Democracies have a better long-term survival track record than dictatorships because they can and do evolve to deal with new dangers. My favorite president is still Jimmy Carter for the sole reason that he was the only president during my lifetime that told the truth ALL the time.
I consider this one of the greatest speeches ever by an honest president telling people what they needed to hear and not what they wanted to hear.
