metmike: As an environmentalist, it's an outrage to see us flushing trillions down the toilet to try to manage a fake climate crisis(during this climate optimum for most life-including insects)...........while ignoring the real environmental problems for life.
This study makes some good points that I agree with to strongly agree with. Destruction of habitat and insecticides are taking a toll on some insects.
However, they are wrong about climate change and its easy to show that with a common sense, critical thinking question(s):
What kills the most insects each year:
Answer: Cold.............by a very wide margin.
What happens every Winter to the insect population?
Answer: Widespread death and extreme survival mode adaptations(hibernating).

To ignore the benefits of increasing warmth to insects in the middle and high latitudes(with very little detriments elsewhere) tells us that the source must be intentionally not telling us this. They are experts. You and me know this from living on the planet for XX years. How would they possibly not know?
For them to state this, however, would require them acknowledging the truth about climate change...............that's it's beneficial!
Their anti science position on this keeps me from fully endorsing ALL their findings but at least they are calling attention to realities based on authentic data which the world should know about............and take steps to manage.
Forget cutting out fossil fuels. This is the dumbest idea that humans have every come up with in history, akin to bloodletting of sick patients in the Middle Ages by doctors to get the poison out.
That blood has nutrients/oxygen needed for the sick patient to fight the illness and recover.
The beneficial CO2 emissions from burning fossil fuels has rescued life on earth from dangerously low levels of CO2.
We've gone from around 280 parts per million to over 410 PPM. All of it has been beneficial for life, which is asking for much more.
How do we know?

Why all the stuff about bloodletting in a thread about the environment/climate?
In less than 50 years, I am absolutely convinced that humans will look back on this current time frame and the way that we treated beneficial CO2 with the exact same view that we have today about bloodletting.
But in 50 years, they won't chalk it up to just dumb climate scientists, like the physicians that did not understand the human body/chemistry, medicine/science and did the blood letting.
The authentic science for the past 50 years has showed this to be a climate optimum.
60 years ago, if you asked scientists what temperature would be ideal/optimal for life on this planet, maybe 97% of them would have said "warmer" Which is what the history of our planet shows conclusively.
I can't imagine 1 of them saying colder.
But today, the gatekeepers have twisted the definitions. They want you to think that the ideal temperature was 100 years ago...........before humans started burning fossil fuels and the warming since then is all BAD.
And all that beneficial CO2 massively greening up the planet.........that's pollution.
Applying the principles of bloodletting to the atmosphere in order to accomplish the political agenda via fraudulent means.
As the climate optimum advances, the fraud will become even more obvious(the current brainwash works because people don't do their own research-they believe what they see on tv and the internet-especially, when they are constantly told that this represents the work of ALL the legit climate experts).
This atmospheric scientist and tens of thousands of scientists smarter than me disagree strongly with that statement.
