I remember, many years ago, when the civil war in Syria started, Pres Assad called his opponents “terrorists”. Well, what else would you expect him to say, to make himself look good… and the news was full of stories about the atrocities committed by this “brutal dictator”.
Then, during the Obama years, we finally were told the truth…Assad’s opponents were indeed AlQaeda affiliates, as well as ISIS.
And shockingly, the US was supporting and arming these AlQaeda figthers.
In more recent years, we also found out that the recent “chemical attack” by the Syrian army was fake news, and that many of the atrocities against “Assad’s people” were false flag operations.
Now,Turkey started a war with Syria. It seems, Erdogan wants to make Turkey a dominating force in the M.E., establish a Caliphat, and possibly reestablish the old Ottoman Empire
What complicates the current situation is the fact that Turkey is a member of NATO and wants to be a member of the EU.
The make friends with the EU, Turkey has held large numbers of M.E. refugees within Turkey. During the last few weeks, NATO members were hesitant to support Turkey’s aggression towards Syria. Erdogan then threatened them to release all these refugees and send them towards the EU.
He did so this week. Thousands (up to 30,000) were taken to the Greece border on busses provided by Turkey.
We can only hope that the US does not side with Turkey. and as a result gets dragged into a war with Russia.
