Happy New Year, mc!

But how is cleaning up other people’s messes consistent with America 1st/not getting involved in other countries’ problems?

It proves indisputably that Trumps bombing all the boats and taking the oil tankers by force WERE JUST A RUSE!

This was his plan all along.  People with the authentic facts and not part of the MAGA cult know this was never about drugs. ZERO fentanyl comes from Venezuela, for instance.

The president of fake peace, that ends fake wars in magical mystery MAGA-land, continues to demonstrate that he's the polar opposite of that in the real world.

Even while he completely blunders and has wrecked his credibility on the most important war in Ukraine. The reason that I voted for him, although I didn't think he would end it in 24 hours as promised, I thought that he could end it much sooner than this. But he can't follow thru with any consistent strategies that might work.

Anyways, even though it was pretty clear that he wanted to do this in Venezuela from the get go, it doesn't make it any less illegal or any less outrageous or any less wrong.

Just another item to add to hundreds of items that prove that Donald Trump should be removed from office ASAP.

I hope y’all just watched former CIA Director John Brennan clearly communicate his valued insight as to this. He acknowledged a highly successful precise military operation to snatch the Maduros was made possible only with months of CIA operations for several months. However, his major concerns are these:

-But “What’s the day after plan?”

- Trump said “we’re going to run the country”. What does that mean?

- Rubio “said this was a law enforcement operation. That might have been the trigger for it, but it’s far, far more reaching than that in terms of what’s going to happen.”

- It’s clear based on Trump’s comments that it’s all about oil. If they didn’t have so much oil, this wouldn’t have occurred.

- “If they had just snatched Maduro and then told the Ven. people to now get your house in order, that would have been one thing. But this is about regime change.”

- He’s sure this will be condemned by many, including by some of our closest allles.

- “This is unprecedented in so many respects. People will draw analogies to what happened in Panama 35 years ago. But in that instance, there was a U.S. Marine killed before it happened, there was a large military presence under risk, and also Panama had declared war on us”. None of those is the case with this.

- He has no idea how US will run Ven. Boots on ground would likely be needed. He expects lots of opposition despite many being happy Maduro is gone. We know what they were against (Maduro), “but what are they for?” Many will be against what’s deemed American imperialism.

- “Building a democracy isn’t like a light switch that you can flip.”

- What signal does this send to China as regards Taiwan and Putin as regards to his invasion of Ukraine?

- Trump has said he kept us out of foreign wars and foreign adventures, which this is.

- This may cause Venez. terrorism against US troops/interests.

- Just because Maduro is out, that doesn’t mean that the Maduro cabinet members don’t want to retain their power/control. Complex!

Excellent report, Larry!

Especially appreciated as I'm trying to focus on putting together some comprehensive threads on climate, greenhouse gas warming and global ice this afternoon.........even though this one is mind boggling fascinating and I can't wait to post more on it.

This thread will most certainty get very long and we'll inevitably have additional threads because Trump just ignited  a very long lived controversial, constantly changing dynamic. A huge mess!

Will this benefit the US as we take control of their oil? Maybe. I'm betting Trump thinks so.

However, that is illegal. This blatantly violated International law, even if we don't get benefits.

This is  wrong for numerous reasons.

And now we have yet another thread on MarketForum that's all about Donald Trump and its not about a good thing that he's doing.

I'm all for this and speaking out, like you do too here, Larry.  Just saying that if you look at all the important discussions going on about important things in the world here in January 2026, Donald Trump has INTENTIONALLY, blatantly abused his position as the most powerful person in the world and pathological narcissism to create the dynamic that makes everything that he does, another tops news story.

This is just a big stage for Donald Trump to maximize his attention and impact/influence on the world.

Thanks, mcfarm,

Maduro was a bad leader, dictator that shouldn't be president, yep I agree with that.

So why doesn't Trump get rid of Putin who is 1 billion times worse, responsible for a million+ casualties and much more.

Or the president of North Korea? Or the many dozens of other dictatorships in countries with bad men leading?

Dictatorship Countries 2025

So why is Donald Trump NOT replacing the leaders of the other countries on the map above(yet)?

