As a kid, we lived in the Detroit MI area and would take 2 week vacations "up north". Usually renting a cottage on Lake Huron or Lake Michigan.
On the way back, we(6 kids and parents) would stop in Frankenmouth, have chicken at the Bavarian Inn, then mom would shop for hours at Bronner's Christmas Store. We had enough Christmas ornaments... many of them, expensive unique ornaments to load up 3 or 4 trees by the time I was out of high school. There were so many ornaments on our tree, that you could hardly see the branches.
My wife kept up one of the traditions regarding this. We have individual, special, huge Christmas ornaments for each person in the family with their name on it. Mine says" Mike" of course and my wife has one "Debbie". My mom got them for us for Christmas after we were first married, along with our, now 41 year old daughter, Shani. Then our 2 sons, Dweezil and Moon Unit...............wait a sec, those are Frank Zappa's kids. Our's are Quinn-31 and Mac-28.
My wife continued to have new ones shipped to our house after each of our 3 grand child were born.
Closest I ever came to it was when my sister took me to Macy's to see Santa.
You are hilarous Carl..............please never leave.
Sorry , Mike, but I have an appointment in Samarra.
