Trump, unsurprisingly plans to exploit the shutdown to serve his needs. Increasing his already abusive/excessive, Constitution busting power.

Weaponizing it to apply more punishment to the side that he professed hate for, of all times....... during the eulogy of Charlie Kirk.

Nothing is too low for President Trump. From picking up under age girls for sex with his BEST FRIEND, Jeffrey Epstein in the late 1980's, 1990's to early 2000's,  to the 2025 most powerful man in the world.........abusing his power to inflict pain and suffering on the half of Americans that he hates to withdrawing hundreds of billions to help the less fortunate in our world, there is nothing too despicable for this morally bankrupt person.

How Trump could use a government shutdown to turbocharge his economic agenda

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/how-trump-could-use-a-government-shutdown-to-turbocharge-his-economic-agenda-171741596.html

"A lot of good can come down from shutdowns," Trump offered Tuesday evening as the deadline loomed, adding "we can get rid of a lot of things that we didn't want, and they'd be Democrat things."

One shutdown day surprise came Wednesday from Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought, who posted plans to put roughly $18 billion infrastructure funding for New York City on hold.

As the Trump administration insists it is serious about negotiating an end to the government shutdown, a pair of racist deepfake videos mocking Democratic leaders played on a loop in the White House briefing room for hours on Wednesday.

The videos, posted by Trump on his social media platform on Monday, use fabricated audio to make it seem as if the Senate minority leader, Chuck Schumer, called Democrats “woke pieces of shit”, and showed the House minority leader, Hakeem Jeffries, with a fake mustache and sombrero.

This president is not qualified to remain is his current position. He displays blatant disqualifying traits EVERY SINGLE DAY! The Rs in Congress not only enable him, they give him constant positive reinforcement.

Unfortunately, Americans will need to wait until November 2026 to finally get some justice. That's a long time for Trumps worsening, UNTREATED AND IN FACT REINFORCED mental illness and dementia to damage the people of our country and the world as the most powerful man on the planet.

Trump celebrating the government  shut down seems incredibly odd, ok maybe not for Trump but it means the Epstein files can’t be released. Maybe that’s the best part for him and the Rs that seem determined to NOT negotiate anything.

Why some Republicans are getting cold feet about Trump’s shutdown layoff threats

https://www.cnn.com/2025/10/02/politics/republicans-trump-shutdown-layoffs-analysis

The speaker’s statement highlights what seems to be unease among some Republicans about the Trump administration’s rather blatant efforts to politically weaponize a shutdown.

++++++++++++++++++++

Trump's insanity is becoming increasingly damaging to the Rs. Their only choice is to come to an agreement with Ds to limit the damage Trump, who only blindly thinks about his self serving interests, which includes HATING democrats and punishing what he considers his enemies, which is an increasing list of anybody that opposes him.

I am starting to think that Trump may not  be able to finish his 2nd term because he is becoming increasingly unhinged and dangerous.

+++++++++++++

There are 100+ important items for Congress to be concerned with on any given day. The government shutdown is extremely important but only the 2nd most important for Congress because #1 stands alone at the top and will always be #1!

#1. The elections in November 2026! What Trump is doing right now with his actions to weaponize the government shut down is without a doubt costing the Rs more votes in the 2026 election.

The no brainer solution would be for them to negotiate and give the Ds most of what they want on this 1 issue.

1. It makes the Rs look good because the Rs will have stopped the government shut down.

2. It stops the increasing damage to their party(from this issue) from an out of control, completely unhinged R president that acts out of hatred, revenge, self serving interests and pathological, delusions of grandeur thinking that is escalating with his rapidly advancing dementia.

Senate fails to pass bill to keep essential federal workers and troops paid throughout government shutdown – live

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2025/oct/23/trump-san-francisco-federal-agents-white-house-ice-immigration-latest-news-updates

Republicans won both houses and the White House in November so they either had the votes to pass everything they wanted and sadly, gave up their power to a reckless president who is practicing an authoritarian regime, while constantly violating the Constitution, while acting illegally in numerous realms to impose personal Trump, self serving agenda with impunity.

