A CDC advisory panel Tuesday approved the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5 to 11, paving the way for an estimated 28 million young kids to get the jab starting as soon as this week.
The panel of doctors and public-health experts forming the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommended the move after the FDA cleared the immunization for emergency use in the age group Friday.
CDC Director Rochelle Walensky was expected to swiftly give final approval to the shot.
The vaccine is the first OK’d for children in the age group, delivering a third of the dosage given to adults in each of two shots doled out three weeks apart.
The Biden administration said Monday that millions of the kiddie shots were being prepped ahead of the CDC meeting in anticipation that the vaccine would be broadly recommended by the panel.
A nationwide push to get the vaccine into youngsters’ arm is expected to be in full swing by next week, with some shots to be ready in just days.
“We are not waiting on the operations and logistics,” the White House’s coronavirus coordinator, Jeff Zients, told reporters Monday.
The US has enough supply of the vaccine for all 28 million US children between the ages of 5 and 11, Zients said.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-disease expert, has said that pending regulatory hurdles, the Pfizer vaccine would be available for the young age group within the first two weeks of November.
It has already been approved for people ages 12 and up, while Modern and Johnson & Johnson’s vaccines have been authorized for those 18 and older.
Pfizer has said a study found its vaccine for the younger kids is nearly 91 percent effective at preventing symptomatic COVID-19 infections.
so we had "millions" of shots ready and does anyone think there was a chance of this "expert" panel turning it down? Talk about the cart before the horse only worse.

Are those organizations, including the studies they do sometimes corrupted? For sure they are...........some of the time. With the extreme level of scrutiny right now in this business, they are likely on their best scientific behavior because any flaws will be amplified to the maximum.
In fact, flaws will definitely be made up with cherry picking, using anomalous/outlier data like has been done for the past year over and over with anything that has to do with vaccines in an attempt to discredit them(to biased minds that want to believe the cherry picking).

The millions of shots being ready is likely because the extensive studies to support approval have been know for numerous months now and it was clear that the FDA and CDC would authorize based on the science.
If you already know that 2 +2 =4 and put that down on your math test, you don't have to wait for your math teacher to check it and pass it back to you. The science is............. the science, whether its evaluated by the FDA, CDC, vaccine makers or non political, objective/honest scientists.

Hundreds of children ages 5 to 11 have been hospitalized with COVID-19, and 94 have died this year, the FDA has reported. It was the eighth-leading cause of death in the age group over the past year, after accidents, cancer, malformations, murder, heart disease, chronic lower respiratory disease, and flu or pneumonia.
Children appear to be just as likely as adolescents and adults to catch COVID-19 and pass it on, health experts say. Though they seem to be less likely to become seriously ill, health experts urge parents not to take that chance.
“A third of our pediatric patients admitted to the hospital ended up in the ICU with COVID,” Spinner said. “So it’s not a benign disease for anybody. ... Kids need the vaccine.”
Even with a mild infection, children are still at risk for developing a dangerous immune overreaction called multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children. COVID-19 has led to more than 5,000 cases of the condition; the average age is 9.
“If we can get the overwhelming majority of those 28 million children vaccinated, that would play a major role in diminishing the spread of infection in the community,” Fauci said.
If the pandemic is contained, health experts say, children will have more freedom to enjoy a sense of pre-pandemic normalcy, like going back to school with minimal restrictions and safely attending family events.

NOT getting vaccinated is what takes away the most of your freedoms. Getting vaccinated actually GIVES YOU the most freedoms of anything you could have bestowed upon you related to COVID.

You know this because you were just in Canada. This is why I KNOW that you were vaccinated 2 times. You can't get in without 2 shots and 14 days after the 2nd shot. My wife's far right business partner(He's actually one of the smartest and most ethical people that I've ever known) found that out the hard way last month and missed the most important week of meetings of his life in Lindsey Ontario.
I mention this specific example because Fauci doesn't dictate the COVID rules for our good, scientific friends to the north. But if you follow our rules..........it opens the door for you to get into other countries......which are also following the science(not governments trying to steal your personal rights/freedoms away- that's absurd paranoid, conspiracy theory crap).
Getting vaccinated allows you to go to colleges. Attend many venues/events that require it(not because they are trying to steal your freedom-THEY have a right..........to protect the other people there).

