Black Sunday refers to a particularly severe dust storm that occurred on April 14, 1935, as part of the Dust Bowl.[1] It was one of the worst dust storms in American history and it caused immense economic and agricultural damage.[2] It is estimated to have displaced 300 million tons of topsoil from the prairie area in the US.
The destruction caused by the dust storms, and especially by the storm on Black Sunday, killed multiple people[citation needed] and caused hundreds of thousands of people to relocate[6]. Poor migrants from the American Southwest (known as "Okies" - though only about 20 percent were from Oklahoma) flooded California, overtaxing the state's health and employment infrastructure.[7]
During the 1930s, many residents of the Dust Bowl kept accounts and journals of their lives and of the storms that hit their areas. Collections of accounts of the dust storms during the 1930s have been compiled over the years and are now available in book collections and online.

The decade of the 1930's was a REAL climate crisis! The last 40 years of climate on this planet has been the best for life in the last 1,000 years..............as we head into a climate optimum...........similar to the one just over 5,000 years ago, called the Holocene Climate Optimum.

From a quarter to half of Earth’s vegetated lands has shown significant greening over the last 35 years largely due to rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, according to a new study published in the journal Nature Climate Change on April 25.
An international team of 32 authors from 24 institutions in eight countries led the effort, which involved using satellite data from NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer instruments to help determine the leaf area index, or amount of leaf cover, over the planet’s vegetated regions. The greening represents an increase in leaves on plants and trees equivalent in area to two times the continental United States.

Temperature variations during the Holocene from a collection of different reconstructions and their average. The most recent period is on the right, but the recent warming is only seen in the inset.
The Holocene Climate Optimum warm event consisted of increases of up to 4 °C near the North Pole (in one study, winter warming of 3 to 9 °C and summer of 2 to 6 °C in northern central Siberia)