However, the Rs Don't have the votes they need to pass this (BAD)  spending bill, like they did to pass their FAKE Big(NOT) Beautiful Bill.

So what do reasonable people do to get the needed votes when they are short votes and have to motivate the other side to come on board?

THEY NEGOTIATE. In this case, the Ds represent at least 50% of the country and what they are asking for is  not just reasonable but it's actually profoundly good for over 10 million Americans that will be royally screwed by the Rs if the Ds don't take a stand here.

Instead of negotiating, the Rs (kowtowing to King Trump) are insisting that they want EVERYTHING, despite not having the votes this time. Not budging an inch. 100% R agenda, 0% D agenda. 100% MAGA agenda, 100% Trump agenda and screw everybody else.

Not surprising since Trump brags about how much he hates Americans that didn't vote for him.

Instead of being everybody's  president and being the president of THE UNITED STATES, Trump is the president of MAGA as he intentionally tries to punish and hurt non MAGA Americans.

Not just ignore their needs but actually, go out of his way to vindictively and intentionally HURT non MAGA Americans!

Government shutdowns in the United States

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_shutdowns_in_the_United_States

In the United States, government shutdowns occur when funding legislation required to finance the federal government is not enacted before the next fiscal year begins, and as a result, the federal government curtails agency activities and services, ceases non-essential operations, furloughs non-essential workers, and retains only essential employees in departments that protect human life or property.[1][2] Shutdowns can also disrupt state, territorial, and local levels of government.

+++++++++++++++

Playing a game of chicken to see who finally capitulates first won't work with Trump(who controls the Rs in Congress). The Ds are feeling the pressure from the pain of Americans that are suffering from the shutdown and that pain continues to grow every day.

Trump is RELISHING THE PAIN of poor Americans and actually piling on with delight. Exploiting the shut down for his own personal agenda to punish Americans that did not vote for him.

++++++++

As shocking as the reads, it defines this vindictive president that brags about hating the people that didn't vote for him and  don't support him. Abusing his power to enrich those that adulate him and crush those that don't, while making Donald Trump the biggest benefactor of his decisions.

And the wealthy  people who control the stock market are thanking him for his agenda to enrich them even more while sending powerful positive reinforcement signals.

As long as the stock market is making new highs and signaling to President Trump that they like what he's doing for them, which includes NOT negotiating to open the government back up,  he will NEVER give the Rs permission to negotiate.

So either the Ds cave or it gets SO bad that the stock market tanks, which is the indicator that Trump uses.

And the stock market obviously loves the shut down right now, making record highs the past 2 sessions while the damage from the shut down is starting to crush more and more people that are NOT part of the rich people's self fulfilling prophesy/ponzi scheme.

If this should go long enough, the consequences will even start impacting rich people too. Only then will Trump care to negotiate. Seems unlikely that it will get that bad but with these leaders in congress, we can't rule it out.

Maybe the question should be:

How long does the shut down need to go before the stock market cares?

In the past, that point would have long passed. But this is 2025. The markets are playing by Donald Trump and the rich peoples rules.

That will continue............until November 2026, after the non rich people speak in the election and  fire dozens of Rs in Congress for hurting them so badly. The House WILL gain a majority. The Senate will lose seats and might lose the majority.

I think one area of the economy that might add a little pressure to the negotiating  landscape is flight delays and cancellations.   If air traffic controllers don't get paid, many of them start taking "sick days".  (This has happened in previous shutdowns). Wealthy, as well as middle class folks, don't like being stuck in airports.  I was planning on a trip in January, but I won't buy airline tickets until the government opens.  I'm sure that I'm not alone in that behavior.

There seems to be very little chance that Trump will give the Rs in Congress permission to negotiate.

One would think that Americans feeling the pain and blaming him would be a motivator but to his pathological thinking, the Americans feeling the most pain are his enemy and he views this as wonderful punishment to them for not voting for him.