In other words, why has he been targeting Venezuela? Please, it's never been about drugs.  China and Mexico are responsible for more fentanyl and drug deaths in the United States(actually, Venezuela exports ZERO fentanyl)

Why doesn't  Donald Trump do this to those countries, if it was about drugs?  Or about democracy in Venezuala? Ironically, this was done by the 1 president in our country's 250 year history that would not accept the results of his own Democracy and his own Constitution. Rejecting the most proven election in history and in fact, committed crimes and had people commit crimes to try to overturn it! And 5 years later, Donald Trump is still trying to re-litigate his big loss in 2020.

Afghanistan, The Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Myanmar, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela are the other countries that President Donald Trump identified as major drug transit or major illicit drug producing countries.

Here's the reasons that Trump has targeted Venezuela:

1. Venezuela has more oil reserves than any other country in the world.

2. The US has the most powerful military in the world.

3. Venezuela and its leader had/have no military that can resist or fight back.

4. Donald Trump is the most powerful man in the world that controls the most powerful military.

5. Donald Trump does not respect the US Constitution, International Laws or any rules that define ethical behavior, including respect for other countries and human beings. He is motivated entirely by pathological thinking that sees himself as omnipotent with an objective of elevating his perceived greatness in the minds of the world.

6. This was predicted by many sources that understand Trump's deranged, morally bankrupt style of  ruling.

Venezuela has the world’s most oil: Why doesn’t it earn more from exports?

Venezuela holds the world’s largest proven oil reserves, more than five times more than the United States.

Thanks very much, mcfarm for keeping us updated with the MAGA view!

We appreciate this last  comment too, however:

1. It was WxFollower that made that post not MM.

2. I will clearly state my position on hate(and love) below as repeated 1,000 times here previously.

3. I graphically, use meme's here, sometimes for humor but more often to make VISUAL points that are much more powerful than just words.

4. To summarize the points below:

a). I don't hate Donald Trump. If he broke into my house and killed my wife that might not be the case but he's a pathologically thinking, morally bankrupt human being who has progressive dementia and far more uncontrolled, abusive power than any person in the world but I have much more EMPATHY for his many victims than hatred for Donald Trump.

b) I am using my position as moderator on MarketForum as a platform to speak out against this diabolical man(and other important things in the world).

c) I speak out with the objective TRUTHS, regardless of whether it's Donald Trump or the FAKE climate crisis and regardless of what people would prefer to read/hear based on what they want to be true.

d) Mostly importantly of all. I disagree RESPECTFULLY with people in my life. I will viciously attack Donald Trump to hold him accountable but this is nothing personal with MAGA or any other human being that I interact with, no matter who, when, where or what the topic is.

This especially applies to you, mcfarm. You are my friend even when you seem to reject my friendship over politics. I respect you as a human being. A fellow Hoosier. A sports lover.  A hard working, risk taking farmer.  A patriotic American. A family man. I'm  sincere about appreciating your views here because MarketForum is NOT an echo chamber. Even though I do my best to convince people of MY opinions on Donald Trump, climate change/CO2/trading and other stuff,  most importantly  MarketForum is for readers to be educated, informed and enlightened with ALL the information from ALL sides and decide what they want to believe themselves.

Look MM I really do not care how much you hate or the crazed resources you use to rationalize this hate "CNN and Brennan" being 2 sources only a  far left radical would ever consider.

So you when you sleep comfortably tonite you might want to atleast give a tip of the hat to all those servicemen who risk life and limb yesterday in bringing in the narco terrorist with a 50 million dollar bounty on his head. Imagine the complete skill and bravery of those military heros that went in with such accuracy force and skill that only 1 air craft took a hit and was able to complete the mission and only 2 soldiers injured. And if we saved one life or hundreds of thousands to threat of drugs, dictators, marxits it was damn well worth it most Americans would agree. So sleep well there as you mock the mission but yet take full advantage of the safety to our hemisphere.

Thanks very much, mcfarm!

I agree that we should be extremely grateful to all our brave soldiers (that constantly put themselves in harms way, risking their lives for our country) and the most powerful military in the world that allows us to sleep better at night.

