U.S. and Mexico plan summit in Washington on Wednesday in bid to head off trade dispute

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2019/05/31/lawmakers-express-alarm-trump-forges-ahead-with-mexico-tariffs/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.a50cd528be19

"On Thursday, Trump announced he would slap a 5 percent tariff beginning June 10 against all goods entering the United States from the southern border, a surcharge that would hit millions of products like cars, machinery, fruits and vegetables. Trump promised the tariffs would escalate each month until Mexico stopped migrants from crossing into the United States."

Why are they framing this as a trade dispute and comparing it to China??

This is Trump being desperate to stop the massive invasion of people illegally crossing from the Mexican side at the southern border because he can't get elected officials in his own country to act......or even recognize there's a MAJOR crisis.

This needs to be framed for what it is. An extremely desperate move by a loose cannon president that will do anything to protect our country, when the ones that have the political power and responsibility to do it, refuse to do it for purely political reasons. Trump, the guy that doesn't play by political rules or care what others think, is using measures considered completely unacceptable by political standards to protect the United States. This could backfire badly.............or it might work.

Is this a smart thing to do? Definitely not politically and it's leading to him being condemned by most sources(what's new) and it can backfire badly. It's also exactly the sort of thing that the Democrats want. Block Trump and attack Trump and push his buttons and try to  keep him from being an effective president(at the expense of the American people getting important work done) and hope he reacts by doing things that make him look bad..............like with the government shut down, which was entirely Trumps fault, trying to get the democrats to fund  the desparately needed wall to help manage the major crisis.

They blocked it then and when he tried to go around them, they went to court to block all wall projects that Trump had started or was planning and got a judge to rule in their favor(this is insane that the democrats are going to court to STOP a wall from being built-when many of them were FOR a wall while Obama was president) Now, he's trying to go way around them to the country where the illegals are gushing out into this country from.

With regards to it working? If he can get Mexico to stop just 50% of the people from crossing the border, president Trump is a genius.

But wouldn't it be great if our own politicians would agree to providing the funding needed to address this crisis, instead of them using it to damage somebody that is trying to address it?