The only way he will give permission to the Rs to negotiate is if the rich people start feeling serious pain.

If this goes long enough and triggers a recession and the stock market crashes........that might happen. That's one of the only ways to try to motivate Donald Trump. Otherwise, he's in his own delusional world that interprets himself as infallible and does things to make Donald Trump look great, while rewarding people that help him to accomplish that(in his mind).

Americans suffering from the shut down, in his deranged mind accomplish 2 things good for his agenda:

1. Allow him to take actions that make it even worse on D Americans to punish them.

2. Allow him to make the Ds in Congress(his mortal enemy) the scapegoat.

Thanks, cutworm!

A lot of other people feel that way too.

It's mostly Rs that think its the Ds fault and Ds that think it's the Rs fault.

I get that the Rs have the majority in both houses and the White House which empowers them to, if they want pass everything that favors ONLY THE R PARTY if they want to because they have that power.

Even though half the country does not belong to the R party.

So it's 100% for the Rs and 0% for the D because they have the votes to do that by voting entirely by party affiliation.

However, they DON'T have the votes here on this key issue. Even voting via party line, they DON'T have the votes.

But they want things to be like they do have the votes and get 100% of the R agenda passed.

But they DON'T have the votes to pass this and need some D votes. So their tactic is to NOT negotiate to get the votes, which is the reasonable thing to do but instead to blame the Ds for not voting for it because the Ds actually have some power they are exercising to get something for the 50% of people getting screwed by the R majority in Congress in 2025 because the Rs have the votes they need in those cases.

So the R position is that they have the majority and Trump is also telling them to use that power to give the Ds nothing on anything, even though half the country is vehemently opposed to this position and in this case will be incredibly damaged if the Ds don;t get what they are asking for.

In the end, this just turns into each side providing a spin to try to blame the other side and the Rs are convinced of the complete opposite as the Ds about who's fault it is.

My position is a rational one based on what is fair and reasonable.

fair and reasonable? MM, you really think its fair for Rs to be expected vote for the mess of more Obama care and paying illegals to break our laws and invade this country? sure that ought to fly. How about fair for the Ds to vote for the CR that has already been talked to death. Then we get to late Nov to argue the rest. Ordinary people get paid (like my wife} now working every day with no pay check. The Ds have no off ramp at this juncture. The got the radical left barking and they are scared to confront the far left. I think most have figured out there are few D's left only radicals.

Thanks very much and welcome back, mcfarm!

1. I don't think that it's radical to help poor people get health care. It's should be the right of every human being that lives in the richest country in the world.

2. This isn't about illegals, mcfarm. It's about fellow United States citizens that were born here and have the same rights that you and me have.......except they can't afford health care, which SHOULD be a right for all of our citizens. The richest country in the world but we can't provide basic health care for our poor people that can't come close to paying for the highest costing healthcare in the world?

3. Wait until late November to continue this debate? You mean when the Ds have 0 bargaining power and the Rs don't need their votes? In an environment where almost 100% of the time this year, when the Rs had the votes to ignore the Ds, that's exactly what they did.

mcfarm and others here:

What is it that you object so strongly to for lower income, Americans that might love our country as much as you but can't afford health care.........getting it subsidized or for free?

Or for hospitals to be reimbursed when they save the life(because it's the law and that's what doctors do)  of an illegal alien that has no place to go for emergency treatment????

Is it because you worked hard for your money and begrudge others, that were less fortunate,  the same things because they haven't worked as hard as you(so they don't deserve it)?

Is it because you were blessed with good fortune and can pay for good insurance or like me are on Medicare which covers 80% and don't care about less fortunate people?

Is it because the Rs, Fox News, MAGA and Trump have this position and you align with them and whatever their agenda is?

Is it because those entities lied to you about the amount of this going to illegal immigrants?

To me, being a good Samaritan entails viewing the entire, big picture of the human condition, not just donating to a charity or lending a helping hand to a person in need.

There is nothing that contributes more to the human condition than health care.