However, I'm outraged that Donald Trump is abusing his power and ABUSING these brave soldiers and ABUSING our great military(and embarrassing our country)  to blatantly violate, crystal clearly stated International Laws for his SELF SERVING interests.

With an  "ends justifies the means" argument that claims the world is better off right now, there are many reasons that make this very wrong already stated. Let me restate them to make it even more clear to non mcfarm readers.

1. Powerful countries can't just remove leaders of weak countries for what ever reason they justify.

2. International Law

3  Trump made himself judge, jury and executioner to people he murdered on boats for his self serving agenda.

4. Innocent people WERE murdered in cold blood by Donald Trump for his self serving agenda.

5. Donald Trump ordered our great military to do blatantly illegal and immoral things. It TARNISHED OUR IMAGE AND THEIR IMAGE in the eyes of the world.

6. Donald Trump didn't do this because of the drugs. Donald Trump didn't do this for Democracy(he's the most anti Constitution, anti Democracy president in history-biggest example was his attempts to overturn the 2020 election that passed every single test and Donald Trump's Insurrection-most of the fraud was Donald Trump's fraud!!! and he's violated the Constitution with his power more times to count). Donald Trump did this because Venezuela has more oil reserves than any country in the world and because he's the most powerful man with the most powerful military.

We get that you hate Brennan. I  came down hard on him several times during Trump's first term for his lying about Trump and issues that we both agreed on back then.

However, Brennan isn't wrong all the time about everything. In this case, he made some great points that seem reasonable to me. Larry and metmike  are just trying to discuss points relevant to Trump taking over Venezuela, not re-litigating John Brennan's past.  I get that we are disagreeing on this 180 degrees and there's nothing any of us can say to change that.

However, there are other people with good points that don't belong to MAGA, far right or Fox News that could actually be worth you listening to.

You can post what you want of course and I understand where you're coming from, despite disagreeing with much of it on this particular topic. And you can respond  to other posters the way that you want but Larry has always greatly respected you and your posts, which for most reasonable people, results in respecting them back.

I'm saying this as your friend, mcfarm.

If you're entire objective is to come here to blow off steam and vent, being a troll that disrupts........then you're doing a wonderful job, congratulations.

But there's another  mcfarm that comes here who engages positively as a friend about sports, farming, weather or other topics, so I'm not going to pin the label from the past sentence on you.

You may be too old to want to change or listen to advice but if you want people to listen to you and respect you, it's best to be respectful of THEIR feelings and opinions. Even if you hate their source and disagree with everything they believe, at least  be respectful of their right to state THEIR SINCERE opinions.

Especially when they are treating you kindly and deserve the same respect.

Thanks in advance for at least considering those words.

Now that Trump has abducted the leader of Venezuela because he wants their oil, the United States can no longer take the high ground on Putin taking Ukraine. Or China taking Taiwan.

Or any more powerful country taking what they want from a less powerful country for any reason they use to justify it.

Trump trying to get Putin to stop and negotiate, after Trump just did this just destroyed the 3 iotas of credibility that he may have had left. Keep in mind that both Russia and China are close allies of Venezuela.

Until this happened, I was thinking that Trump's ruinous tariffs on much of the world was his biggest blunder(certainly belonging in the Hall of SHAME for big blunders in presidential history).

But now, with his pathological, extremely dangerous thinking and progressive dementia he has done something that could lead to so many bad things that it's likely to be even worst than his tariffs but in a different realm.

His thinking is completely deranged right now. I've been slowly increasing odds of him not not finishing this 2nd term and right now, this looks like a foregone conclusion, not even worth giving odds on.

This appears to be the biggest mistake of Donald Trump's life. Now, the world knows how serious he really is about making Greenland part of the United States(even suggesting he could use military force).

And serious about kicking the Palestinians out of Gaza, rebuilding it and inviting back in the people that he and his psychopathic partner in crime, Ben Netanyahu want to live there.

His deranged mind actually caused him to float the idea of making Canada our 51st state, greatly insulting what used to be our closest ally and a wonderful, WONDERFUL friendship that went back 150 years. But Donald Trump WRECKED IT.   The hate for him and our country around the world has spiked the past year and him kidnapping the president of Venezuela will make it even worse.

