1969 – Chappaquiddick incident: U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy crashes his car into a tidal basin at Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts, killing his passenger, Boiler Room Girl Mary Jo Kopechne.

This incident cost Teddy his opportunity to run for president. His brother Robert/Bobby would probably have been president........if not assassinated on June 5, 1968.  John, of course was also assasinated as president on November 22, 1963.