Below is my favorite parable from Jesus, The Good Samaritan from the Gospel of Luke.

We all know it whether we are Christians or not. Sometimes, we fail to appreciate many ideal opportunities to apply it!

So, let’s begin with the original question posed by Jesus, who was the neighbor to the victim? Of course, the one who treated him with mercy. But what than is mercy? Mercy is an infesting word. It is derived from the Latin words miseria (wretchedness, misery, or affliction), and cor (heart). Thus, to have mercy for someone is to literally have a heart for the wretchedness or affliction of another. Said in another way, treating someone with mercy puts into practice the teaching of Jesus who taught “whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.”[12

If the characters and principles of the Good Samaritan parable were applied to the  current government shut down, who would be the the ones passing by the severely injured man on the side of the road that needed health care?

Who would be the Samaritan that took him to the hospital for treatment and paid for it out of their own pocket?

Which one of them seems more fair and reasonable (ethical/compassionate) when treating less fortunate human beings with regards to health care?

What's lost by one side in the debate of what party is responsible for the government shut down is WHAT the Ds are asking for and WHY they are asking for it.

Why the Rs consider it non negotiable is being twisted to justify it but the bottom line is its denying many millions of poor people health care in the richest country of the world even while the Rs pass laws to further enrich the most powerful, wealthy Americans.

Rewarding the segment that elected them/Trump.

Punishing the segment that voted against them/Trump.

+++++++++++++++

They CAN do this because they have the power in the White House and Congress. In fact, they ARE doing it.

Just because you have the power to do something doesn't make it right. Or make it ethical or compassionate.

Congress is not known for having any of those character traits.

Americans know it too!

https://news.gallup.com/poll/1600/congress-public.aspx

The spike higher was after 9-11-01.  People know that politicians are morally bankrupt, self serving people that are bought and paid for by entities like the military-industrial complex.

On this shut down, however for once, we have part of  Congress taking a stand on doing something right. Regardless of whether they are doing it for political reasons or not, they are on the RIGHT side when considering ethics, fairness and human rights.

Go ahead and blame them for that!  I would be proud to be blamed for taking a stand like that.

Probably a big part of the confusion and blame going to the Ds is that Donald Trump(and other Rs and Fox)  are telling people that this is to fund health care for illegal immigrants.

He accused Democratic Congressional members of suffering from "Trump Derangement Syndrome, saying they are all  "Crazed Lunatics that have lost all sense of WISDOM and REALITY."

"They want Trillions of Dollars to be taken from our Healthcare System and given to others, who are not deserving — People who have come into our Country illegally, many from prisons and mental institutions," Trump wrote. Michael, Notice i did not refer to you as MetMike, because you are way off your expertise in this thread

I have had education pounded to me as the first born, eventually EARNING a law degree, have practiced in my home town for almost 50 years, ENJOY great health, BLESSED with children and grandchildren, given back as a high school board member AND contribute to my Church and LOCAL charities, as well as paying required (but excessive and poorly administered) taxes for decades -- BUT...I am sick of Illinois high taxes, US funding ILLEGALS (not the poor), despise the 4 years of obama's crap during four years of biden and truly enjoy sticking it to the donkeys the past ten months as sanity prevails (except in Ill, Ca, NY, Mi, and Colo)

As an educated, formerly hard working, and fiscally motivated individual who gives back by coaching Youth (must be most rewarding), how can you not appreciate a return to Christian values and fiscal sanity?  I know, Trump is/can be intolerable, but praising a third term of obummer by a mentally infirmed and challenged president, whose family should be prosecuted for monetary interference with proper government, should not be tolerated by any American!

DOES the USA citizenry OWE comfort to the less fortunate?  Yes.  BUT NOT by monthly funding from an underfunded governmental agency (Social Security) to noncitizens, nor non-temporary checks with no thought of seeking genuine employment to anyone, nor payment to NONcitizens who violated our LAWS to obtain entrance into OUR UNITED STATES (blessed by a former president's PERSONAL disruptive immigratory policy), nor by any Agency, other than nongovernmental, which knows how to properly administer aid without a highly paid bureaucracy.