There is no question about it, The United States of America has become a rogue country under Donald Trump!

You may have noticed that most of my posting is based on metmike's opinions, along with authentic facts to back them up. I don't need Brennan or CNN or whoever to tell me the difference between what's right and what's really, REALLY, REALLY wrong and to know the exact very lengthy, authentic reasons for it!

But I'll add other opinions too now:

If the Rs in Congress have a lick of common sense and a bit of courage, they will use this to impeach President Trump(along with many dozens of other examples of him blatantly violating US and International laws, the Constitution and humanity with the most egregious  abuse of presidential powers in history.........by a wide margin.

They will rid their party of the biggest reason for people to vote for the D candidates as long as he is in office.

He is the best thing that ever happened to the opposite political party in the history of elections coming up.

Impeach Donald Trump ASAP.  It's not quite been a year with him in office and he's done more damage to his party and more damage to the world (outside of his psychopathic pals, Putin and Netanyahu) in my lifetime.

The International Criminal Court has outstanding arrest warrants out for Trumps psychopathic, dictator pals, Netanyahu and Putin. Why doesn’t a justice force go in to  their countries, like we just did to Venezuela's President  and arrest THEM, then  bring them to the US to try THEM for their thousands of  heinous crimes against humanity and violations of international laws, including proven genocide and unlawfully invading a country and confiscating  their land while resulting in over a million casualties?

The reason:

Countries with the strongest military’s  that have  psychopathic leaders that turn them  into rogue countries do what they want, which includes  violating International Laws, like Donal Trump just did because nobody, NOBODY can stop them!!!

They manufacture their own reasons and special rules and justifications to take what they want and, punish whomever they want for self serving agenda/interests, using and abusing their very powerful militarys to accomplish it by force!!!

These  morally bankrupt leaders, abuse  their  very powerful military's, using them to take what they want from countries that have weaker militarys. Do what they want, against international laws because their  tremendous unchecked power, combined with ZERO accountability means they can act with impunity to make themselves even MORE powerful  which is the ultimate objective  of men like this. No matter how much power they have, it’s never enough.
With Donald Trump already mentally ill, pathological thinking combined with his progressive dementia that he knows is leaving him on borrowed time, he is becoming increasingly dangerous to the US and the world.

I agree very strongly with you that the illegal drug problem and damage to our citizens needs to be addressed with gusto.

Ironically, for the president who insists that he is all about this...........he's also the person that cut back funding to address it here in America  by the most in history. That makes no sense if he is really about making the drug problem in America better.

I discussed in detail, the ways that Trump SHOULD be acting if he was serious about the drug problem in the US at the posts below and what he is ACTUALLY doing.

Just the authentic facts below:

Official reports from U.S. and international agencies state that the amount of illegal drugs originating from or transiting through Cuba is  negligible.

Cuba has a "zero-tolerance" policy against drugs, and its intensive security measures and strict laws have largely prevented it from becoming a major transit point, producer, or consumer of illicit narcotics.

suspending habeas corpus abraham lincoln - Search   guess you never wanted to touch this either.....for obvious reasons

Thanks for the link, mcfarm.

Not sure why you would post it on this thread since it has 0 to do with Trump capturing the president of Venezuela but I'm familiar with it being discussed about him deporting illegal immigrants.

It's interesting that the example you gave, when Lincoln used it is the perfect example of why this is NOT a case to use it because the same environment is clearly NOT happening now in the United States.

The crisis and war that Trump is manufacturing is nothing like the Civil War.

I'm sorry that you're unable to see the difference between the Civil War and the current situation in the United States. I would say that the Civil War was 1,000 times more serious and if this is supposed to be applied because of the war on drugs, then how about President Trump first restoring the billions of dollars that he cut from legit programs being used here in our country instead of waving his magic MAGA wand and claiming that he doesn't  need to follow laws or the Constitution because of his laughable claim that this somehow rivals the Civil War and we need to pretend that it does so he can do what the heck he wants to with ZERO accountability.

