The latest air strike took place in the Caribbean Sea, amid growing concerns about human rights violations under Trump.
“International law does not permit the unilateral use of force abroad to fight terrorism or drug trafficking,” UN human rights specialists, including Ben Saul, wrote in response to the strikes.
Under the Constitution, Congress has the exclusive power to authorise military action, though it has, in the past, issued “authorisations for the use of military force” or AUMFs for the president to conduct specific attacks.
Critics say those authorisations have been increasingly used to justify unilateral decisions by US presidents to launch military campaigns.
Faced with the reporter’s question about seeking Congress’s go-ahead, Trump was unequivocal: He needed no such approval.
“This is a national security problem,” he said, claiming the drug trade had killed 300,000 US citizens over the past year. “And that gives you legal authority.”
Those statistics are not supported by US government data, however. Provisional data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that there have been 73,690 overdose deaths in the US for the 12-month period ending in April.
If, as Trump has claimed, every bombed boat saves 25,000 US lives, that number would be 250,000 instead.

2. This is akin to a declaration of war on the half a dozen countries(so far) where these people are from. Our Constitution requires that Congress grant approval for declare of war on other countries.

5. I get that most of the boats were likely carrying drugs somewhere. However, this tactic, with 100% certainty is going to kill some innocent people. Especially considering that Trump's people and Trump are blatantly incompetent. Note the profound evidence of that in Trump's last quote above. To justify doing this, he provides a statistic above that is underlined that is in the Outer Limits, blatantly wrong. A grade school kid can look up those statistics and get them right but not him. And we are supposed to just "TRUST HIM" on everything else related to this and assume that he has all that right???
If you knew somebody that can't do basic arithmetic, would you trust them to be your accountant?
How about the complete inability to calculate or repeat basic statistics about drugs and deaths caused by them and where they are coming from, being the judge, jury and executioner of people that he claims are part of his flawed statistics?