Michael, I accept your commitment to be charitable, but it MUST be to the CITIZENS of THE UNITED STATES!

We enjoy the right to disagree, but I contend governmental payments should be ONLY for the citizens of our Country or those properly vetted for citizenship, not for those merely occupying ITS borders.  The pretext for one party to disenfranchise United States citizens by open borders and improper, non vetted occupancy WITH fiscal irresponsibility to the US taxpayer should not be accepted.

Thanks very much, tjc.

As I always say, my favorite posts are those that disagree with me and that one certainly does.

I greatly enjoy reading/hearing from other people and listen intently to what they have to say, especially when they disagree so I can understand WHY they disagree.

You made it crystal clear what YOUR reasons to disagree are.

Just to let you know, NOT using my handle metmike and referring to me as Michael  instead because I only deserve that handle in fields where I qualify by your standard,  tells us much more about your mindset then it does about my qualifications to have an opinion that's different than yours.

But that's why I love other opinions, which includes how they express them. To understand  and respect ALL people here, especially when they don't want my opinions.

I do appreciate your points with an understanding of why but am guessing you must not be listening to mine or you wouldn't have made your points.

I expressed my great displeasure with Biden's profoundly broken open border policy with dozens of posts here and literally hundreds that attacked Biden.  It was a big part of the reason that I was NEVER Biden/Harris.

However, human beings that are already here and NOT breaking laws, whether they are on their way out or not are human beings.  We send tens of billions to other countries to help the less fortunate because we are the richest country in the world.

Anger and frustration at what Biden did is misplaced when targeting human beings that came here to have a better life and work harder at crap, low paying jobs than most Americans will do. They CHOOSE America.

Ironically, I think that most immigrants appreciate our country more than native born Americans because they experienced the difference. You and me just got lucky because we were born here. I don't take my great fortune for granted and am not selfish about it.

Even if the solution is to deport millions of these people back to where they came from, they are still human beings during their temporary stay here.

Don't you agree?

And what about the majority of people getting these benefits that are US citizens?

Your friend, metmike!

tjc,

I realize this is probably a waste of time for you (but maybe not) because you obviously get your information from sources that tell you what you want to hear and to believe in but it doesn't mean I shouldn't try.

Trump is lying his arse off about this as he does so many things but mere authentic facts are never going to make even a tiny dent in what his supporters believe.

I always learn something when doing open minded, objective research on topics so at least somebody does.

Teachable moment

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teachable_moment

A teachable moment, in education, is the time at which learning a particular topic or idea becomes possible or easiest.

+++++++++++++++++++===

Why did tjc so strongly reject posts that contradict what he wants to believe in but likes posts that confirm his version of the world?

I'll answer that with a post to mcfarm last year:

Re: Re: anyone even check the markets anymore?

                          By metmike - Aug. 5, 2024, 7:56 p.m.

Your definition of a positive contribution and mine are much different mcfarm!

I know what a big part of the problem is.

You spend too much time listening to far right news sources, that are intentionally designed to create outrage in viewers/listeners(targeting people that go there to be told things they wish were true), so they will hate and oppose people who have a different political affiliation.

I actually watch Fox news alot, I'm not judging something I don't actually see for several hours each week.

You will reject this OBJECTIVE authentic observation but that's how it is at this ANTI echo chamber.

I use and show authentic FACTS not emotions.

I'm well aware that people in 2024 don't want this.

Everything shows that they are all tuning into echo chambers that tell them what they want to hear/read because that's how you make money in 2024. That's how you increase traffic and followers.

Appealing to one side, while attacking people from the other side is how you become successful in politics, the media, forums and elsewhere in the year 2024.

metmike?

I'll continue to stick with the objective, authentic truths from both sides and debunk the fraud, junk science, fake news and charlatans selling it.

