Hegseth defends Iran war's mission, costs in first testimony since conflict began

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/hegseth-defends-iran-wars-mission-costs-in-first-testimony-since-conflict-began/ar-AA220wYv?ocid=BingNewsSerp

"Two months in, on an existential fight for the safety of the American people, Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb, we are proud of this undertaking," Hegseth said in his opening remarks before the House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday.

This is big fat LIE and the "go to" lie which this administration has decided to use as their main propaganda message to justify their unprovoked, completely unjustified war.

Read the TRUTH using empirical, authentic facts here:

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, in his first appearance before Congress since the Iran war started, downplayed the length of the war and said the biggest "adversary" the U.S. faces at this point in the war is the "reckless, feckless and defeatist words of congressional Democrats and some Republicans."

++++++++++++++

Actually, it's the 180 degree diametrically opposed polar opposite of this. People like me speaking up, do so because WE CARE about America, Americans and the rest of the world. WE CARE about the American military that Donald Trump puts in harms way for his agenda(to serve Netanyahu/Israel).

I think about the tremendously negative mindset and psychological damage being done to our people in the military  who have to deal with the consequences of fighting in a war. Killing innocent people for powerful psychopaths because they pledged allegiance and dedication to a country that is led by a psychopath who is USING THEM for an endeavor that is very unpopular in the United States and EXTRAORDINARILY unpopular around the world with ZERO NATO or other allies joining us. Our military KNOWS that the vast majority of Americans do NOT support this war and the entire world(outside of Israel) really, REALLY is against this war.

They know this war is causing the worst global energy crisis in history.

MAKING THEM do this anyways is supporting our military?

Pretending that God is on our side and using religion to justify this war?

This unqualified, servant to Donald Trump that got the job by being a weekend anchor at Fox News(seriously that was why he was appointed)  that is profoundly abusing our wonderful men and women in the military, taking advantage of their loyalty, patriotic, life risking dedication to serving the United States of America is off the charts offensive to me!

++++++++++++++++

Pete Hegseth, you are a very offensive man to me. You have no understanding of what it means to be a soldier or to serve our country. You have no empathy for the soldiers you lead or for human beings. How do you think the men/women responsible for bombing the girls school in Iran and killing over 100 innocent people feel? Those were young children with the rest of their lives ahead of them.............snuffed out for NO GOOD REASON, along with thousands of other innocent people that our military killed because they were ordered to do it.

For what? A completely made up reason about nuclear weapons buried deeply underground!

These are not all ROBOTS with no emotions that don't care about other INNOCENT human beings that they kill for a made up reason.

The uncounted casualties of war: suicide in combat veterans

https://academic.oup.com/qjmed/article/117/3/163/7320020

This is on you, Pete Hegseth. Blindly serving a psychopath, who is the most powerful man in the world that appointed you because you pledged allegiance to him, Donald Trump. Constantly adulating Donald Trump as if he's your God and even worse, using (FAKE) religion to justify your war while defiling all the basic principles of that religion in doing it.

War propaganda is nothing new but this one is over the top with lies that are supposed to justify the worst energy crisis in history.

The entire world knows this is complete BS........except for the Rs in the United States and Israel(that actually does benefit from this war).

The Basic Principles of War Propaganda

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Basic_Principles_of_War_Propaganda

The basic principles of war propaganda (Principes élémentaires de propagande de guerre) is a monograph by Anne Morelli published in 2001. It has not been translated into English. The subtitle recommends its "usability in case of cold, hot or lukewarm war" (Utilisables en cas de guerre froide, chaude ou tiède).

The ten "commandments" of propaganda which Anne Morelli elaborates in this work are, above all, an analytical framework for pedagogical purposes and for media analysis. Morelli does not want to take sides or defend "dictators", but show the regularity of use of the ten principles in the media and in society:

1. We don't want war, we are only defending ourselves!

2. Our adversary is solely responsible for this war!

3. Our adversary's leader is inherently evil and resembles the devil

4. We are defending a noble cause, not our particular interests!

5. The enemy is purposefully committing atrocities; if we are making mistakes this happens without intention

6. The enemy makes use of illegal weapons

7. We suffer few losses, the enemy's losses are considerable

8. Recognized intellectuals and artists support our cause

9. Our cause is sacred

10. Whoever casts doubt on our propaganda helps the enemy and is a traitor

++++++++++++++

You will find the rest of that thread an interesting read too when I was speaking out...............against THE D PARTY for their corruption!

Whatever party gets control ABUSES THAT POWER for their agenda!!!! When so many of them are morally bankrupt people (much more Rs) what do we expect???

Been watching many more moments of Hegseth's testimony.

OMG, this is like a Pam Bondi's clone.

Extremely defensive and combative. Constant adulation of Donald, claiming that any criticism is anti American and Trump Derangement Syndrome and telling lie after lie, contradiction after contradiction and responding to questions with regurgitated propaganda, not with answers.

Claiming at times that this war was all about an imminent threat of nuclear weapons and we had no choice but to attack, then later telling us how the nuclear threat was obliterated by our great military last June with all the nuclear enriched uranium deeply buried under that ground.

