U.S. #corn export sales were better than expected last week - #Japan had the largest volume with 676kt.

Old-crop #soybeans had disappointing interest (#China was 69%), but new crop had their biggest week yet with 1.56 mmt sold, heading to China, Netherlands and unknown.

This was the sale mcfarm mentioned:

USDA confirms the following U.S. #corn export sales for delivery in 2020/21: 1,700,000 tonnes to #China213,600 tonnes to unknown The flash to China is the 6th largest ever corn flash. Today's sales combine for 75.3 mln bu of corn

@kannbwx

The three-day total for #China is 3.74 million tonnes (147.2 million bushels) of #corn. Adding in the unknown sales brings the total to 4.06 mmt (160 mln bu).

#China now occupies three of the top 10 all-time daily U.S. #corn sales by volume.

 All three of those sales, totaling 5.4 million tonnes (212.5 million bushels), were for the 2020/21 marketing year that ends Aug. 31, 2021.

Here's the top 10 daily U.S. #corn export sales by volume for the 2020/21 year.

#China occupies 9 out of 10, and all three of this week's sales appear on the list.

 As of today, we know that China has bought *at least* 15.6 mmt (614 mln bu) of U.S. corn for shipment in 20/21.

Here's the top 10 sales for 2020/21.

 Not seeing the big single volumes of #soybeans as in prior years, but there have been many more smaller sales than usual, most to #China

My count shows 120 individual soy flashes for 20/21 vs 127 in 16/17 and 78-91 in the years between.

There has not been a new entry into the top 10 daily U.S. export sales for #soybeans in two years, though the top 10 all belong to #China

The most recent entry, Feb. 5, 2019, followed the "5 million tonnes per day" incident at a press conference. That was exactly two years ago.

Here's the background on the "5 million tonnes per day" situation for those who might not have been following at the time. 5 mmt/day is TOTALLY not viable. Supplies would've been cleaned out in less than a week. **NOTE the article is from 2019

For new-crop sales, the major destinations % breakdown is as follows: Unknown 50%#China 37% EU 11% Very possible that a lot of those unknown sales are China, but we can't be sure of how many.

Not to be outdone by #corn sales, #soybeans have set a little record of their own. As of Jan. 21, some 3.6 million tonnes of U.S. beans had been sold for shipment in 2021/22, the most ever new-crop sales on the books for the date. #China accounts for 37% of that.

These were the 2020/21 U.S. #corn export sales totals as of Jan. 21: #China 11.8 mmt#Mexico 10.7 mmt Unknown 7.9 mmt#Japan 7 mmt#Colombia 2.4 mmt Total 48.7 mmt We know that China has added at least 5.85 mmt since then.

@kannbwx

As of Friday, we know that #China has bought at least 17.7 million tonnes of U.S. #corn for delivery in 2020/21. That's 697 million bushels. Record export year for U.S. corn to China was 2011/12 with 5.15 million tonnes or 203 million bushels.

The new top 10 #China bumped the Soviet Union out of 2nd on Friday, marking the 4th Chinese purchase for 2020/21 to land in the top 10 largest daily U.S. #corn sales. Those four total 7.5 million tonnes or 296 million bushels.Image

But here's a decent way to visualize that. Now we are looking at Jan. 28 #corn sales (which are approximated for 20/21) versus USDA's Jan full-year forecast. The dashed bars show where the final exports were LOWER than USDA Jan. Solid show where they landed HIGHER.

Thinking ahead to next week's export sales report, if we take *just* the Jan. 26-29 daily sales of U.S. #corn and incorporate into the total, that would be 85% of USDA's export target sold for 2020/21. The next comparable is 76% in 07/08, a record export year.

Jan. 29: Most-active CBOT #corn hit $5.53-3/4 per bu, the highest since June 2013 after #China makes its largest ever U.S. corn purchase. China bought more U.S. corn this week than the USA has ever shipped to the country in an entire marketing year.