Here's the facts again on drugs coming into the United States and how much  comes just from Venezuela. It's a REALLY good thing to stop these drugs.

I watched Jake Tapper interview Steven Miller on CNN 2 hours ago.

It was like watching Saturday Night Live!. Seriously.

Miller wouldn't let Tapper get a word in most of the time and made clear several points repeated over.

1. The United States is the world's greatest super power and is taking what rightfully belongs to the most powerful nation in the world. We are exerting our power to take control over weaker nations.

2. Greenland, with it's 30,000 people and no military will be unable to oppose the most powerful military in the world.  He repeated numerous times that the United States needs Greenland and nobody can stop us.

3. He shared no plan on how the United States is going to run Venezuela now that we have taken control of it. The assumption is that Trump has no plan, other than to exploit its oil.......somehow after he takes it over.

It's interesting that the NATO countries keep pretending that Putin is going to take other countries after he takes Ukraine. The chance of that is near 0.

While they spent 4 years spewing propaganda about how dangerous Putin will be to the rest of the world if we don't stop him........the person they are counting on to support their cause, Donald Trump is the REAL danger.

Far, FAR greater danger to the world outside of Ukraine than Putin will ever be.

While NATO has been squawking  about the threat of Putin to other countries, the most powerful nation in NATO, the United States just took over Venezuela, with Greenland  apparently next as well with serious threats to Cuba, Colombia and Mexico.

Other than Ukraine the past 4 years, which Putin has been crystal clear on, how many other countries has Putin been threatening in those 4 years?

What Trump just did was in blatant violation of being a NATO member.

Even if donald trump never takes greenland, the fact that he and stephan  miller are spending so much time threatening to take Greenland and miller suggesting how easy it will be for the most powerful military in the world to take it today on CNN is extremely concerning.

Trump is threatening to take over another NATO country!!!!

He is alienating all of our NATO rallies. If Trump tried to take Greenland and its 30,000 people, NATO  by definition of the agreement that every country  signed on to. They would all have to defend Greenland against Trump.

But Greenland as a NATO country, ironically would be defended by OVER 2 dozen NATO nations against the United States. As required  by  all NATO members if one of their own is invaded but this would never happen because NATO knows the US would crush them so they would not fight back and the NATO joke would end forever.

Stephan Miller today on CNN insisted that nobody can stop the United States as the   strongest military in the world when they decide to take Greenland. He repeated that, so we know it was exactly what he meant. He was acting like he was DRUNK on power. Not just his words but the way he said them. His mannerisms, behavior and speech patterns were those of a psychopath that was drunk on power during the entire interview. Jake Tapper had to constantly interrupt his extreme, manic/insane rambling on the topic which had him, literally acting like a man drunk on power.

Trump is a Bully.  Bullies like to pick on those weaker than themselves.  That is why Trump never stands up to Putin.  Maduro is a bad guy and his demise might lead to a better life for Venezuelans.  But it could also lead to chaos.

And what about unintended consequences?  China might see a green light for advancing on Taiwan.  After Russian finishes conquering Ukraine, they may turn their sights on Poland.  You think Trump will come to the aid of Poland?  I don't.

Trump doesn't believe in Democracy.  He doesn't believe in the Constitution, or even understand it.  (Jan 6th)

It is amazing how much damage he has done in one year to our Republic which has stood for 250 years.

My whole life I have believed in the stability of our system and felt certain that a nation of the people, by the people and for the people would never fall.  Now I am not so certain.

Thanks Larry and joj,

Exactly right on all points.

Bully is the perfect word for Donald Trump. He has been bending over backwards to strengthen the US military because that is a huge source of his power as a global bully on planet earth.

Stephan Miller repeated that half a dozen times on CNN yesterday. The United States is only taking what they earned and deserve as the world's greatest super power in history. No kidding, this deranged narrative came out of his mouth during n extremely manic , psychopathic rant. This guy sounded more scary than Trump and the 2 of them reinforcing each other is the diametrically opposed polar opposite of what Donald Trump needs right now which is  unemotional, objective advice from a calm, logical person who follows rules/laws, the Constitution and applies solid judgment that steers him towards making decisions in the BEST INTEREST of the United States and world.