Then responding that Iran still has the DESIRE to develop nuclear weapons and that's really what the war was about

That is just so DUMB and DISHONEST. According to Hegseth, we had to bomb Iran, even though their nuclear material was buried deeply in the ground and our Intelligence department, Tulsi Gabbard, testified that they have done ZERO to develop nuclear weapons in the past year and Iran in February had agreed to Donald Trumps demands to draw down the enriched uranium, the real world  telling us clearly,  that no, they were NOT intent on developing nuclear weapons.

Pete Hegseth is a lightweight, MAGA cheerleader that is embarrassing the United States in this key position that he's clearly unqualified to lead. Donald Trump appointed him based on liking his pro Trump propaganda while Hegseth was a Fox News weekend anchor.

Typing that last sentence sounds crazy but it's the reality with Donald Trump!

The Pentagon telling us that the war to this point has only cost us $25 billion is also a joke. It's likely closer to double that.

Hey Mike,

I’m not going to defend severely under qualified Hegseth. And he has been defensive and combative as you noted. However, I think Bondi was worse in that she had a notably nastier and more disrespectful tone than Hegseth. He didn’t seem so nasty imho in comparison. She was sooooooooo horrible that it made him look halfway decent <G>. Also, I thought FBI director Patel was similarly quite nasty.

 What do you think?

Yes, I agree with that assessment too, Larry and thanks for the correction!

In thinking back to Bondi, she was waaaaay worse than Hegseth in hatefully scolding people for not adulating Donald Trump and falling in line with his agenda.

Hegseth does have his moments of being pleasant and cooperative.  I was watching just sound bites of him at his worst yesterday from CNN and not the overall testimony which gave me only his worst moments.

Looking at more of his testimony shows your point.

Hegseth claims the short length of time means it's NOT a quagmire and compares it to the Iraq war and Afghantistan wars(as if those were the wars we should try to emulate).

In those wars, our enemy had no ability to fight back the way that Iran is by closing the Strait of Hormuz(which was an obvious tactic that any military leader should have seen BEFORE the attack).

Creating the greatest global energy crisis in history in a month(now at 2 months) makes the TIME FRAME comparison of those wars absurd.

It would be like comparing total rainfall rates. If we get 50 inches/year here, which is 500 inches in 10 years, it would make no sense to say that we only got 50 inches of rain the past 2 months because Evansville got 500 inches of rain between 2000 and 2010 and this is only 10% of those rainfall totals.

During those 10 years, the rains were SPREAD OUT.

During the other wars the damage was SPREAD OUT at a sustainable rate and gradually mounted.

The world can't afford to have 20% of it's global supply of crude cut off for more than a few days without serious damage. After a month, it's totally unsustainable damage without dire consequences to every country's' economy.

We are at 2 months and each day is worse than the previous day. Even if it were resolved tomorrow, getting back  to where things were will take until 2027.

And we accomplished nothing except to destroy much of Iran's ability to send missiles at Israel.

No regime change. Worsening the nuclear weapons situation(we had agreements from Obama, then on the verge of agreements in June 2025 and February 2026 that Netanyahu sabotaged).

And the damage to the entire world is the worst from a war since WW2.........in just 2 months!!!

One could make the case that the Vietnam war took many more brave American soldier lives, many of them drafted against their will. That's just 1 metric.

If we are trying to be honest about THIS war, we don't take the worst metric of the worst war and compare it to one of the better metrics of this war and claim that makes this a good war.

++++++++++

In watching more of Hegseth today, I agree even more with your assessment, Larry. He frequently lies with a smile and is at times pleasant and even cooperative. He says tons of really dumb things but his personality is much better than Bondi.

He is clearly sincere and we have to remember that he was a professional tv anchor at Fox and got that job by having solid communication and likeability skills.

Joe Scarborough Mocks Pete Hegseth’s 'Petulant' Attitude At Hearing With Savage New Term

The “Morning Joe” host said Hegseth had the “worst performance on Capitol Hill, I think, certainly, I’ve ever seen before the Armed Services Committee.”

But instead, Scarborough said, we got Hegseth, who “decided to go full Bondi.”

“That was full Bondi,” co-host Mika Brzezinski echoed.

“I think we all know this,” Scarborough said. “You never go full Bondi, right? You never go full Bondi. It never works. And he went full Bondi, man. You don’t go full Bondi.”

I still say that what I saw was a less disrespectful version of Bondi. But I didn’t see the entire thing. I thought Kash Patel was more full Bondi. As a matter of fact, I think “full Kash” and “full Bondi” are largely interchangeable. <G>

I strongly agree with you, Larry! Even more so after watching more clips today.

I didn't post that to bolster my initial comment but mainly because I thought it was funny for him to repeat what I thought at first after seeing just the worst clips of Hegseth.

Bondi and Patel, like you said were in a league of their own for worst demeanors in history.

All 3 are very unqualified, blatantly lying, nonsense spewing Donald Trump cheerleaders

Hegseth and Trump don’t know who they’re messing with regard to the great American, Senator Kelly. I’ve become a great fan of his since he did that ad pushing for the military and intelligence officials to not obey illegal orders, which is Constitutionally protected. He’s a fighter and he won’t stop! Keep in mind that I’m not a Dem. I’m independent of any party as Mike knows.

Hegseth needs to take a hike.

Happy Easter!

The US and Israel are running out of high end weapons, using years worth in just a month at a massive cost to US taxpayer's at an unsustainable pace.

This has left the US extremely vulnerable to defend itself or allies in the event of an actual justified war or attack.