CNN)Health care workers in New York have gone to the Supreme Court to challenge the state's Covid-19 vaccine mandate, arguing it violates their religious liberty rights.
This challenge is nearly identical to a recent case brought by health care workers in Maine. Last week, the court allowed Maine's mandate to go forward over the objection of three justices.
The latest dispute is brought by a nurse, Diana Bono, who lost her job because she has religious objections to the mandate, as well as two others who say they face the "imminent loss" of their employment and a group called We The Patriots USA Inc.
They are suing the state, arguing that while the mandate allows an exemption for those with medical objections, there is no exemption for people with religious objections.
The nurses object to the vaccines because of their distant relation to fetal cell lines developed from abortions in the 1970s and 1980s.
The Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith said last December in a note approved by Pope Francis that receiving the shot was morally permitted. "It is morally acceptable to receive Covid-19 vaccines that have used cell lines from aborted fetuses in their research and production process," the note said.
The nurses say they are "devout Christians" who "object to deriving any benefit -- no matter how remote -- from a process involving abortion."
New York's mandate requires all state health care workers to receive the vaccine, and allows an exemption only for those with medical exemptions.
A lawyer for the nurses said the mandate violates the First Amendment because it requires employers to terminate health care workers who "refuse a vaccine because of their religious beliefs" but offers an exemption to those workers who refuse based on a medical objection.
Last month, the Supreme Court denied a request to block the Maine rule, but the court's right wing -- Justices Neil Gorsuch, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito -- dissented and would have halted the mandate while the appeals process plays out.
Writing for his two conservative colleagues, Gorsuch pointed to the fact that "unlike comparable rules in most states," Maine's rule contained no exemption for those whose "sincerely held religious beliefs preclude them from accepting the vaccine."
He said that workers "who have served on the front line of a pandemic for the last 18 months, are now being fired and their practices shuttered," all for "adhering to their constitutionally protected religious beliefs"
He added: "Their plight is worthy of our attention."
metmike: As a Catholic, that is strongly against abortion, I'm embarrassed that people like this would claim that because 40 years ago that other vaccines(which have nothing to do with this one......ZERO/NADDA) were developed using aborted tissue is the reason for them to not get the COVID vaccine in 2021.

This would be like somebody insisting to put on sunscreen before getting in the shower to protect from sunburn.
That makes no sense. There is no sun in your shower and putting on sunscreen that gets washed off is retarded.
But it makes as much sense as objecting to the COVID vaccine because another vaccine 40 years ago was developed using the cells of an aborted fetus.

You have a great deal more trust in government and its bureaucracies than I do, Mike. After the last few years I have come to see more clearly how the world really works. This was probably the most lasting accomplishment of Donald Trump - he pulled back the curtain enough that anyone who wanted to look could see some of what was behind it. Unfortunately, knowing that Washington is probably the most corrupt city in the world - just due to the amount of money flowing through it - and that the US Senate is the center of corruption in Washington, does not make life mentally easier for me. And, yes, I did get the vaccine. I got it because it was necessary to get into Canada, and at my age I did not want to pass up an opportunity to swing flies for steelhead last summer in the Skeena River. Also, at age 76, I have lived past what I always assumed would be my final expiration date. (There was a time in the mid 60s when I moved to the SF Bay Area when I was quite confident that I would not make it past 30 - G). If it wasn't for those two things, I doubt that I would have gotten the shots.
I see, rightly or wrongly, the mandating of the shots as a power play of a Leftist government intent on taking over at the very least the western world. Global warming fizzled for them - they are still using it, but on its own, it was not what they had hoped. I have no idea how COVID got started, but the globalist elites were ready to use it. Again, I don't have the energy right now to go into this in enough detail to convince you, I'm sure. Again, you have a lot more faith in government than I do. I tend to look at it from a market perspective - what drives current policy? How does what we know about human nature through history suggest what is really driving events today?
Oh, note in that chart in the link - deaths are reported as "Deaths With COVID" - not deaths due to COVID. Can you really justify giving the shots to very young children?? I guess I see personal freedom in a different light than you do.