I wouldn't have it any other way, even if somebody offered me a million dollars to sell snake oil here from one political side.

And everybody's opinions are welcome, especially to challenge anything I state, so that I can learn new things and immediately make adjustments to dial that in to my views.

Your opinion in this thread is part of that too . However, it would greatly help your case, if that opinion came with something more substantive but, that's on you, mcfarm.

The more people we listen to, the more opinions we consider, the more facts that we have from BOTH sides..... the more authentic our discernment will be!

+++++++++++++++

I don't know exactly what sources tjc uses but that doesn't matter. The points above are profound in this age of closed minded people that have their views constantly bolstered and reinforced by going to sources that tell them what they want to read/hear.  The purpose of this particular post is to genuinely turn the lights on in the heads of those that practice this method, not to offend or attack(use as an example-yes). For others, you already understand this.

Good afternoon Mike

Obviously we have sparked a difference of opinion on the topic of , more or less, free health care to noncitizens.

I certainly appreciate your extensive list of posts, which show no bias on your part, many actually in SUPORT my position.  Well done Moderator!

Other than we are a rich nation, what is your rationale for spending taxpayer money for noncitizens?

Not only do I object to spending my money for noncitizens, I also object to a feebleminded leader and his irrational followers in effect determining for whom I wish to contribute my charitable  gifts. Moreover, I am very much concerned that these freebees overwhelm the health care staffs and in so doing prohibit care for citizens.

Whatever happened to a legitimate immigration policy that had a vetting mechanism complete with required sponsorship which guaranteed a newly entered individual would not be a burden to the taxpayer?  (Vote harvesting?)

Thank you for leading this discussion.

Thanks very much tjc!

I got that the first time and appreciate it.

You seem to be focusing on trying to win an argument that you are convinced you are right about.

If you actually read my last posts, I've gone on from that because perpetually regurgitating the same things between 2 parties that disagree accomplishes nothing.

Instead, I'm doing what I love most...........using analysis and suggestions to MOVE FORWARD.

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/115006/#115646

https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/115006/#115648

I intentionally never mentioned the original topic in those last 2 posts because I already made my points crystal clear and you made yours.

But you want to stay on it and argue more about it.

Why?

You are welcome to do that if you want, tjc but I already made all my relevant points and you rejected them. I've moved on. This is another teachable moment as mentioned earlier.

Part of me being here for free is to try to learn new things at every opportunity and to share them. Everybody has free will and can do what they want with that. I am wrong sometimes and find those are sometimes the best times for me to learn things with an open mind.

I voted for Trump in 2024 because  I opened my mind to his promise to end the Ukraine war fast and was a NEVER Biden/Harris vote in 2024 and my wife guilt tripped me into voting to set a good example here. I defended Trump thru much of his first term because the justice departments and media really were attacking him egregiously and illegally in some cases.

You will agree with all that. However, like I've mentioned to mcfarm, when I adjust based on the objective, authentic facts which is the only thing that matters to me, suddenly I'm on the complete opposite side of MAGA which has an extreme, tunnel vision view of the world based on whatever Trump tells them.

That's how it is based on all the authentic facts. I'm not here to tell people what they wish was true. Stone cold truths based on verifiable, authentic facts. That's what matters the most.

Those always change/are adjusted immediately if somebody shows me i have it wrong or they have better, more updated information. I am always looking for reasons to learn and adjust my views.

But not get into pointless arguments with completely closed minded MAGA people who won't even read what I post or respond to the actual points in the posts and just want to keep repeating their same opinions as if it accomplishes something.

Neither political party has a franchise on the truth.

If you believe one party all thetime......................you will believeinliessomeofthetime.

  ++++++++++++++++=

Nobody is telling you how to post, tjc that's your choice.

However, the moderator will do an objective analysis of your posting and not get into the pointless argument you think you can win based on your flawed OPINION. I already corrected the flaws with authentic data/information but you totally ignored it, which proves my position that a discussion with you on this topic is a complete dead end.

Thanks, very much John!

