Don’t buy trashy magazines or click on click-bait headlines
From a historical perspective, the techniques employed by clickbait authors can be considered derivative of yellow journalism, which presented little or no legitimate well-researched news and instead used eye-catching headlines that included exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, or sensationalism.
https://www.britannica.com/topic/yellow-journalism
Yellow journalism, the use of lurid features and sensationalized news in newspaper publishing to attract readers and increase circulation. The phrase was coined in the 1890s to describe the tactics employed in the furious competition between two New York City newspapers, the World and the Journal.
The era of yellow journalism may be said to have ended shortly after the turn of the 20th century, with the World’s gradual retirement from the competition in sensationalism. Some techniques of the yellow journalism period, however, became more or less permanent and widespread, such as banner headlines, coloured comics, and copious illustration. In other media, most notably television and the Internet, many of the sensationalist practices of yellow journalism became more commonplace.

Humanity has 20 years to shape up or face mass extinction. Sounds scary, right? If this headline popped up on your news feed, it would be next-to-impossible to ignore your curiosity and not click. However, once you dive into the article written by the New York Post, check a few sources, and compare them to other publications, you would discover that this headline is the epitome of the modern phenomena of clickbait.
Some might argue that making these bold, eye-catching claims are progressive and essential for environmental science to engage the public. However, by over exaggerating and overlooking real science, true progressive action cannot be achieved. Take a look at New York Magazine’s cover story, published just a few days ago. “The Uninhabitable Earth” by David Wallace-Wells tells stories of imminent doomsday scenarios that will destroy us in a fiery blaze or a suffocating tidal wave.
Responsible, objective, professional and fair minded journalism has been pushed aside by the progressive activists that dominate the field more and more.
Their objective is to convert as many people as possible to their belief systems.
There still are still many very good journalists in the field and much of the reporting done by the bad journalists is about non political topics, where their personal bias does not come into play.
However, entities like CNN and CNBC on topics like President Trump and the Fake Climate Crisis are quintessential examples of what has gone very wrong.
Some of my favorite examples:
"Avenatti was interviewed on broadcast and cable news networks 214 times from March to November 2018"

Michael Avenatti Faces 36 New Counts and Up to 335 Years in prison.
From CNN:
"The former chairman of the Psychiatry Department at Duke University claimed on CNN that President Trump is as bad as the worst dictators of the 20th century, and that his presidency might lead to even more deaths than they did."