He is obviously going far beyond being a yes man, like Hegseth. He sees the world just like Trump, with a galaxy sized ego and pathological thinking, along with our powerful military being the means for them to force the rest of the world to bow down.

For them to pilfer the oil in Venezuela and pretend its about drugs. To pilfer the rare earth elements and natural resources in Greenland as well as use it to militarily dominate the Arctic region of the world, where Russia and China currently control.

The funny thing about their mentality is that they are point blank exposing their REAL reason for taking control of Venezuela with their extremely dangerous threats to take Greenland.

Greenland manufactures no drugs.

Greenland is not politically unstable or led by a bad actor.

However, if either of those elements were present right now in Greenland, the US would have used it to justify taking Greenland for their REAL REASON. ........which is to obtain natural resources and geographic control of countries that make the United States an invincible super power that dominates planet earth with them in control.

Stephan Miller clearly stated that numerous times on CNN Monday afternoon in what was the most scary rant by such a powerful person in my lifetime.

What just happened in Venezuela will just give Trump and Miller more pathological fuel to fan their obsession to acquire unprecedented power.

yes Larry I criticize Trump for the self centered extra loud things he does. He gets ginned up with the fight. He likes to over talk his success. He often times could get further in certain battles by pulling back. Simply not his way. The lefts problem remains elections have consequences. If they truly see something extra constitutional they should change the law or produce the evidence. Instead they wonder off into the weeds and say "Well the shut down was the repubs fault " "the rich don't pay enough taxes" "defund the police" "open the boarders" "lets quit fossil fuels"   Just where does that leave over 1/2 of the electorate?

Say all you want about his personality but please enough with the non sense about his work ethic, the hours he puts in, he raped little girls, he was a Russian asset, the brilliant way he handled whatever military matters since his first election. Sorry but with all his warts and there are plenty, Trump loves this country and wants what is best for this country. And his policies have had no rival for years because by a large number Americans want what is best too.

Venezuelan army says 24 soldiers died in US operation to capture Maduro

https://thehill.com/policy/international/5675420-venezuela-army-maduro-trump/

++++++++++++++++++

Donald Trump used our powerful military to bomb dozens of boats, against International law,  murdering more than 100 people as the judge, jury and executioner. Then Donald Trump violates the sovereignty of Venezuela with an invasion, using our powerful military again to kidnap their president,  to hold him on trial in the United States. Killing at least 2 dozen more people and sending Venezuela, NATO and much of the world into chaos with his threats about what's coming next to Columbia, Mexico, Greenland and others.

Using this as a big fat ruse to get the oil from the country in the world with the highest oil reserves.

Abusing our military and the office of the president of the United States for his personal agenda as the most powerful man in the world.

So egregious on many levels. Impeachable offenses by every objective standard!

metmike: No drugs come from Cuba as in ZERO. Cuba has no natural resources for the US to exploit as in ZERO.  The reason to target Cuba is purely political agenda and to exploit (abuse) the power of the United State as a SUPER power to gain more and more control in our world.

The specific reason is that our leader, as the most powerful man on the planet is mentally ill with delusions of grandeur, pathological thinking (getting worse with his progressive dementia) is obsessed with creating a legacy of Donald Trump, the omnipotent and infallible, greatest president and man that ever lived.

Putting his name on everything. Changing everything to Donald Trump's, often delusional visions that will put his stamp on it and enrich him personally or politically.

Really. That's what he's trying to do. And he's been in the drivers seat that allows him to do most of it with impunity.

Congress must impeach him ASAP because he will continue to cause great harm in the realms that he reeks havoc in to serve Donald Trump's self enriching agenda.

There were actually points in time when Greenland would have at least considered being part of the United States.

If our country would have approached them respectfully and allowed them to have the power to control the future path of their own country.

However, President Trump, like he often does completely sabotaged that by using the tactics which have caused so many enemies turned so many allies against us/him.

Donald Trump insulted Greenlanders.  Donald Trump continues to threaten to use force against them to take their country.

He alienated yet another country with his pathological words that greatly offended them.
