U.S. #corn conditions drop 1 pt to 64% good/excellent versus trade expectation for +1 pt. #Soybeans steady at 60%. Spring #wheat plunges 7 pts to 20% good/excellent. Winter wheat harvest a third complete, a bit behind average.

Just 20% of U.S. spring #wheat is rated as good or excellent. There are only 8 weeks (all in 1988) since records began in 1986 where the good/exc portion was smaller. 39% poor/very poor is the 15th worse on record.

The situation for crops in the Dakotas is especially poignant as they are acreage swing states. If the U.S. planted a lot more corn and/or soy than reported in March, a good amount of those acres would have to come from the Dakotas....

South Dakota #soybeans have been rated worse than 26% good/excellent in only 12 weeks since records began in 1986: 2 weeks in 1988, 4 in 1993, 1 in 2006, 4 in 2012, 1 in 2017.

U.S. #corn conditions expose areas that have not received enough rain. South Dakota, parts of Minnesota and even Ohio are in need of moisture. Top producer Iowa jumps 4 pts to 60% good/excellent after plunging 21 pts in the prior two weeks.