I'm not under any illusion that pretends that tens of millions of MAGA/Rs don't  feel this way and some of them are here.

I totally respect everybody here, especially those that disagree with me because it doesn't take as much love or patience/tolerance to respect somebody that you agree with already and I choose that over hate and intolerance of people that disagree with me.

Your friend always,

Nearly 42 million Americansreceive food stamps, providing households just over $350 a month, on average, as of May, according to the most recent USDA data.

President Trump continues his war against less fortunate AMERICAN CITIZENS because he hates them and wants to punish them for not voting for him. Even while he rewards the most wealthy in our country that voted for him and contribute to his personal political funding.

Fact checking a viral chart on US food stamps recipients’ race, ethnicity

US Department of Agriculture data reveals most recipients are white, US-born citizens, followed by minorities.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/10/29/fact-checking-a-viral-chart-on-us-food-stamps-recipients-race-ethnicity

The same report found that 89.4 percent of SNAP recipients were US-born citizens, meaning less than 11 percent of SNAP participants were foreign-born. Of the latter figure, 6.2 percent were naturalised citizens, 1.1 percent were refugees and 3.3 percent were other noncitizens, including lawful permanent residents and other eligible noncitizens.

How Many Migrants Use Food Stamps in America? SNAP Benefits Data Analyzed

https://www.newsweek.com/how-many-migrants-use-food-stamps-america-snap-benefits-data-analyzed-10949904

"We focus on monetary amounts because that is what matters for budgeting. In the administrative data, immigrants were also 38 percent less costly to SNAP than other residents," he added.

USDA defines a non-citizen as any individual residing in the United States who is not a natural-born or naturalized citizen. This includes lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees and individuals granted a stay of deportation. Those with legal status may be eligible for SNAP, while individuals without legal status are generally ineligible, though U.S.-born children or other eligible household members in their households may still receive assistance.

The total cost of SNAP benefits in FY 2023 was $119.6 billion, according to a 2023 report by the USDA across the program. The 1.764 million non-citizen participants accounted for roughly 4.8 percent of total spending.

Federal judge rules Trump must fully fund SNAP program by Friday

'People have gone without for too long,' the judge said Thursday.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/federal-judge-rules-trump-must-fully-fund-snap-program-by-friday

A federal judge in Rhode Island on Thursday ordered the Trump administration to fully fund the nation's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food aid program by Friday, rejecting the administration's effort to only partially fund the benefits program for some 42 million low-income Americans.

"People have gone without for too long," U.S. District Judge Jack McConnell said in court Thursday.

He scolded the Trump administration for failing to comply with the order he issued last week, which required the U.S. Department of Agriculture to fund the SNAP benefits programs before its funds were slated to lapse on Nov. 1 — marking the first time in the program's 60-year history that its payments were halted.

+++++++++++++++

I already made my points crystal clear earlier and will try to follow my own advice and try to stick with reporting the news and authentic facts with minimal opinions that disagree with others on this topic..........unless NEW facts emerge but that likely won't change our opinions on this.

This is a unique topic because it transcends politics from its great impact on our economy, entire government and an increasingly massive number of Americans. ......some people more than others, so it's a trading forum thread.

This Psychological Term Explains How GOP Officials Justify Harm

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/this-psychological-term-explains-how-gop-officials-justify-harm/ar-AA1Q5rmP

It’s all an attempt to maintain a sense of moral or procedural purity in the face of the damage they’ve wrought.

And there’s a term that captures this very phenomenon: violent innocence.

“Violent innocence is a term that posits that a person or institution can cause significant harm while remaining morally ambiguous and/or seemingly ‘unaware’ that they are causing it,” Alexandra Cromer, a licensed therapist with Thriveworks, told HuffPost.

The concept was primarily outlined in a book by psychoanalyst Christopher Bollas, who referred to it as an aggressive “form of denial.”

“The violent innocent sponsors affective and ideational confusion in the other, which he then disavows any knowledge of ― this being the true violation,” he wrote, noting how people who engage in this behavior sow confusion and isolation.

