management and marketing except when I screw up. Corn was up 12 today. I will take that and pray for a better price when I sell.
Thanks very much for your take, mcfarm!

Key information about the Chicago Police Department in 2021:
AI Overview
+1
The number of Chicago police officers hired in 2024 is not explicitly stated, though the city had a significant number of budgeted positions, including 1,150 fewer officers than budgeted and a substantial deficit of 1,000 vacant positions. Chicago Police Department's 2024 budget reflected a net reduction in overall positions and a decrease in standard police officers, while increasing specialized roles and detectives.
Here's a breakdown of the available information:
Cutworm, you have identified a profoundly significant problem that must be resolved before Chicago has any hope of getting better control of their unacceptably high crime rate.
It appears as if people don’t want that job and who can blame them.
Usually, in a situation like that, providing more incentives will increase the number of people that will do the job.
Offer more pay for instance. Money talks. Push harder with their hiring campaign by creating positivity and appreciation for police work in the minds of people living in Chicago-land!
People that want to make Chicago safer or a better place by joining a police force that is respected by their communities!
Have events for those communities that express that In some way.
People do jobs for money but they also do them for a sense of accomplishment and for being appreciated. Chicago needs a talented cop recruiter in charge that has the resources to put all that together in a way which makes being a cop in the Windy City much more appealing!
Thats the difference between bringing in the national guard for a brief not sustainable period of time, which is getting some really bad press and NOT wanted by the majority of people and PERMANENTLY hiring local men and women, trained to do just this that live there and are strongly appreciated by their communities vast majority.
The contrast couldn’t be greater and along with it, the likelihood of success that lasts. In the case of cops.
You nailed this one, cutworm!
