There is nothing remotely suggesting that Mamdani opposes practicing religion as he is upfront in practicing his own religion as the first MAJOR city mayor as a Muslim. Dearborn, MI was actually the first city to elect an American Muslim as mayor in 2021(Abdullah Hammoud) who was re elected in 2025.
