Help them take action. If someone in grief seems to be lost and doesn’t know what to do, help them do something. It could be making funeral arrangements, it could be making a doctor’s appointment, it could be making phone calls. Don’t do it all yourself — let them take action too, because it helps in the healing process.
I know a few people who are alone and are quite stubborn or independant. I try to subtly ensure them they have a "helping hand" insurance policy simply by keeping in touch,letting them know im close by and occasionally getting a simple chore done for them.Just do the simple chore without asking and tough nuts if they dont like it-makes for more conversation at least.
