DOJ records show members of Mueller’s team ‘wiped’ phones during Trump probe

The documents were released after a lawsuit from Judicial Watch

Newly released records from the Department of Justice show that the cell phones of multiple people on then-Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigative team were "wiped" for various reasons during the probe.

The records show at least several dozen phones were wiped of information because of forgotten passcodes, irreparable screen damage, loss of the device, intentional deletion or other reasons -- and came before the DOJ’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) could review the devices.

The documents show that Mueller deputy Andrew Weissman "accidentally wiped" his phone twice after entering the wrong passcode too many times in March 2018. Lawyer James Quarles’ phone “wiped itself” without his intervention, the records say.

The documents were released after a lawsuit from the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch. They were first reported by Sean Davis of the Federalist.

The records indicate Attorney Greg Andres phone was also wiped due to a forgotten passcode. And they say the phones of both Mueller deputy Kyle Freeny and Rush Atkinson were wiped accidentally after they entered the wrong passcode too many times.

The records say that a phone belonging to FBI lawyer Lisa Page – whose anti-Trump texts with FBI agent Peter Strzok were of interest to investigators -- was restored to factory settings when the inspector general’s office received it.

metmike: This is blatant obstruction of justice....................and it shows how guilty they knew they were. You don't destroy massive amounts of evidence that an investigator wants if it exonerates you.

This wasn't one or two phones...............it was at least 15 phones. And these are  not techno-boobs that don't understand the technology.......just the opposite. They investigate people for a living and they know how to destroy  digital evidence  that would indite  them of  wrongful activities. There is no other explanation that makes sense for this.............and they will get away with it.

At Least 27 Phones from Special Counsel’s Office Were Wiped before DOJ Inspector General Could Review Them

"Additionally, the cell phone of FBI lawyer Lisa Page was misplaced by the special counsel’s office. While it was eventually obtained by the DOJ inspector general, by that point the phone had been restored to its factory settings, wiping it of all data. The phone of FBI agent Peter Strzok was also obtained by the inspector general’s office, which found “no substantive texts, notes or reminders” on it.

Strzok and Page texted each other about their aversion to Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election cycle. In their messages to each other, Strzok and Page, who were carrying on an extramarital affair at the time, both called then-candidate Trump an “idiot” and made vague mention of an “insurance policy” to ensure he would not be elected. Critics have speculated that the “insurance policy” referred to the investigation of potential ties between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin, but the two former FBI officials have denied that suggestion.

In March of last year, Mueller submitted his final report to Attorney General William Barr on the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. The report, a redacted version of which was released to Congress and the public the next month, concluded that the Trump campaign did not conspire with Russians to influence the election, but said investigators could not reach a conclusion on whether President Trump committed obstruction of justice."

metmike: I stand corrected. Not 15 phones but at least 27 phones. These investigators being investigated can simply.............destroy the evidence and probably get away with it. Similar to what Hillary did with their approval when she bleached clean and destroyed all the evidence on her computers.

27+ phones tells us that they all knew what they were doing was wrong and it was the entire group conspiring to accomplish the same objective.

They in fact failed even after 2.5 years and 25 million tax payer dollars to fund  the quintessential example of the corrupt Washington "Swamp".

With no accountability because these arrogant  people will not answer to anybody.
