Glacier collapse.
Up to 500 killed. Brutal.

They are still investigating and assessing.

I just posted this at a wx BB. Melting land based ice is one of the main things that shows that CC/GW clearly has a very bad side. I’ve always been consistent on this. What really got to me here is still another highly questionable post from Chris Martz:
Quote from Wxfollower:
“Chris Martz posted this on the day of the Nepal flooding disaster. I’m not posting this because of agreement with him since I vehemently disagree. The one thing I’ve been most concerned about regarding CC/GW is what to me has to be an obvious direct result from it, melting of ice and the resultant negative consequences.
How can GW not be a cause or contribution to melting ice? I feel I’m open minded about what CC/GW clearly does or doesn’t cause (an example being global wildfire acreage burnt that I’ve recently been posting about) as well as the idea that there are some significant positive results from it (like fewer hunger related deaths resulting from increased world food supply as well as fewer deaths related to GW since cold has killed many more than heat). Some of my posts do address things like that. Also, I’ve recently even posted about the coldest 80N+ late May through most of the summer since at least 1958 per DMS stats possibly contributing to less melting of Arctic ice area this summer vs recent years. But in the case of melted ice in general, I don’t get the doubt about CC causing it like Chris Martz implies:”

This is what Martz said in this X post:
“Whenever you hear a news reporter or “scientist” claim that climate change caused or contributed to something, you are being misinformed. Change, by definition, is an outcome. It is not a cause. It not a physical force that causes things to happen. It is not a fuel. It is not an accelerant either. There are many things that can amount to evidence of ‘climate change’. But ‘climate change’ itself does not fuel or cause extreme events.”
Agree, Larry!
This is pretty no brainer with regards to global warming = melting ice from man made climate change/global warming as a result of CO2 emissions that come from burning fossil fuels.

Unfortunately, human confirmation/cognitive bias has a strong impact on most humans...even smart scientists.
Instead of practicing the Scientific Method, which compels the scientist to fact check THEMSELVES and question THEIR POSITION, we/they interpret information in a way that defends what they/we want to believe.
Cognitive biases

An honest scientist doesn‘t Take 1 side of a scientific position that has 2 very compelling sides.
Taking 1 side is what defines politics, unfortunately.
But this isn’t 1 sided as both sides want us to think.
THE LAW OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS and key role of massively beneficial CO2 that is keeping billions of humans from starving is downplayed the most.
H0w often is that mentioned in discussions on heat waves, floods, melting ice and wildfires WHICH ARE REALLY HAPPENING?
How can increasing CO2 from burning fossil fuels be killing the planet when they greened up the planet by 28% the past 100+ years.

In addition, there's a positive feedback from CO2 warming increasing the amount of H2O in the atmosphere(although clouds from H2O are a huge unknown impact-high clouds add to warming-low clouds subtract from blocking UV radiation):

This guy has a different very credible take on this being a "bedrock failure" and the glacier just went along for the ride.

Thanks, Mike!
I’ve also been reading about the theory about the main cause of this being bedrock failure with the glacier collapsing mainly because of that. Whereas CC could easily still have played some role, there are currently more doubts in my mind than earlier as regards whether it played a large role based on what I’ve been reading today.
In summary, much more time is likely needed to attempt to figure out the actually cause(s) of this complex disaster. That’s the safest approach to take now. Even if CC didn’t play much of a role in this, that in itself doesn’t minimize the effect of it on melting ice in general due to GW.
For sure, Larry!
The thawing permafrost from global warming could have been a huge failure of the bedrock too.
Regardless, we have melting glaciers EVERYWHERE there are glaciers on the planet that don't result in events like this! Something unique happened here. Agree that intense investigating needs to continue!
