I started a thread down here on this topic as my comments about Donald Trump on the trading forum were going WAY into NTR territory and we have several MAGA supporting posters/readers here that would be offended and the moderator ought to follow his own rules!

There are no economists for tariffs which are just a tax on American companies and on the American people, despite Donald Trump lying about them.
They are bad for our trading partners. Bad for our relationship with trading partners. Bad for US companies. Bad for US consumers. But they do increase revenue for the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, ironically at a time when Trump's Big Ugly Bill does the exact opposite and he threatens to give people a tax/tariff rebate check that exceeds the tariff revenue and pretend that it's all thanks to his wonderful tariffs.
Unfortunately, in Trump's unhinged mind, this big tariff loss decision makes it more likely that he will start an unprovoked war with Iran because he knows that he can win that battle.
His State of the Union speech next Tuesday is going to be a doozy and one we don't want to miss. Sadly, that's for all the wrong reasons other than it will provide more jaw dropping evidence that he is not qualified to hold the office of President of the United States.
Regardless of that, I read the views of the 3 judges that disagreed with this decision. WOW, it's pretty scary that we would have Supreme Court judges that think this way.
They basically stated that if Congress gives the president their powers(to impose tariffs) it's ok by the Constitution.
Which is what the R controlled Congress has been doing in most realms the past year.
In other words, our NEW, Donald Trump authoritarian government has only 2 branches. The executive branch with 2/3rds and the judicial branch with 1/3rd power.
And it takes a long time for the judicial branch to catch up with the many thousands of Donald Trump violations of the Constitution.
Like his tariffs. Donald Trump has been in office for over a year and these tariffs did incredible, PERMANENT damage during that time before they were struck down.
The other thing too. Elections only happen every 4 years(2 for Congress). In between them, an unpopular, law breaking authoritarian wrecking the country and getting supported by his own party(that's afraid to confront him and with tribal/political thinking and a complete lack of moral/ethical courage) there's a ton of time before being held accountable by Americans at the voting polls(that he's scheming to obstruct).

Donald Trump lost big after the Supreme Court, the highest court in the land ruled against him.
A smart, sane person would realize that they lost, then move on as soon as possible so that people would forgot their loss and remember better things about them.
Instead, Donald Trump did the 180 degrees diametrically opposed, polar opposite of that.
He took an obscure rule to impose 10% tariffs on every country on the planet that WILL expire in 150 days.
Thinking himself clever and Fox News/MAGA tonight insisting that he just outsmarted/beat the Supreme Court, he just shot himself in both feet.
Now, his huge loss over tariffs will linger and linger and linger in everyone's minds while we spend an ADDITIONAL 150 days with this as a top news story.
Then, at the end of 150 days........the tariffs go away and Donald Trump LOSES AGAIN!!!!
The Supreme Court is never going to overturn this. The more resistance, the longer it lingers the worst this will be for Donald Trump.
During that 150 day time frame, Mr. too clever for the rest of the world will think that attacking the Supreme Court like he did today and manufactured galactically insane lies about how his tariffs reduce inflation or create jobs or are paid by other countries.
150 days worth of giving people more reasons to vote for the D candidates in November. 7 months from now is September, just before the election. Fresh in voters minds will be the tariffs issue because Donald Trump doubled and tripled down on his loss early in the year.
Supposedly his tariffs are to bring manufactures back to the US. What manufacturer or company would not just wait 150 days for the tariffs to expire?
And the MAJORITY of Americans don't support tariffs and KNOW that they pay for them. So instead of Donald Trump doing things to impress voters before the election, he couldn't have done a worse thing than extending his own unpopular and ruinous tariffs AFTER the Supreme Court ruled his tariffs are illegal and thinking somehow that he can beat the Supreme Court doing this while attacking them with extremely disrespectful personal attacks. .
What a gift to the Ds!
2-21-26: Donald Trump has been in a huge battle with the FED over lowering interest rates. He wants interest rates MUCH lower. The FED has been hesitant to do that because interest rates TOO low, stimulate the economy TOO much which increases inflation and one of their priorities is to control inflation.
The best thing that Donald Trump could do to create an economy that's favorable for the FED to lower interest rates is to REMOVE HIS TARIFFS! Donald Trump is completely sabotaging his own objectives with his ruinous tariffs.

