(CNN)President Donald Trump ignored reports from US intelligence agencies starting in January that warned of the scale and intensity of the coronavirus outbreak in China, The Washington Post reported Friday.
"A source familiar told CNN that the congressional intelligence committees were briefed on the threat coronavirus posed in January and February.
The intelligence reports did not predict when the virus might hit the US or recommend steps that should be taken in response, the source said. The reports tracked the spread of the virus in China and then other countries, and warned that Chinese officials were minimizing the impact.
Within the administration, Trump's aides tried in vain to convince him of the virus's seriousness, according to the Post. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar was unable to discuss the virus with Trump until January 18, two senior administration officials told the Post -- at which point the President interrupted him to ask when sales of flavored vaping products would resume, senior administration officials told the paper.
Later in January, aides met with then-acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney in an effort to convince higher level officials to monitor the virus -- with White House Domestic Policy Council Director Joe Grogan asserting that if the White House did not seriously address the virus, an issue likely to be front and center for months, Trump could risk losing his reelection, people briefed on the meeting told the Post."
metmike: To suggest that others knew this was coming and tried to warn him but he ignored them is FAKE NEWS.
He was widely criticized for his travel ban of China for being a xenophobe and over reacting. Including from Nancy Pelosi who used an appearance in Chinatown in LATE FEBRUARY to draw attention to her disagreement with Trumps ban on Chinese travelers weeks earlier.
I have been following this closely since mid January. Nobody had any idea it was going to get this bad until early March. I thought we would have only 10,000 infections during the first week in March. I was really wrong. Everybody was. Let's just be honest. It's fine if Pelosi, CNN/MSM and all the dems were really, really wrong back in late February, thinking it was not going to be that bad too........bashing Trump in February for his ban on people coming from China.
But to pretend that Trump should have known in January based on information that Pelosi also had and was downplaying EVEN MORE than Trump in late February is grossly dishonest.
Tell the truth! At least Trump imposed a travel ban in late January, doing something while other condemned him. Yes, he messed up big after that by not taking it serious enough but these sources that were also thinking with that mindset at the time are now pretending like they knew and everybody knew.................WHEN THEY DIDN"T KNOW.

in jan, no one really knew if this would be mild, or severe.
here locally, it still is not as bad as a normal flu season.
last year in america, 40k died of the flu.
last year in america, about 40k died of car accidents. but we did not shut down roads.
u.s. intelligence agencies are often very wrong about big issues. just saying.
i'm not sure if i'd act on every report put out by our intelligence agencies.

I was following this thing since mid january when it was only in China. Of course I would never have anything close to the information that top level people in the know had access too but I knew everything the MSM did and more from gathering and interpreting the data that we did have.
For anybody to pretend that they knew in January and that they warned others back in January, I say..........where were you in January?
Where were you in February? Where were your grave warnings?
Tell the truth, they didn't know either.
In early March, I was still guessing 10,000 cases here at the end of the month and that seemed high.
2 weeks later, I adjusted that to 200,000. That's when we ALL realized how bad it was going to be.
I do know one person that was sounding the alarm. Wayne from MarketForum was continually telling us how bad it would be. We should have all listened to him.
Granted, Wayne had some crazy theories that I had to continually debunk (1.5 million bodies incinerated) but he predicted the pandemic and the affects on the economy and he grossly underestimated the plunge in the price of oil, partly from this virus.
Congrats Wayne, sorry that you are stuck at home right now!

Washington (CNN)US intelligence officials were warning as far back as late November that the novel coronavirus was spreading through China's Wuhan region and posing a threat to its people and daily life, according to ABC News.
The US military's National Center for Medical Intelligence (NCMI) compiled a November intelligence report in which "analysts concluded it could be a cataclysmic event," one of the sources of the NCMI's report told ABC News.
The source told ABC News that the intelligence report was then briefed "multiple times" to the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon's Joint Staff and the White House.
Repeated briefings were held through December across the US government, including the National Security Council, culminating in a detailed outline of the threat in the President's Daily Brief in early January, according to ABC News, whose report cited four sources briefed on the matter.

The report, which CNN has not independently verified, raised concerns because of the disease's potential threat to US military forces in Asia, ABC News reported.

The Trump administration has faced criticism for not responding quickly enough to contain the novel coronavirus in the US, which now has the most confirmed cases globally. In the absence of that, the news can be anything that anybody says, including unsubstantiated crap which can be passed on to the other news organizations, which pass it on to others and nobody ever verifies that's it's legit........which is exactly what is happening.
They are reporting this as NEWS. Not because it happened, in fact it looks extremely suspect but because they are practicing yellow journalism and tabloid news to attack somebody that they hate.

What is the matter with these people?
The Chinese caused this virus because of how they kill and eat animals in their "wet"market. When it was spreading, they totally lied about it for months.
President Trump was caught off guard in the early stages...........as I was. As every country was. As the democrats and MSM were.
He has been busting his butt to help Americans since then............more than any person anywhere.
Yet, the some of the people that were caught off guard early on and had no clue that it would be this bad are telling us(with fake news) that President Trump knew for months but hid it and ignored it, so this is all his fault.
Where were they in January(we know that Pelosi was in Chinatown in late Feb telling people to join the big crowds because it was safe and Trump's travel ban on China was because he is a xenophobe.
Why didn't our intelligence people speak out in January or absurdly (based on their latest position) in November/December if they knew of this major threat?
