President Biden is finally calling the chaos at the southern border what it is — a crisis.
The startling rhetorical turnabout came Saturday in an off-the-cuff conversation with reporters in Wilmington, Del., as Biden tried to defend his Friday flip-flop on refugee admissions.
“We’re going to increase the number [of refugees allowed into the country],” Biden said as he headed home after playing the first golf game of his presidency. “The problem was that the refugee part was working on the crisis that ended up on the border with young people.”
“We couldn’t do two things at once,” he added. “But now we are going to increase the number.”
In his somewhat garbled comment, Biden seemed to be saying that the strain of handling the influx of migrant children has overtaxed the nation’s immigration authorities — making it impossible for them to handle an increase in authorized refugees as well.
On Friday, hours after Biden signed an executive order retaining the Trump administration’s 15,000-person cap on refugee admissions for this year, White House press secretary Jen Psaki issued a hasty announcement saying that the White House will unveil an undisclosed higher cap on May 15.
The sudden switcheroo came after progressive Democrats, led by Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), excoriated the initial decision on social media.
But in his justification, Biden may have given his press office a new headache, by using the very word — “crisis” — his administration, including Psaki and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, has staunchly been avoiding for months.
The dramatic surge of migrants rushing across the Mexican border into the U.S. — with 172,000 apprehended in March alone, a 15-year record — has overwhelmed the Customs and Border Patrol, Republicans charge.
“We have a very serious challenge and I don’t think the difficulty of that challenge could be overstated,” Mayorkas said at a congressional hearing last month. “We also have a plan to address it,” he added.
You can forget about transparency from this administration.
They denied the crisis for over a month, then it turned into a mega crisis............and they denied it for another month. Then it turned into an historical, super mega crisis and still denied it for a bit longer before they finally had to admit it.
https://nypost.com/2021/04/10/rep-malliotakis-biden-has-turned-over-our-border-to-the-cartels/
A furious Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis blasted President Biden for causing the “inhumane and horrible” border crisis after traveling to Texas for a first-hand look.
“President Biden has turned over our border to the cartels,” the Republican from Staten Island told The Post after a Friday visit to the Rio Grande Valley with a group of House GOP colleagues.
“It angered me to see how the smugglers have just taken over,” she said. “It’s completely chaotic.
“How could anybody who has a heart let this go on, knowing how people are being exploited?” she asked.
According to US Customs and Border Patrol agents who briefed the legislators, Mexican cartels are taking advantage of Biden’s porous border policies to make billions.
“The bottom line is, this is a business for the cartels,” Malliotakis said. “They are making an estimated half-billion dollars a month — first with human trafficking, then with the guns, the drugs. And one feeds off the other.”
With CBP resources strained as officers tend the migrants the cartels have sent flooding over the border — 172,000 people in March alone — the criminals can freely shuttle weapons, narcotics, gang members, and even potential terrorists into the US through unguarded areas, the lawmakers were told.
“They said the cartels exploit children to use them as scouts” as the criminals cross the Rio Grande in rafts and small boats, Malliotakis said.
“And if CBP comes too close — in one case two weeks ago, the smugglers threw a 6-month-old over the raft into the water, because it diverted the agents to go save the baby and let them get away.”
Cartels are actively recruiting migrants from far beyond Central America, she was told: at least 60 countries are represented at the migrant holding facility in Donna, Tex.
“It’s not like these people are coming spontaneously,” Malliotakis said. “This is an organized criminal operation that President Biden has allowed to occur by undoing the actions that President Trump took to try to create some order at the border.”
Malliotakis snapped photos of children “sleeping on top of each other” under reflective blankets in the Donna holding center — which was built for 250 people but now houses 4,000 migrants for weeks at a time.
“These kids are in what they call a pod. It’s meant for 33 people, but you have like 100 of them in there. Zero social distancing,” she explained.
Tiny sneakers and flip-flops were placed carefully along the clear plastic sides of the packed pod as a flat-screen TV ran cartoons in a far corner.
“We saw kids who were crying, very scared and alone,” Malliotakis said. “The ones who were sent by themselves — they don’t know why they’re there, they don’t know where their families are. Absolutely heartbreaking.”

1. The NY Post is right biased.
2. One can tell in the way this article is written that there is a goal to make Biden look bad and the writer even uses slang:
"The sudden switcheroo"
Switcheroo is a slang word. A professional writer shouldn't use slang imo.
I feel Biden has done poorly so far with regard to the MX border. Even CNN agrees. But my opinion about this is beside the point of my post, which is to knock the source and how the article was written. It was written more like an editorial.
Gunter,
You Da Man!
You beat president Biden on recognizing a crisis on the southern border by 2 months.............while sitting on a chair in front of your computer!
And not costing the tax payers a penny!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
And I showed everyone how COVID had peaked back in early January, when Biden had continually said that COVID would stay really bad for months.......and I documented his bs the entire way.