When leaders choose not to release contingency or emergency funds to maintain SNAP benefits during a government shutdown ― and then claim their hands are tied ― that’s a form of violent innocence. The insistence on purity or procedure functions as a moral shield, obscuring the real-world consequences of inaction. Families go without food assistance, yet decision-makers frame their choice as unavoidable.

got to wonder how we could trust these numbers by a bloated government that freely admits to billions of waste in this program. Charity is great but should be mostly private. Common sense 101. They cn identify some who have been on this program for 40 years. That is not a hand up that is a life stye and we need to admit it and correct it.

Thanks, mcfarm!

I agree that there is tons of abuse and waste which needs to be cut. For sure we should do that.

However, the solution isn't to cut tens of millions of  AMERICANS off all at once or suddenly with only  50% to punish people depending on it to live via exploiting a government shutdown.

Of the potential options, that one is the most wrong by a galaxy wide margin!

++++++++++++++

Doing such a thing tells us MUCH more about the mega elite, very few in number but having the power to chose that option than it does about the millions of those with 0 power, some of which are abusing the system!

Thanks, mcfarm!

People voted for Trump and loaded Congress with Rs to vehemently reject the Biden/Harris ruinous regime.

Trump and the Rs are blowing it big with their power(mainly Congress giving their power to Trump and Trump abusing it).

Only in MAGA world is that not so and because MAGA is in denial, they are driving straight towards the train wreck instead of away from it led by Donald Trump.

It doesn't matter what you think or I think. The majority of Americans will speak on November 3, 2026.

Again, I voted for Trump in 2024 and also 2016  and want him and the Rs to be successful. Somebody with TDS would never do that.

I want our country to be successful the most and that MUST include more than just rich people and MAGA being happy.  Regardless of whether you think that Rs are rescuing America from socialism or communism and see them as saviors, the bottom line will always be:

Are the majority of Americans doing well?

Is the economy and inflation and their jobs rewarding enough for them to be living the American dream?

If the answer is no, then that majority will vote AGAINST the party in charge of current policies, regardless of what form of government we have and that party deserves to be fired.

If the answer is yes. They should be elected to new terms.

Trump (and the Rs) completely manufacture fake booming economic verbiage to the point of it being farcical. .

I get that we have some here that believe in this fantasy and many millions more in the country. That doesn't make it real. Everybody has a right to believe in what they want, even when its dead wrong but I will do everything possible to present objective truths here.

Democratic lawmakers reel after Senate votes to reopen government: 'Republican-made healthcare crisis'

Senate Minority Leader Schumer voted against continuing resolution as Sanders warns 15M could lose Medicaid

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/democratic-lawmakers-reel-senate-votes-reopen-government-republican-made-health-care-crisis

+++++++++++=

Rs are celebrating this as a win because the Ds gave in and OPENED THE GOVERNMENT.

The majority of people, however will use it as an additional reason to vote AGAINST the Rs next November because of them intentionally exploiting the shut down to punish Americans who get SNAP money and worst of all, the Rs refusing to budge an inch and force the worst healthcare bill in history on tens of millions of Americans who will now be suffering much more in November 2026  because the Rs would not do anything to change the catastrophic healthcare system.

Guess what the Ds will be using ahead of the November 2026 elections?

Yep!

The Rs could have prevented that completely by just budging a bit and negotiating. Now, they will pay an even heavier price for this ahead of the 2026 elections. This will be part of the battle cry for non MAGA people that vote in record numbers for a mid term election to throw out the bums who not just lacked empathy but actually targeted Americans to hurt them because they were ordered by Trump to do it in November 2025.

And that's exactly what happened, so it will be100% factual.

Yes, this might be true for next week and for some time. But just wait until we approach the November 2026 elections when THE RECORDS OF EACH PARTY are scrutinized intensely.

There is always all sorts of mud slinging ahead of elections but in this case, the mud hitting the Rs  will be loaded with truth dynamite.