Now that the Supreme Court has ruled that Donald Trump illegally stole 134 billion from American Companies and American consumers, how do we make that right????
What a mess!
Donald Trump refusing to abide by the decision, making PERSONAL ATTACKS on the Supreme Court and their families and instead, using a never before used law to impose NEW tariffs on EVERY country (including ones that we have a positive trade balance with) based on a FAKE emergency, are actions/words that speak for themselves.
Don't miss the State of the Union next Tuesday.
It has a high potential of being a shocking speech that, unfortunately will be one of the biggest embarrassments in our country's history.
Progressive dementia NEVER gets better.
In some people, especially those with character flaws it brings out the worst in them.
Donald Trump is not going to be the first human in history to recover from progressive dementia. We KNOW where this is headed.

I was actually going to post about how it was a bit surprising to not read about a tweet from Donald Trump overnight which made his really bad situation even worse.............but then, as expected he just did that as evidenced by your post.
His path this time is just making his time left as president shorter and causing the Mt. Everest pile of evidence to remove him to reach new heights.
It's pretty clear to almost everybody not in MAGA that he's not qualified to be president and is increasingly dangerous as the most powerful man in the world. Some people may not recognize this as part of his rapidly progressing dementia but it is and so far during human history, nobody has ever recovered from rapidly progressing dementia. 3 years is an incredibly long time for somebody with his extremely pathological thinking, mental health issues and ORGANIC brain degradation.
No way will he finish this term!

Donald Trump's reactions(not just words) are a perfect example of how unstable he is and how his tariffs are NOT based on what he claims. He usually provides the direct evidence to bust his own lies.
He criticized the Supreme Court for taking so long to make their decision. On that point, I actually agree. Allowing the clearly illegal tariffs to go on for so many months, doing increasing damage and adding up the many billions that US companies and consumers are now owed because of the illegal tariffs was irresponsible in my opinion.
But here's the thing. Donald Trump had all that time to decide what he was going to do. There is no way that he didn't think this would never happen. He might have it probably wouldn't happen but he had to consider it a possibility and have allllllllllllllllll that time to decide on his response.
OK, he appeared to be ready for that by imposing a 10% tariff on every country in the world (even though some of those countries don't line up at all with the reason for it).
Then, less than 24 hours later, as he worked himself up with rage, typical of his response when he doesn't get his way and he wants vengeance or some way to reinforce his powers over the situation, he suddenly increased the tariffs on every country in the world to 15%.
He just negated my initial thinking that Donald Trump was prepared for this decision because of his immediate imposition of the 10% tariff.
On Friday, he signed an official document and act that imposed the 10% tariffs on every country in the world for the next 150 days. . Think about how huge of a deal that is. Less than 24 hours later, he announced that he was declaring his own act invalid because he had suddenly changed his mind(despite nothing new).

It's now February 21, 2026 and less than 24 hours after he declared this presidential emergency act, after having many months to prepare and make this decision. He just changed it. Now he has to impose a new emergency Proclamation that imposes the new 15% amount. He is providing us with the most powerful evidence of all for why he really uses these tariffs.
They allow him unfettered/unrestricted power which is what drives his extremely pathological thinking. He just proved it in the past 24 hours at a time when every other president and all clearly thinking people that had the entire world watching them, would take new actions using caution.
He is lashing out to maximize his power(this time, impulsively, which defines him) with everything else an after thought.
Again, his progressive dementia is only going to make him worse and worse.
Donald Trump is already the most dangerous man on the planet outside of Ukraine and Gaza(where 2 other psychopaths target their victims to their limited areas) but I am sending out the extreme warnings right now about the high potential for Donald Trump to try to destroy our country before he ever gives up power............when the time comes to impeach him or use Article 25.
There is a near 0% chance that Donald Trump would do like President Nixon and resign. Seriously, he would rather destroy the United States than to suffer the humiliation of being removed from office.
Much of what he is doing now is adding to the enormous amount evidence for him to be impeached when the Ds take control o the House and start the investigation.
Just try to imagine the Ds doing an impeachment investigation of Donald Trump that pulls up item after item after item of rock solid evidence against. Donald Trump's progressive dementia will have advanced another X number of months.
It's impossible to OVER estimate how bad his reactions will be. I have mentioned this before. He could send a nuclear weapon at Russia to start a devastating war. And the saddest thing of all is that Puppet Hegseth would go along with it. He pointed people that have sworn allegiance to Donald Trump NOT the Constitution.
Anything is possible. He has lost much of his ability to use any sort of rational judgment and everybody in his administration will carry out any orders that he tells them too(and most are incompetent), which is why they have those positions.
Removing him from office will very likely cause a stock market crash when it becomes obvious that the rich people's Ponzi Scheme is losing the person that does everything to sustain it at the expense of all else.
That the Ds have taken control of the House and are most likely to win the 2028 election and will be doing things FOR ALL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. Not just MAGA and the rich/powerful people..
