Why do ICE agents get paid during the partial government shutdown, but not TSA?

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/why-do-ice-agents-get-paid-during-the-partial-government-shutdown-but-not-tsa

Both parties agreed to fund the rest of the government while they sought a Department of Homeland Security funding compromise.

With negotiations dragging, hundreds of TSA agents have quit during the partial shutdown and thousands of others have called out of work.

Why is ICE funded but not TSA?

Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act is paying ICE agents.

Trump's signature 2025 tax and spending law included about $75 billion for ICE over four years, including $45 billion for new immigration detention beds and $30 billion to hire 10,000 ICE employees, upgrade facilities and more.

WATCH: Long lines, frustrations grow at airports as DHS shutdown strains TSA staffing

TSA remains without funding. During government shutdowns, employees are not paid, including those deemed essential who are still required to report to work. About 95% of TSA's 60,000 employees are considered essential workers.

Donald Trump ordered the Rs to not compromise and to NOT allow funding of the TSA.

As it has been since Donald Trump has been elected,  there is no separation of powers that the Constitution calls for. It's Donald Trump telling the majority R in Congress what to do.

That will change in November with the massive blue wave!

US Senate passes funding package for Homeland Security that excludes ICE

House of Representatives still needs to act before funded agencies such as airport security can reopen, CNN reports

Not coincidentally, it's because Donald Trump gave "permission" to the Rs to do this.

And the reason is that Donald Trump sees his world crumbling from self inflicted damage. His stock market is crashing. Gas prices going thru the roof. Americans are furious with him and holding it against the R party, including every pole indicating that we blame the R party for this insane shutdown that never should have happened.

And him blocking the temporary funding of the TSA agents that he could have done at any points but was holding them hostage because he is in love with the ICE that currently exists.

DHS shutdown breakthrough comes at cost for Republicans as funding fights nears end

This has been another huge black eye to Americans that proves how broken our political system is.

Just looking at how dysfunctional its been since an unhinged lunatic took control of it just over a year ago, wrecking our country, destroying long lived relationships with our allies and behaving as a psychopath with his R party minions actually enabling and supporting all of it is the quintessential example.

This is not based on belonging to a political party. It's just the objective, authentic truth!!!

Funding deal collapses. Trump caused this by telling Mike Johnson and the Rs to NOT accept the deal.

He wants to fund the TSA and look good, while forcing his puppets in Congress, #1 puppet, speaker Mike Johnson to continue to fight for his failed ICE agenda.

Our leader is a diabolical psychopath and morally bankrupt, self serving human being suffering from progressive dementia.

That was an objective, open minded and informed description from an independent, scientist practicing the scientific method that doesn't belong to either party.

DHS shutdown drags on after House passes 'dead on arrival' bill

With lawmakers in Congress yet to abandon their scheduled recesses, the crisis will continue, though its impact could be lessened after President Trump signed an order paying TSA workers.

Too funny how Donald Trump threw Mike Johnson and the Rs in the House under the bus.

The majority of Americans are behind the Ds on this.

Originally, Donald Trump refused to use funds to pay the TSA agents because he thought public outrage would mostly be against the Ds.

When more of it went towards the Rs than Ds, he came up with a new plan. Fund the TSA agents as he could have done weeks ago and tell Mike Johnson to NOT agree with the deal that the Senate did and the majority of Americans support.

Trump looks good. Rs in the House look bad, especially their speaker.

There is no way the Rs in both the House and Senate are not keenly aware of the catastrophic damage that Donald Trump is doing to their party.

Behind closed doors, they must privately be discussing that point at which they should use Article 25 to remove Donald Trump.

I doubt that will happen but THEY KNOW that the first thing the Ds do after they win the House is to start the impeachment investigation and that investigation will expose everything they are trying to cover up BIG TIME.

The ONLY way to avoid that is with the 25th Amendment before the Ds get the opportunity to expose their jugular.

That would quickly stop the bleeding and start the healing.

This is only if the Rs are smart. Since Donald Trump started his 2nd term, they have rarely been smart but after being beat over the head and bloodied worse and worse, at some point, one would think they would have some sense beat into them and learn something.

yes and that awful Trump also ask congress to skip their paid 2 week vacation. How could he? Does he not know how hard those congress people work  to pass urgent bills like the one with millions of our tax dollars to pay sexual abuse victims of those very same over paid lazy do nothings.

mcfarm,

All he needs to do is stop telling the Rs in the House to stop blocking this or really, the Rs need to finally learn their lesson and appreciate that being owned by Donald Trump is going TO BE THEIR DEMISE with the writing clearly written on the November 2026 election wall.

This is what the betting market thinks:

I listened to Mike Johnson, R leader of the House. He described the polar opposite of what really happened here.

He claims that this is another huge R victory. The Rs got everything they wanted again and the Ds caved and he insisted that the Ds could have just agreed with his party 2 months ago and avoided all of this but instead, the Ds wanted to shutdown the government to obstruct the Rs from protesting America and Americans.

Fact check: It was the Rs that finally caved and did NOT get their absurd demand for additional ICE funding that AMERICANS DON"T WANT THEM TO HAVE because of the ICE's blatant abuse of human beings that we all witnessed recently.

So what suddenly changed to cause the Rs in the House to cave?

Donald Trump told them to!!!

Trump budget officials urge House Republicans to concede in DHS standoff

                                                   Updated

                                             https://www.kten.com/news/politics/trump-budget-officials-urge-house-republicans-to-concede-in-dhs-standoff/article_3435e308-4654-508b-acab-57d86996269e.html

(CNN) — President Donald Trump’s budget office sent a memo to Capitol Hill on Tuesday evening urging House Republicans to agree to partly reopen the Department of Homeland Security – even without new cash for immigration enforcement.

The existence of the memo, which was confirmed by a person familiar with its contents, could amount to a major development in the monthslong impasse around DHS funding.

Trump officials are now telling House Republicans to accept a compromise measure from the Senate, which does not include money for ICE or border patrol, to ensure that workers do not go unpaid. Many House Republicans have so far refused to pass any DHS funding without simultaneously approving another funding bill for ICE.
