Just an update on our farm and others in the area and crops

Took a walk into some corn today

The single most glaring thing I saw was how uneven our corn is maturing

I saw cobs with lots of yellow colour on the kernels

I saw cobs with no colour

I saw white silk, which means that cob has not pollinated

This is all in a single row

This tells me the crop did not grow evenly

Some is much further advanced thn others

I have no idea what the yield might be as it is too soon to know anything concrete about number of kernels, depth of hernels etc. but uneven corn does not yield to it's potential

On a positive side our soybeans decided to take a growth spurt

We have been getting a few 1/4" rains. One week we even got two rains

Must have been just enough to kick start the growth stage. if they pod as good as they look, then our bean crop is far from a disaster

Most fields are completely weed free and very even in growth. Even June planted beans look good.

The weeds may show up later as I did not walk any bean fields, but golly, as of now they look really good

Most are solid seeded and I can't fight my way thru that much growth.
