While most animals reproduce until they die, humans have evolved to survive long after the ability to reproduce. Scientists believe this has helped ensure the success of a woman’s family.

Hormone changes are a natural part of aging. Unlike the more dramatic reproductive hormone plunge that occurs in women during menopause, however, sex hormone changes in men occur gradually.

In women, ovulation ends and hormone production plummets during a relatively short period of time. In men, production of testosterone and other hormones declines over a period of many years and the consequences aren't necessarily clear.

And men can still father children for decades after women no longer can.

A woman can last give birth in her 40's and will likely be there to raise the child to adulthood.

A man can make a baby well after that(with his much younger wife).

A woman giving birth in her 80's would not be a good scene and obviously, some outside assistance would be needed to raise the child to adulthood.

It looks like President Trump was 59 years old when his son Barron was born, just a few years older for Trump and he could have been on the oldest fathers list, which goes down to 65 year old men.

... the oldest fathers list, which goes down to 65 year old men.

I'd like to try to update that number, and while I've learned to accept rejection, I can't take the lughter.

I think that its not whether most men 70+ can father a child as much as how many can have partners young enough to bear children.

At 63 years old, if anything ever happened to my wife, that would be it for "romance" for me I believe.  Nobody could ever come close to matching her and I would be content to stay single I think.

However, the thought of hooking up with somebody my daughters age after losing her, though it might make for some nice dreams during sleep, seems strange.

Not to judge others that are comfortable in that position.
