Hurricane Lane: Hawaii in/near its projected path

The center of hurricane Lane is projected to come close to the main Hawaiian islands between now and Saturday.  The gfs has it crossing them whereas the Euro and others are south, which is the most likely path as of now.  The slow movement could make this a major flood producer. This could be historic for them in a very bad way due to heavy rain more than anything as the winds are expected to weaken rapidly due to wind shear mainly. The good news is that like is the case in Bermuda, most of the main islands are elevated nicely just a little away from the coast. So that helps with staying out of storm surge, should it be significant. But then the mudslide threat is raised. Unlike Bermuda where they often do ok in hurricanes due to very strong building codes, Hawaii doesn't have that advantage. But again the expectation is for winds to weaken dramatically and also most models keep the center south.

In case there are any readers of this forum there, please take the proper precautions and stay safe!

Hurricane Land has weakened to just a cat. 1 storm, which is the lowest category on the Saffir Simpson 1-5 scale.

It's causing torrential rains in Hawaii.

Lane is in the Central Pacific. Why is it called a hurricane and not a typhoon?

Cyclones in the east and central Pacific are called hurricanes. Cyclones in the west Pacific are called typhoons. Lane is in the central Pacific.

Is Lane a hurricane? Or a typhoon? Or a cyclone?