Biden says nothing can change the trajectory of the Covid pandemic over the next several months
"President Joe Biden has painted a bleak picture of the nation’s coronavirus outbreak in his first few days in office, warning that it will take months to turn around the pandemic’s trajectory and that fatalities are expected to dramatically rise over the next few weeks.
Jan 24-metmike: I'm repeating the headline of the title again here, along with the link, anticipating that over the next several months, that I will be coming back to this thread to demonstrate how nuts that statement was.....and only makes sense if he's going to pretend like his actions are what stopped COVID.......in March/April.
April 18: Gunter for President, metmike for VP! At least we'll get the truth about the southern border crisis, improving COVID crisis and climate change fake crisis (-:
1. The NY Post is right biased.
2. One can tell in the way this article is written that there is a goal to make Biden look bad and the writer even uses slang:
I am dumbfounded. Are you going to argue that things are just swell at the border becaue, in spite of the plethora of facts and data, A RIGHT WING PUBLICATION presented undeniable data?
Tim,
No, I am not at all. As I said, I think he has done poorly with the border with it quite possibly being his worst of anything he has handled so far. I'm just pointing out as I often do the rightward bias of the sources of many of the articles that are cited at this forum caused by the majority of the most active here being on the right. And the writer did write it like an editorial imo.
For a situation that’s “normal”, there sure have been a lot of strange things going on.
I have followed this issue on infowars.com. I know, many of you despise this site… but when they back up their stuff with videos, I do pay attention.
If this bothers you, I can’t help you… you sure listen to the stories presented by CNN, et al. even though many of these stories from “unnamed sources” are debunked later on.
In Texas, huge numbers of illegal aliens are being dropped off at certain holding locations. The infowars crews have been trying to take movies of the conditions in these places, but they were rejected. Similar to the voting stations in 2020, the people inside placed coverings over their windows, so that nobody could look inside. This doesn’t prove anything, but obviously, the public is not supposed to see what’s going on there.
Then I saw Alex Jones confronting a man who was driving an SUV from one of those locations. A large number of children were stuffed into the loading area of the SUV (without seat belts). This is against the law, to say the least.
After this confrontation, the illegal aliens were transported by “taxi cabs”. Yet, when you call the number printed on the door of the taxis, you find out that this taxi company does not exist. So what is going on???
Then they filmed busses (with DHS markings?) delivering large numbers of illegal aliens to the private part of McAllister airport. There, they were loaded into an unmarked 737 and flown away. I didn’t even know that it is legal to fly an airplane without identification markings.
Al this proves nothing in detail, except that there is a huge people-moving project going on, and the public is not supposed to know about it. if they were transparent about it, they wouldn’t need all this secrecy.
The infowars crew says these incidents go on, day after day, and even at night.
In the meantime, the cartels are making millions every month, both by smuggling drugs, as well as humans.
As Alex Jones says, this is the biggest human smuggling operation in history. Maybe he is correct. Somebody is certainly organizing it. Who???
false alarm!!! The WH already backtracked the Biden comment. There is no crisis at the border. The crisis is in Central America
Maybe that' why Pres Karris is visiting Central America and not our borders.
"I'm just pointing out as I often do the rightward bias of the sources of many of the articles that are cited at this forum caused by the majority of the most active here being on the right. And the writer did write it like an editorial imo."
We appreciate you doing that frequently for us Larry.
Why not also provide us with information from your superior sources that gives us the correct or better/objective view on this.
Thanks in advance
In case you hadn't noticed, I often use CNN, NPR, NYT and others on the left (as well as some that are neutral) but sometimes they won't cover certain stories or certain legit elements in stories because of their bias.
Just like the far right doesn't cover certain legit elements of some stories because of their bias.
Both sides are welcome here, especially all of your opinions Larry.
And i wait for documentation on how right leaning sources are so biased. I have read reports that show {to the denial of libs of course} that right leaning sources are far more fair to both side of most any debate, conversation, or evening news report for that matter. Seems any young college student or cub reporter today is first taught how to slant stories and forget to report the who, why, when and how as they should and not much else. Now who can thank for that and it is sure not conservative thought or teachings.
mcfarm,
There actually is some strong evidence to support your suspicion.
There are several good, objective/thoughtful articles presented in this discussion, that included comprehensive research.
https://www.marketforum.com/forum/topic/42610/#42611
Here are the results from 1 study:
Here are the results of that study below.
Figure 2 gives a picture of how the broad liberal arts fields compare with respect to political affiliation. The professional field has the least extreme (but still unbalanced) D:R ratio while ideologically rooted interdisciplinary studies has the most extreme. The hard sciences are more balanced than the social sciences and the humanities.
If somebody doesn't believe this can be possible(the above page), I welcome their sources of legit research from authorities in this field to show otherwise and will consider that to offset these findings.
We are not here to push agenda but here to present both sides.
Always......ALWAYS....ALWAYS trying to find truth, which can be in the middle of both sides........or be at one of the extremes, even as both extremes ALWAYS claim that they are ALWAYS right.
One side is SOMETIMES completely wrong and the next time, it might be the other side that is completely wrong in this current biased, all or nothing political atmosphere.

Mc,
You’re a far righty telling the forum that you have read “reports” that show right leaning sources to be more fair to both sides. Ok, I buy that idea hook, line, and sinker. Wow, I never realized that! Thanks for that news abulletin (spoken with Mr. Tudball’s accent). ;) ;)
I guess WX missed the part where MM actually presented data in support of MC's assertion.
Usung raw numbers, such assertions have been made/supported that alleged "Right Wing" media outlets tend to be more "balanced" than their "left wing" counterparts. By raw numbers, I mean counting negative vs positive coverage of opposition. Not to say there was no bias indicated by the right, just a more comprehensive view.
These studies have been all over the place, for years, but I guess WX missing trhose too.
both sides. Ok, I buy that idea hook, line, and sinker. Wow, I never realized that! Thanks for that news abulletin (spoken with Mr. Tudball’s accent). ;) ;) ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' of course you didn't realize...you seem to be a product of today's education system combined with critical race theory so number 1 why would you realize and number 2 it somebody else's fault so just don't worry about. On the other hand you could educate your self on the real world, personal responsibility, and the thought that our way of life is always much better with less intrusion.
