Anti-Semitism: The Current Day Issue

Sharp increase in violent anti-semitic acts

Anti-Semitism (hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group) is rising around the globe. In some quarters of the world, the levels of Jewish hatred are reaching the pre-Holocaust intensity of the 1930’s. In America, there is a growing tide of anti-Semitism and it is especially evident on college campuses, both secular and Christian. In 2016, 1,266 anti-Semitic incidents were recorded across the United States, a 34% year-over-year increase from 2015. And 2017 saw a whopping 86% increase in the first 3 months.

  1. When the Middle East was divided into nation-states after World War I, Israel was given legal borders during the San Remo Conference in April 1922. Before this conference, not a single Arab or Jewish independent state existed. The entire territory was controlled by the Ottoman Empire for hundreds of years and then by the British Empire. So, 22 Arab states and one Jewish state (Israel) were legally established as a result of the San Remo conference, during which the Allied powers determined legal boundaries. The fact is that Israel has the same legal right to her land as do the Arab states in the region.
  2. The second fact that gets lost in the argument is the long history of terror attacks against the Jewish people within Israel. This has forced Israel to build security walls to prevent suicide bombers from murdering innocent Jewish civilians. The walls have not been built to oppress people but to protect the innocent.

Was it Netanyahu who said "If the Arabs laid down their weapons, there would be no war. If the Israelis laid down their weapons, there would be no Israel"

Not correct. There was no Jewish state until 1947, when Israel was partitioned from Palestine by the UN, with the western powers again establishing the "legal" boundaries.
